President Donald Trump recently cracked down on work requirements with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by means of the “Big Beautiful Bill.” The policy drastically expanded work requirements for those who want to continue receiving food stamps. But Nelson Scott, a 38-year-old able-bodied man from Tennessee, called the changes “some bulls**t” in a viral interview last month with WZTV. Scott is “38, not disabled, doesn’t have any kids, doesn’t go to school, and doesn’t have a job,” all of which work against him with respect to eligibility, according to WZTV. He was previously receiving $292 per month to pay for groceries.

It is difficult for a felon to enter the workforce. There is stigma, there is fear, and very likely a lack of contemporary job skills. People like this man have to re-enter at the lowest rungs of manual labor and work their way up. Will he starve? Given the free pantry food supplies in most urban areas…he should not go hunger with just a modicum of exertion. There is no human right to take the labors of another for yourself. Food stamps were meant to be a temporary relief, not a lifetime style.

It follows the standard pattern of helping people. First they are grateful. Then they start to rely on it. Then they come to expect it. Finally they hate you when it stops. Might as well save some money and effort not help in the first place, since they are going to hate you anyway.

I remember our " food stamps " they came in a cardboard container marked USDA ..cheese .,powdered milk and eggs. I imagine mom and dad were very happy when " things picked up '' and they could get back to " working steady " . If you have heard those sayings you probably are familiar with life in Appalachia .. At the risk of sounding like a old coot I tell my kids and grand kids ..." you got it made " I am all for a helping hand to get over the hump but get some damn self respect and off my back . "

The guy needs to find a job. There are government programs for that too. Almost nobody wants to hire an excon. The lesson learned here is STAY OUT OF TROUBLE! Finding a job can be hard. People will pass over your resume for any excuse. I discovered I could never say to any employer that I had quit a previous job. In the end, I would tell employers I went back to school or decided to find a full-time job. All statements were true. In my early twenties, I found a job through the Job Partnership Training Act. Might have been the first person in the county to pass through the program. Had it for 18 months. Paid barely above minimum wage. Definitely not a career choice. Lived at home and saved my money. Eventually went back to college and got a degree which led to a good paying job that I had for 26 years.

Several years ago, we had to get a new roof. The owner of the company only hired veterans and ex-cons. They did a great job. When our oldest son was 10yrs old he made money by going around the neighborhood mowing grass and washing cars. When he was 12, he got a paper route and people still come up and tell us he was the best paperboy they ever had. Every now and then, there's man who comes around and washes windows, inside and out. All he asks for is water, otherwise he has everything he needs and he does a great job. I only have him wash outside. So, if this guy wanted to he could make money.

Maybe we should bring back the old WPA program (Work Progress Administration) from the FDR years. Back in my trout fishing days, you could see the remains of the the old WPA camp. The workers were hired to build a road over the mountain. Able bodied men who couldn't find a job in the tail of the depression. Not their fault. Jobs were scarce but I was told by one old timer that it was hard work but somehow satisfying since it wasn't pure charity. In the end, the state got a good road in the Chattahoochee National Forest with access to a lake and the trout stream. Still being used every day. Nowadays, there is a large group of people who would be outraged if they had to work for their SNAP cards and housing and the Democrats would call working for your keep as cruel and unusual punishment. The left never understands or admits that every wasted dollar could be used for our truly needy. There are millions of decent people trying to get by on a small SS check. Get all the fraud and slackers out of that system and others and you could probably double those poor, elderly peoples' checks.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced Monday that five members of a pro-Palestinian extremist group had been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to carry out coordinated bombings in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. The “credible, imminent terrorist threat” to five locations in Los Angeles came from radical members of an offshoot of the Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF), Patel claimed in an X post. Four of the suspects were collared in Lucerne Valley in the Mojave Desert, where the extremists allegedly were testing improvised explosives. A fifth was apprehended in New Orleans while planning a separate attack, according to the FBI boss. Charges have yet to be announced.

Yet as the Trump administration continues to settle back in power, Mayorkas has barely been mentioned: When was the last time you heard his name mentioned? We defer to others because of their positions and to a lesser degree, their accomplishments. We respect others because of who they are, because they’ve proved themselves worthy of our respect regardless of their positions of authority.
