WASHINGTON — Democrats are bracing for the possible retirement of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, one of the party’s most powerful, popular and effective leaders, who served as chief antagonist to President Donald Trump during his first term and has quietly counseled Democrats as they take on Trump in his second term.
She is expected to make an announcement about her future after Tuesday’s elections, when voters will consider a ballot measure, known as “Proposition 50,” that would redraw the state’s congressional lines. Pelosi is a prominent proponent of the plan, which Democrats hope would net them several seats in next year’s midterm elections.

The Schumer Shutdown has been going on for more than a month now.
It started on October 1, and the Senate won't even be able to have another vote on it until Tuesday at the earliest.
The extended shutdown is raising concerns, particularly about funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and how it may be impacting air travel. Fox News Channel's Maria Bartiromo asked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Sunday if he thought the government would open this week, as the shutdown was "seriously impacting the U.S. economy." Cruz had an intelligent take on when it might be over, and why.

The federal food stamp program will pay out partial benefits to millions of Americans despite running out of regular funding at the start of this month due to the ongoing government shutdown, the Trump administration confirmed in court documents Monday.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive about 50% of its normal benefit level throughout November, using a contingency fund set aside for natural disasters and other emergencies.
The announcement by the White House follows a pair of Friday rulings by federal judges in Boston and Providence, RI

Federal prosecutors have announced the indictment and arrest of 20 individuals, most of them sworn law enforcement officers, in the Mississippi Delta region for allegedly conspiring with Mexican drug cartels to smuggle narcotics into the United States. U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner for the Northern District of Mississippi made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday.[snip] The announcement detailed the results of a years-long federal investigation and sting operation in the Mississippi Delta region, resulting in the indictment and arrest of 20 individuals, including 14 current or former law enforcement officers and six co-conspirators.

Terrifying surveillance video shows the moment the UK mass train stabbing suspect stormed into a barbershop armed with a huge knife — just one day before he allegedly carried out his bloody rampage on a London-bound train.
Anthony Williams, 32, was caught on camera pacing outside the barbershop Friday night soon after he allegedly knifed a 14-year-old boy in a separate attack, the Sun reported.
The maniac could be seen whipping out the huge blade and barging into the shop as employees and customers scrambled out of the way just before 7:30 p.m.
It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was injured in the ordeal.

Bill Gates should wear a “Trump was right about everything” hat to next month’s COP30 climate talks in Brazil as a sort of scarlet letter after his backflip on climate change.
“Climate change is not the biggest threat to the lives and livelihoods of people in poor countries, and it won’t be in the future,” is the billionaire climate activist’s new line.
Gates finally got to the right answer but not before doing immense damage as one of the most influential and well-heeled backers of a global scam to hijack science and scare the bejeesus out of a generation.

John Brennan, former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, lost his cool last week when asked about the Russiagate probe.
UPI
It was satisfying to see former CIA Director John Brennan lose his cool when he was cornered in his comfortable lair among cronies in Virginia last week about his various plots against Donald Trump.
Brennan was basking in the adulation of friends and assorted gullible future spooks as he sat on stage as part of an intelligence panel at the Hayden Center at George Mason University outside Washington, DC, Thursday night.
But his smug demeanor cracked when he was confronted by whistleblower Thomas Speciale during audience question time.

A conservative watchdog group is urging the Trump administration to take a closer look at its contracts with Microsoft as the Biden-era “Arctic Frost” probe continues to unravel.
The Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) is demanding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) review its contracts with Microsoft after the tech giant hired former Biden Justice Department official Lisa Monaco, according to a letter obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The letter warns that Monaco’s senior position poses a national security risk, as she is privy to sensitive information between Microsoft and the federal government. “The risk that Monaco could again use access to information

Since the assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk, Erika Kirk has endured not only the agony of loss but the cruelty of a culture that mocks mourning. Instead of compassion, she has been met with ridicule.
Memes circulate online, trivializing her grief. Commentators, some of them educators, journalists, and professionals, have publicly celebrated her suffering. A high school teacher posted that Kirk’s death was “worth it.” A university professor called it “karmic justice.” Others joked that Erika’s children would be “better off without a fascist father.” Most recently, a hugely popular podcaster called her a “fake” and a “grifter.” This is not fringe behavior. It is a reflection

Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman told CNN's "State of the Union" this morning that Democrats should immediately vote to reopen the government and avoid cuts to food stamps, Obamacare subsidies, and airport security.
"Democrats really need to own the shutdown. I mean, we’re shutting it down," Fetterman said. "I know why they claim they’re doing it—because they want to address the tax credits—and I fully support that. I voted for all of our cars—our causes—every single time. But I refuse to put 42 million Americans into that kind of food insecurity."

"American travelers shouldn’t be held hostage by politics in Washington. It’s time to privatize air traffic control,” says Rachel Greszler in the Daily Signal.
“The shutdown-induced mess at U.S. airports,” she writes, “demonstrates yet another consequence of leaving our skies in the hands of a politically driven, budget-dependent, and inefficient government bureaucracy.
“It doesn’t have to be this way.”
She goes on to note that “most other industrialized countries have lower-cost, more efficient air traffic control systems that are insulated from government spending battles.

It used to be that Westerners could look eastward to the Soviet Union, China, and North Korea and pat ourselves on the back about how much freer and more honest the media was here than in those totalitarian states.
Now? I am pretty sure that our "news" media could teach a lesson or three to our totalitarian rivals about how to spin the news to push a party line. The only difference here is that it is not the government that usually tells the media what to say or cover, but the media and the technocrats aligned with the transnational elites who shape public opinion for their ideological allies
