Hello, this is Victor Davis Hanson for The Daily Signal. I’d like to talk about illegal immigration, but specifically about the new president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum.
She’s been very vocal about U.S. policy toward Mexico. For example, she said she would offer legal counsel to her citizens that were here illegally that were picked up, she thought, unfairly or too violently by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She also said that the United States had no business taxing remittances—that is money that Mexican nationals here, for the most part illegally, send back to Mexico.
She said, “Do not come into Mexican national ground if you’re going after the cartels.”

It's nice to think that Mexico would do the right thing, but, like with democrats, it will not happen.

Don't the cartels kind of control the shots in Mexico? Isn't that really the problem? Aren't the pubas in the government on the take?

Money and the fear of assassination drives the Mexican government. Higher tariffs plus Reaper drones used on known cartel bases would help. The cartels are going to have to be dealt with like the IDF deals with Hamas.

Mexico will never truly be fixed. Their government thrives on corruption, It's expected - they even use a specific word in everyday language - mordida, or bite - as in "what do I get out of it? What's my bite or portion?)
It's endemic to most Central and South American countries. Even Argentina - finally pulling out of a 100+ yr Socialist nosedive with President Milei at the helm - isn't yet totally out of it.

Sheinbaum would not be playing this silly game if Mexico existed next to North Korea. Anybody who crossed over the border would disappear. End of story. Don't be so obvious about protecting your cartels.

I probably shouldn’t admit this here, but she’s my maternal cousin. We would see each other periodically at family gatherings. I always thought she was Californian, as her Spanish wasn’t great. Really good ballerina, believe it or not.
As relevant here, but apparently unknown, her parents were hardcore communists and deeply involved with attempts at revolution in Mexico after WW2. Led to a major split in the family, as the rest of my mother’s family was ardently anti-communist.
The takeaway is she is a literal red diaper doper baby, brought up from birth to hate Western civilization and America. To the point that we had words with each other because she didn’t approve of me being in the US military and we’ve been polite but stuff now for 25 years.
Basically, she’s a Mexican Obama, but much more communist. Barely Mexican, btw. Her new identity as proud Mexican has been carefully cultivated over the last decade.

#8. In other words if she were in the USA her politics would be hard core progressive communist-socialist Democrat. Clearly the politicians in Mexico for the most part cannot reform themselves away from the traditional Mexican political agenda item of “la mordida” known in the English language as “the bite” which in reality are massive payoffs from criminal cartel and corrupt entities ensconced around Mexico. So in that respect any such politician in Mexico who attempts to institute reforms big enough to make a difference would face criminal assassination.

If the US dollar fails, how much of the world be in ruins living under crypto currency?
Pay the foreign “day labors” in script currency that can only be used in areas where it has been earned.
Taking the script back to another country would make it useless. Devise a plan where it can only be converted to US dollars by merchants in areas where it has been earned.

Not even Mexican food, poster # 12? My tastebuds would go on strike if I withheld eating Mexican food for any amount of time!

Re #13, I like some Mexican food, but if I never had any more, as the price of not having all the workers in a fast food joint or on a construction site speaking Spanish, I'd sign on with a smile in a heartbeat.
VERY, VERY sick of all things Mexican.

Well, Claudia if you don't want the USA to arrest your criminals up here, then you make sure they don't come her by putting them in jail yourself. Unless, you get kick backs from them.
