Bolivia: Centrist Paz wins presidency

Bolivians headed to the polls Sunday in a presidential run-off election that brought a center-right candidate to power after two decades of one-party rule by the leftist Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) party. The vote pitted two conservative capitalists — right-wing former President Jorge Quiroga and centrist Senator Rodrigo Paz — against one another. Preliminary results showed Paz winning the election, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal said, securing over 54% of the vote. "The trend is irreversible," said Oscar Hassenteufel, the president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.

Comments:

Good riddance to Evo Morales!

Nearly 20 years after Dennis Rader was sent to prison, his daughter Kerri Rawson found the strength to confront him face-to-face. In 2023, the mother of two was enlisted by investigators to determine whether the man who once terrorized Wichita, Kansas, and taunted police during a 17-year murder spree might be linked to other unsolved killings. Facing the father who called himself BTK — short for "bind, torture, kill" — would mark the final break in a relationship already shattered by his crimes. Rawson, 46, who has spoken out about the serial killer over the years, is the subject of a new Netflix documentary, "My Father, the BTK Killer." It explores

In Washington, D.C. a new triumphal arch may be built across the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia, to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary. The proposal by architecture firm Harrison Design appears to be the same height—if not taller than—the Lincoln Memorial, which it would face. News of the arch circulated yesterday after Jim Watson photographed 3D-printed scale models of Harrison Design’s proposal at a meeting in the Oval Office between President Trump and Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb. Reporting in The Washington Post said Justin Shubow, president of the National Civic Art Society, presented the idea to Trump earlier this year.

Loyalty can elevate or enslave. Placed in truth, it anchors. Placed in tribe, it distorts. Though I have known both, I abandoned the latter and embraced the former. That is why when I look at Ilhan Omar and Charlie Kirk, I see two distinct moral universes. Charlie’s foundation was faith in Christ and country, in family and the free market. His faith was that America embodies true freedom and dignity because our country was founded on biblical principles—principles that demand that power be checked and the weak be protected. Ilhan Omar’s foundation rests on three pillars: clan, Islamism, and leftism. Each demands loyalty not to principle but to faction. Each reduces life

Are we living in 1859? I ask it that way because all you can see and hear from Chicago are chaos, anarchy, violence, leftist conspiracy theories and exhortations by Democrats to ruin, and murder federal officials enforcing the law. It’s getting worse by the day. The residents of the Democrat fever swamp now scream across broadcast media that President Trump will end Democracy in a year. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to rely on information from the local left-leaning corporate legacy news media–Sun Times and Tribune–as violent leftist mobs backed by Democrat politicians continue attacking federal law enforcement officers across the country.

The Virginia Fraternal Order of Police is demanding that embattled Democratic attorney general hopeful Jay Jones exit the race “immediately” in light of the recently surfaced text messages showing him fantasizing about the former state House speaker getting shot in the head. Jones’ disturbing text messages in 2022 had surfaced late last week in a bombshell story, but the AG hopeful has remained in the race and local Democrats have stood by him. “This conduct has no place in our society or democracy, especially from an elected official who is running to be the top prosecutor in Virginia,” the Old Dominion State’s FOP wrote in a letter to Jones on Monday.

Joe Biden’s presidency was a multi-trillion dollar criminal conspiracy that shred every “norm,” violated nearly every right, and abused any power it could to punish its political opponents. The Trump administration’s prosecutions of Team Biden’s abuses of power may be the healthiest development for the rule of law since the end of Jim Crow. This is a story Republicans should tell with pride — and must tell incessantly, or the next Democrat administration will make Biden’s four years look like Camelot under Arthur.

At the specific request of then-Vice President Joe Biden, the CIA buried an embarrassing intelligence report detailing the poor view the Ukrainian government took of his diplomatic efforts and the business dealings of his own family in that country. Biden had traveled to Kyiv in December 2015, ostensibly to meet with leaders of that fledgling democracy and to deliver a warning against “the cancer of corruption.” And during an address to the Ukrainian parliament, he did condemn the “pervasive poison of cronyism, corruption, and kleptocracy.” But behind the scenes, Ukrainian officials expressed “bewilderment and disappointment” that the vice president had crossed the Atlantic “almost exclusively to deliver a generic speech.”

Germany could pull out of next year's Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna if Israel is excluded, Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned on Sunday. Speaking on public broadcaster ARD, Merz was asked whether Germany should voluntarily forgo the contest under such circumstances. 'I would support that,' he said. 'I think it's a scandal that this is even being discussed. Israel belongs there.' The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is due to hold a vote in November to decide whether Israel will be permitted to compete in Eurovision 2026. If a majority among active EBU members votes against Israel's inclusion, the country will be barred from taking part in the globally-recognised competition.

What began as a quiet October Friday in Virginia politics erupted into a full-blown national scandal when screenshots of private, three-year old text messages showing Democratic attorney general nominee Jay Jones fantasizing about shooting then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his children were made public. The National Review story revealed an August 2022 exchange between Jones — a former Norfolk delegate and one-time assistant attorney general — and Del. Carrie Coyner, R-Chesterfield. In the texts, Jones described a scenario in which Gilbert “gets two bullets to the head,” followed by a wish that the Republican lawmaker’s children “die in their mother’s arms.”

I’m talking about the fake news that spent the past two weeks trying to scare average Americans into thinking that the Trump administration was coming after them – in particular by stripping them of their Obamacare subsidies. At random, here’s a quote to demonstrate, this one from John Berman on CNN: “This morning with the government shutdown, there’s a lot of finger-pointing going on. Democrats want to include an extension of Obamacare subsidies that expire at the end of the year. Republicans have refused to negotiate on subsidies unless Democrats first agree to a short-term resolution that would fund

Maybe money can’t buy happiness or wisdom, but it can help buy power. JB Pritzker knows this better than most. Over the years, he has spent some $347 million of his own, largely inherited, wealth to acquire and hold on to the governorship of Illinois, the perch from which he aspires to national glory. The Pritzker Project proves the wisdom of the cynical parody of the Golden Rule: (“Whoever has the gold, makes the rules!”) Pritzker’s only rule when it comes to wielding his powerful purse is whether doing so serves his personal ambition. The group of criminals swiped priceless items, including a necklace and a brooch once belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte and his wife Josephine, in broad daylight, forcing the tourist attraction to shut its doors. The raid, which took place at around 9.30am on Sunday, saw the thieves brazenly break into the art museum, which is also home to the Mona Lisa, by propping a huge freight elevator up against its walls, according to an investigating source. Officials in President Trump’s Justice Department have been scrutinizing crime data in recent months — they’ve found evidence that Democratic politicians have been skewing crime stats for their own benefit ahead of the midterm elections, The Post has learned. Illinois Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker — a vocal opponent of Trump’s use of federal troops for both immigration enforcement and fighting big-blue-city crime — has lately touted double-digit declines in Chicago crime rates where “shootings and homicides on our highways are down 60, 70, 80% depending on where you look.” But the number of felonies in Chicago — not to mention New York, Los Angeles and Portland, Ore. —

Tellingly, the most senior of the nine officers axed on the 17th was General He Weidong, the second-ranked vice chairman of the Commission and Xi Jinping's No. 1 loyalist in the PLA. The general had gained prominence as Xi's top enforcer in the military. Gen. He was not the only officer who backed Xi and has now been taken out of the military's leadership ranks. Moreover, it is difficult to identify any Xi adversary who was purged in the last 18 months. It is unlikely, at a time Xi Jinping appears to be fighting for political survival, that he would remove his most important supporter in the military.

The IDF began “a series of strikes” against Hamas targets in southern Gaza in response to the terror group violating the ceasefire agreement on Sunday, the military announced. The military condemned Hamas’s “blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement,” which occurred when the terror group fired an anti-tank missile and opened fire on Israeli soldiers. Earlier, the Prime Minister's Office announced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had instructed Israel's armed forces to respond with force against Gazan terror targets during a consultation with Defense Minister Israel Katz and the heads of Israel's security establishment.

On Saturday, the U.S. State Department issued an urgent bulletin, warning of an imminent Hamas attack on the people of Gaza and also warning that the "United States and the other guarantors" would take steps to protect Gazans and uphold the "integrity of the ceasefire." Now, the IDF has indeed responded to multiple Hamas violations of the ceasefire. An Israeli military official confirmed the strikes to Fox News on Sunday,
