Employers across the U.S. added 119,000 jobs in September, marking a pickup after previous employment data had shown a slowdown in hiring. The report marks the first official job tally since the government shutdown ended last week, ending a six-week blackout on labor data. The numbers Economists had forecast payroll gains of 50,000 jobs in September, according to a poll by FactSet. The unemployment rate rose 4.4% in September, up from 4.3% in August and the highest level since Oct. 2021. With robust job growth in September

Hopefully the October shutdown will result in a rise as the private sector employment numbers who hired ex-government non-essential employees (I won't call them workers). But it will likely make the un-employment number increase instead

More people getting jobs always means bad news for the stock market. Wall Street loves high unemployment numbers.

What would be most helpful, when hiring for jobs in the US, if employers would hire telephone operators who actually have English as a first language. Only two businesses that I speak with regularly on the phone have the same operator as when last I called them--one of those is the doctor's office.

And yet the stock market went into the red (even with the good news from NVIDIA on its earnings). On Maria Bartiromo's show this am, she interviewed Judy Shelton* (former nominee to Fed Board under Trump 45) who said that the stock market is too focused on the Federal Reserve as although the job numbers beat expectation, investors think that the Fed won't make a rate cut in December. That the Fed would rather pay banks to sit on their money and not make loans to small businesses, etc and actually help the economy and the average person as they're obsessed with inflation. (I paraphrase). * https://www.independent.org/person/judy-l-shelton/

Q2 growth is 3.9%. Q3 looks like 4.2%. If there was any other person than Trump in the Oval Office this would be constantly drummed out from the rooftops. But what we get is crickets.

House Democratic leaders, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, contacted the U.S. Capitol Police and the House sergeant-at-arms to request protection for four representatives who appeared in a video message encouraging military troops to defy orders from their superiors that they deem illegal. Reps. Chris Deluzio (PA-17), Chrissy Houlahan (PA-6), Maggie Goodlander (NH-2), and Jason Crow (CO-6), along with Sens. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), tried agitating some troops and intelligence officials into potentially illegal actions of their own by defying orders they personally interpret as unlawful. It was a startling effort. The message was clear. They laid it out quite clearly, referencing "this administration" and how it

The Biden Justice Department secretly obtained more than two years worth of Representative Jim Jordan’s (R., Ohio) phone records during its sweeping investigation into the role President Donald Trump played in the Capitol riot. Without his knowledge, the Biden administration targeted Jordan’s phone records weeks after the Biden administration launched its “Arctic Frost” investigation, according to records Jordan released Thursday night as part of his investigation into the role Verizon and AT&T played in “Arctic Frost.”

Male inmates at an all-female prison in Fort Worth, Texas, are temporarily restricted from entering or using female-only private areas, a judge decided this week. It is the first time a federal court has ruled that male inmates must be sex-segregated in women’s prisons. The Federal Medical Center, Carswell is a formerly women-only prison in Texas that currently houses several men who identify as women. FMC Carswell recently housed dozens of people who identify as trans or intersex, according to a federal report. Female inmates have for years petitioned the state to separate trans-identifying men from women’s private spaces.

The initial report shows that the taxi and takeoff roll were uneventful. The Flight Data Recorder contained about 63 hours of data that spanned 24 flights, including the crash. Initial investigation revealed that the left engine and left pylon detached during takeoff.

With a little less than a year to go before the 2026 midterm elections, a Marist Poll shows Democrats leading Republicans by a massive +14 points in the generic ballot. “Democrats currently have a 14-point lead against the Republicans among registered voters nationally on the 2026 generic congressional ballot question,” writes Marist. “This has changed considerably. Since 2022, voters have been divided about which party’s candidate they would support.” This, even though those polled “place most of the blame for the shutdown on congressional Democrats.” Still, “six in ten [blame] either the President or the GOP in Congress.”

Yesterday we learned that a three judge panel had ruled 2-1 that Texas would not be allowed to use newly drawn maps in the midterm elections. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey V. Brown, who is a Trump appointee, joined U.S. District Judge David Guaderrama, an Obama appointee, to demand the state return to its previously drawn maps. The core of their ruling was that the goal of the redistricting was not partisan political advantage, but racial gerrymandering. The state had argued that the entire redistricting process was based on a partisan goal, which the U.S. Supreme Court has previously said courts cannot intervene to prevent. But the plaintiffs pointed to a letter

Few stories grabbed national attention quite like the Cracker Barrel rebrand did this year. Even amid endless high-profile developments in Washington, the Cracker Barrel rebrand stood out as offensive to Americans everywhere. Like Bud Light's partnership with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, Cracker Barrel's new look felt like an attack on an American institution from an out-of-touch C-suite that bought into the leftist idea of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The backlash was so severe that the company publicly slammed the brakes on their modern makeover and promised Americans they weren't changing a thing.

ABC News might soon find itself staring down another expensive defamation lawsuit from President Trump, and honestly, it wouldn't come as a shock. On a recent episode of The View, Joy Behar confidently claimed that it was "obvious" Trump was a pedophile connected with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, implicating him in Epstein’s crimes. This wild accusation came without a shred of evidence tying Trump to Epstein’s criminal activities. In fact, Trump is arguably one of the few prominent figures who did the right thing and severed ties with Epstein years ago, unlike many Democrats who have since been ensnared in the fallout. Despite the Democrats’ best efforts, the recent dump

What got a lot of talk on social media about was who was there - and who wasn't. Starting with the "who wasn't," President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance were not invited. Cheney and his daughter were big critics of Trump, and they supported Kamala Harris in her 2024 presidential run.
