California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is leaning into the redistricting fight as he looks to build his national profile ahead of a potential 2028 bid, but the move comes with political risks.
Newsom formally declared his plans at a rally Thursday to call a special election for November that would allow state lawmakers to redraw California’s congressional map in response to President Trump urging red states to do the same. The plan comes as Newsom positions himself as the most vocal Trump critic on the national stage — and amid speculation he’s planning to mount a White House bid in the coming years.

With Californians polling 60% against this idea it may take more voter fraud than they’re capable of to get this passed. Some powerful forces are already lining up against it. If it succeeds, the Democrats could still lose the midterms. If it fails, Newsom is finished.

What this scheme is showing is the Democrats in California can only win if they rig the system.
The ideas area horrendous, after all.
They fooled enough voters with the abortion scare, but now that it's firmly in the State Constitution, that issue is off the table. Those people can now be free to vote for all the other issues without fear of that being a concern any longer since SCOTUS ruled it's a state issue not a Federal issue.
And, the Christian voters are also free to vote in droves now that the same issue is no longer relevant to a particular politician.
They can all start voting for the major issues of crime, schools, roads, high electricity rates, high water rates, and extremely high gasoline prices. All pocket book issues impacting seniors, teachers, and everyone except the ultra wealthy.
That the policies over the past 2 decades from Liberal Democrats are driving out businesses pushing more of the tax burden on everyone.

Risks like this:
California’s independent redistricting commission, which has been in place for more than a decade, appears to have strong support.
A poll released Thursday showed 64 percent of Californians said they back the independent commission holding redistricting authority, compared to 36 percent who said they support returning the authority to the state legislature. Those supporting the commission included 72 percent of independents, 66 percent of Republicans and 61 percent of Democrats.
And rolling the dice in what is clearly his attempt at manipulation in a $200million special election. He is really stupid.

Abbott and TX should turn the table on CA and say that TX will hold off on redistricting if IL, MA, RI, CT, etc. all revert their their districts back to pre-gerrymandered maps. Put it back on the dems.

Sure remove all of the states congressional members of the majority party so there is zero say in the House.

If that guy wants anyone to take him seriously, he needs to clean up his state. Get a grip on crime, manage the forests and undergrowth and crack down on waste such as that train project.
