An Australian state has asked citizens to surrender machetes at disposal bins ahead of a statewide ban on the weapons aimed at combating knife crime.
Australia’s state of Victoria on Thursday announced that more than 40 machete disposal bins will be available at police stations across the state to allow citizens to safely get rid of the weapons without a penalty before the Sept. 1 ban begins.
"Owning, carrying, using, buying, or selling a machete without a valid exemption or approval will be a criminal offense," the Victorian government said in a statement.
The government is running a "Machete Amnesty" period from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30 to support the safe disposal

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
A big, explosive controversy that’s impossible to ignore! A jaw-dropping confession that outraged his corporate bosses! Or maybe he’d finally suffer the consequences of speaking “truth to power” — and pay the ultimate price for refusing to back down! That’s how “The Howard Stern Show” was supposed to end.
This November marks the 100th anniversary of TS Eliot’s haunting poem, “The Hollow Men.” It’s a telling coincidence, for it foretold not just the fate of the world, but of a certain shock-jock: “This is the way the [Howard Stern Show] ends; Now with a bang but a whimper.”
This week, the news broke:

President Trump is putting America first again. This time, he’s going after the rigged system that counts illegal aliens in the U.S. Census, skewing congressional representation and rewarding sanctuary states with more power. On Thursday, Trump announced he’s directing the Department of Commerce to conduct a new, corrected census — one that actually counts American citizens and excludes those here illegally.
“I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024,” Trump announced in a post on Truth Social.

“If you find yourself arguing that it’s a good thing to drop nuclear weapons on people, then you are evil.” Thus spake Tucker Carlson last year on Joe Rogan’s podcast after the Daily Wire’s Jeremy Boreing claimed on Twitter that people who condemn the dropping of the bombs and describe the United States as evil for doing so, hate their country. Boreing and Carlson were replaying an argument that has been on a loop ever since the Sixties: Was Truman’s decision to drop the bombs justified? As an historical debate, there will probably never be an end to it.

The European Union's headlong rush into soft totalitarianism continues apace.
Drooling with envy over China's social credit system, European powers are constantly looking for ways to restrict the ability to speak privately with one another. France flipped to support. 19 of 27 member states are now backing it.
Germany's undecided - but if Berlin folds, mass surveillance becomes law by mid-October.
The excuse? Stopping CSAM.
The reality? Total algorithmic surveillance and the end of private messaging in Europe.

The 2020 Census was alarmingly inaccurate, resulting in faulty congressional representation in Washington D.C.

T.S. Eliot claimed that “April is the cruelest month,” but in this homeschooling dad’s opinion, that dubious honor belongs to August. [Snip] Take Dr. Michelle Reid, the superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). Not only does her new contract give her a salary higher than that of the president of the United States,,,, [Snip] It would be comforting to see Reid as an outlier, but her approach is standard operating procedure for the educational establishment. Concerned citizens need only look at the National Educational Association (NEA) to understand this.

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey is the latest Democrat to performatively threaten retaliatory redistricting, despite her state’s congressional delegation consisting of zero Republicans to remove.
Healey joined leftwing Democrat Govs. Gavin Newsom (CA), JB Pritzker (IL), Kathy Hochul (NY), and others in protesting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) call for a special legislative session in June, to consider issues including a rare mid-decade redistricting. Abbott, with President Donald Trump’s encouragement, insists that deep-red Texas’s congressional maps allow Democrats outsized representation.

Israel plans to take military control of the entire Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday, ahead of a security cabinet meeting in which senior officials will discuss a proposal to expand Israeli operations in Gaza.
Asked by Fox News’ Bill Hemmer whether Israel intends to take control of the entirety of the 26-mile strip, Netanyahu responded “we intend to.”
“We want to liberate ourselves and the people of Gaza from the awful terror of Hamas,” Netanyahu said. The prime minister stipulated that Israel does not want to retain control of Gaza in the long term, saying “we don’t want to keep it. We don’t want to govern it.

We’ve been told for decades that working for the government is a calling, a service to society not unlike being called into the ministry or feeling an obligation to teach the next generation of Americans. If so, why do public employees need unions? Maybe in our lifetimes we’ll see public-sector unions reduced to the rubble they should have been crushed into decades ago.
Government workers aren’t angels and their union affiliations aren’t sacred. The country would be better off with far fewer of the former and none of the latter. To this end, President Donald Trump issued an executive order in March that barred agencies that have national security missions

The redistricting battle in Texas has taken a dramatic new turn, with the FBI now involved in tracking down Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to break quorum. The move follows a formal request from U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, who announced Thursday that the federal government has agreed to assist Texas law enforcement in locating the absent legislators. “I am proud to announce that Director Kash Patel has approved my request for the FBI to assist state and local law enforcement in locating runaway Texas House Democrats,” Sen. Cornyn said in a statement. “We cannot allow these rogue legislators to avoid their constitutional responsibilities.”
