The Anti-Democratic Streak of ‘Banned
Books Week’

Original Article

It’s Banned Books Week, the celebration of blue-haired librarians cosplaying as champions of the First Amendment against evil conservatives who dare question the appropriateness of sexually explicit, pro-trans literature for five-year-olds. To summarize some of the silliness ably highlighted by NR’s Vahaken Mouradian on the subject: No “Banned Book” in America is actually banned; we still have an operative First Amendment, and every book on the American Library Association’s list of the top ten “Challenged Books” of 2024 is readily available on Amazon or at thousands of libraries and bookstores throughout the country.

History will record that the Democrat party openly supported the teaching of homosexuality and transvestitism to elementary school aged children. They are all sick.

Like everything else, Democrats turn an idea into a political weapon. I liked librarians better when they Shoosed everyone and wore those half-glasses perched on their nose.

The left knows that there are no banned books, but they like using the phrase because it sounds like 1930s Germany under the Nazis.

And you have the ACLU running ads on Newsmax about the banning of books from libraries (!) featuring authors like Judy Blume. Hello Ms. Blume - nothing illegal or unconstitutional about a library, especially one funded with tax dollars, limiting the availability of certain books by age - you know - no porn books for kid under 18 ....

I worked in an elementary/middle school library for over 20 years. You have a budget and only so much money available for book purchases. Not every book ever published can end up in the school library. No books are banned as they are available from a thousand other sources. Banned means no one can get a copy as none are available which is not the case. Like I said limited funds means a limited amount of books. There were some titles I would not touch as they were inappropriate for the age group I served. If a student asked if I had said book I told them no but gave them a flyer for their parents on where to look for the book. Public library was mentioned and sellers listed. I passed out maybe 10 a year. This is not rocket science. If you go to the grocery and want a nice cauliflower and can't find one you go to another grocery. So stop the fake over reaction and go find it somewhere else. Why are there so many perverted people interested in the private parts of children?

And all those books that Hegseth reportedly "banned" at the Service Academies? They never were. There is only a restriction now in place from using them as source material for classroom teaching. They were always and still are available in the schools' libraries for reading and research.

Former President Barack Obama on Thursday hailed the Gaza cease-fire deal brokered by President Trump – but failed to mention the commander in chief’s name. The glaring omission of “Trump” in Obama’s social media post celebrating that the “end to the conflict is within sight” outraged administration officials, the president’s supporters and members of his family on X. “After two years of unimaginable loss and suffering for Israeli families and the people of Gaza, we should all be encouraged and relieved that an end to the conflict is within sight; that those hostages still being held will be reunited with their families;

In yesterday’s Breitbart Business Digest, we examined a new working paper from Jared Bernstein and Daniel Posthumus that documented the decline of U.S. manufacturing employment, particularly the devastating 2000-2010 “China Shock” period when 5.7 million factory jobs disappeared. While the authors called this period “destructive” and urged preventing future shocks, they insisted that “sweeping” tariffs were not the right policy. Their reasoning was undermined by a significant contradiction: they claim tariffs would disrupt American manufacturing because we’re too dependent on foreign inputs, yet they simultaneously advocate for subsidies for sectors vulnerable to foreign export controls.

California has long been known for its counter-culture, its zaniness, its "otherness." But in recent decades, that reputation has grown sinister; it’s no longer about The Beach Boys, surfing culture, “Beverly Hills Cop,” or even The Eagles. For the last 15 years or so, give or take, it’s become more about hard-core left-wing politics, societal decline, socialism, and during the COVID years, even totalitarianism as the power structure in the Golden State enacted the most freedom-stripping measures of virtually any state. Now, unsurprisingly, the state’s brain trust seems to be in some sort of schizophrenic blender,

A federal appeals court on Wednesday lifted a judge’s order blocking President Trump from federalizing Oregon National Guard Troops. On Saturday, Judge Karin Immergut, a Trump appointee, blocked President Trump’s National Guard deployment to Portland. Judge Immergut issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) and blasted President Trump’s decision to deploy troops. The TRO will expire on October 18. The judge warned that Trump’s justification to deploy troops to Portland may send the country into a constitutional crisis. On Sunday, President Trump called up hundreds of California National Guard Troops to Portland to circumvent the judge’s order blocking Oregon National Guard Troop deployment.

The Trump administration’s approval of a Qatari air force base in Idaho isn’t popular with either of America’s political parties. Department of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the forthcoming Qatari Emiri Air Force facility in America’s heartland Friday morning, thanking the Middle Eastern nation for playing a “core part” in negotiating the ceasefire between Israel and Palestine. Mountain Home Air Force Base will host Qatari F-15 fighter jets and pilots, and allow Qatari forces alongside American troops for F-15 pilot training. Several high-profile antifa leaders have fled the country or are actively making plans to abscond overseas. News of their escape comes after President Donald Trump designated antifa as a domestic terrorist threat and directed federal authorities to dismantle terrorism networks operating within the United States. Mark Bray, a financier of transnational antifa operations and antifa’s foremost thought leader in America, announced he is fleeing to Europe, settling in Spain specifically, under the pretext of safety concerns following negative media attention. Before his departure, Bray issued an apparent call-to-action, urging widespread militancy. “Only mass antifascism, legal or not, can save us,” Bray declared on Bluesky, a popular platform on the political Left.

The motion passed by a narrow margin of 178 to 169, closing a political chapter and heightening tensions between Madrid and Tel Aviv. This new law has changed the status of the two‑year moratorium enacted at the onset of Israel’s war in Gaza into a binding statute. The newly approved legislation bans the export and import of all defense and dual‑use technologies, and it prohibits ships and aircraft carrying fuel or military‑usable cargo from entering Spanish ports or airspace.
