Former US Vice President Dick Cheney who was a leading advocate for the invasion of Iraq has died at the age of 84, his family has said. The hard-charging conservative passed away last night due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. Cheney served alongside Republican President George W Bush for two terms between 2001 and 2009. He was the chief architect of the 'war on terror' and was in office on the morning of 9/11.

RIP and condolences to the family. Dick was a patriot who served his country faithfully for decades.
That said, my overall reaction differs substantially from what it would have been not that long ago.

Vice President Cheney is not the Cheney who is the problem…. Beltway Liz is, although it appears she's back in her hole for now.

Other than his voting for Kamalie last year, getting it wrong on some political issues when he was VP, and his dislike of President Trump, he was a decent man. Said what he meant and meant what he said. Yeah, he will rest in peace.

I agree with #1. For a long time, I liked Cheney better than Bush. Considering who the opposition was in '00 and '04, Gore and Kerry, I wouldn't have any trouble voting the same way again, even knowing what I know now.

My local paper had an article about his death this morning. It was from the AP. The majority of the article was about President Trump and not Dick Cheney.

A shame that his daughter Liz took advantage of his age and health to get him to support Kamala.

Some will remember DC's contribution to political discourse, the all-purpose expletive that slips past the mods -- "What Cheney Said".

Cheney was an example of the Peter Principle. He was a very effective Secretary of Defence under Bush Sr but a lousy VP for Jr. His strategies and tactics were 20th Century. The world chaged but he diid not.

He was a faithful servant of Haliburton. He even helped start wars to boost Haliburton's bottom line.
And then he became a vicious Trump hater - - likely because President Trump is abjuring foreign wars. And there is no excuse - - none at all - - for supporting KamaLOL. It was his ultimate act of spite.
Let God be his judge.

For years, Cheney was Wyoming’s only congressman. Back then he was a sensible, regular guy. He and Bush made a mess of things in the Middle East, though. He ended badly. RIP.

Dick Cheney was a neocon, perhaps too aggressive. Didn't see eye to eye with PDT. But his service to the nation was undeniable. RIP.

Smart guy, unlike most in the political arena. Don't know his heart, so I won't judge him.

The war in Iraq was based on lies. Dick Chaney pushed for that war. The lives of many soldiers were destroyed because of those lies. Every time I look at a brave soldier who lost limbs or eyes or who ended up homeless because of the inability to cope with what they saw and had to endure I think of Chaney and the other NeoCons. They had a plan to create a democratic Middle East when every sane person understood that Islam will not allow democracy. I hope he repented of his sins but since he supported Kamala, I doubt it.

I stopped trusting him when he was SecNav, a very, very long time ago. His daughter is pure evil, probably learned it from dear old dad.

He will be remembered by me as a man who sent me to war based on a known lie.
His last presidential vote was for Kamala Harris.
He is survived by his daughter, Liz Cheney, the disgraced head of the January 6 commission, that committed many crimes in order to try to prevent Donald Trump from being president.
And daughter Mary Claire Cheney, who is a LGBTQ activist and "married" to a woman. She helps run a political advisor company that sends astroturf fake support letters and whatnot on Twitter and every other media to shape political opinions.

No reference to Darth Vader in the article, or did I miss that? Funny how "fascists" and "nazis" that turn on Trump become heroes in the eyes of dems and the media. And how quickly Cheney and Bush and their coterie turned on not only Trump but all of the people that defended and supported the Bush/Cheney administration when they were under constant barrage from the dems and press. MAGA are former Bush/Cheney people. Those J6 patriots that Liz Cheney destroyed? Yup, mostly former Bush/Cheney supporters. And the prancing NBC "journalist" Jenna Bush, who does she think stood up for her father when the dems and media tried to destroy his administration? And who does she think defended she and her sister when the press excoriated them for their childhood pranks? MAGA, MAGA, MAGA. It is disappointing at best that all of these people turned on not only Trump and MAGA, but the country they purport to love so much. Man-oh-man, I wouldn't want to be in a fox hole with any of them. RIP Cheney. But you got a lot to answer for.

RIP. Saw him and his family differently over time. Same with the Bushes. Didn't realize it at the time, but we had terrible choices for President in 2000 and 2004. Sometimes it takes decades to see the problems.

The warmongers have lost a champion of accommodating totalitarian socialism in exchange for perpetual foreign entanglements. Cheney was a charlatan who ran out of Bushes to bully. .
