Let's Aim for Historical Accuracy

Original Article

As an amateur historian -- and probably not a good one -- I go nuts when I see amateurish fictions tendered as core premises. This is no more frequently found than in Hollywood; but do not kid yourself, it is not confined to Hollywood...Of course, there are other mistakes, but the grandest mistake of all is Islam. It is now coming out into the popular realm that the historicity of Mohammed may be a total fabrication. Not merely a distortion, but a total fabrication. Robert Spencer has written a polemic questioning the whole historicity of Islam’s founder. And not just Robert Spencer, but Dr. Jay Smith.

Comments:

Is it possible that the very existence of Mohammad, the high prophet of Islam is a complete fabrication and never existed? That Islam itself is a total fraud? Konrad makes a solid scholarly case for that proposition.

I certainly do not know about the historical fact of Islam's existence, but I do know that calling it a religion is wrong . The is God. There is no Allah. The two could not exist in the same dimension, unless Allah is Satan by another name.

Perhaps this is why violence and purge is the solution to "non believers". Too many holes in the story.

For years, I have believed -and said- that 'Anthropogenic Climate Disruption' (I THINK that's what they're calling it these days) was the biggest SCAM in history. If this writer is correct, I'll have to demote Anthropogenic Climate Disruption' to SECOND biggest SCAM in history.

I have been reading up on this stuff for years. I've read Crone's paper on "Hagarism" (proto-Islam) and a couple of others. I am intrigued and liked what she had to say. Unfortunately, her writing style is - shall we say - not user friendly. She was an academic, writing for other academics. She knew she was going to be nitpicked to death on every jot and tittle. (An appropriate allusion, given the subject here.) Robert Spencer has valid points but I don't trust his citations much and he has a tendency to rant, which makes me cautious of him. I've read his "Did Muhammad Exist?: An Inquiry into Islam’s Obscure Origins", both the 2012 and 2024 updated versions. (I just saw that he is also a blogger. That explains a few things.) I VERY much recommend "In God's Path: The Arab Conquests and the Creation of the Islamic Empire" by Robert G. Hoyland, Oxford University Press, 2015. It doesn't discuss the development of Islam, per se, but it's in there. Hoyland has a very readable writing style, logical organization and maps that you can read. I also recommend "In the Shadow of the Sword: The Birth of Islam and the Rise of Global Arab Empire" by Tom Holland, Anchor Books (Random House), 2012. He does get into the development of Islam, pretty much covering all the major religions in the area at the time AND their various sects, divisions, off-shoots, etc. It is readable, but his complicated subject and the amount of information makes it hard to present it in a straightforward way. Stick with it. All of the above available through Amazon.com. However, Crone's "Hagarism" costs $350 in paperback and almost $2000 in hardback. (I have an obscure digital copy of her paper, not in book form.)

I've read the Quran many times, in many translations, and also the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad. Nothing in this speculative essay strikes me as remotely on the mark with respect to the likely truth.

The story of George Franklin Grant, a dentist, academic, and recreational golfer, is interesting. This isn’t just because he, a Harvard professor, invented a wood-composite golf tee in 1899. It’s that under many Americans’ conception of history, he shouldn’t even have existed. You see, Grant was a successful black man in the U.S. almost 100 years before the civil-rights era or the birth of affirmative action. Yes, you read that right. Grant was admitted to Harvard Dental School in 1868 and then became Harvard University’s first black faculty member in 1871. Grant wasn’t alone, either (except in his golf-invention exploits). By 1920, there were 3,560 black physicians in America, a figure including 65 black women.

It hasn't been a banner month for Kamala Harris. A little less than a year from the day she lost the election, Harris is on a book tour (one that her fellow Dems are pretty sour on), and she's getting lambasted by foreign media for her role in covering up Joe Biden's cognitive decline. Despite these setbacks, Harris insists she's not done with politics, even though in August she told Stephen Colbert she was stepping away from "public service" because the "system is broken."

The family’s ordeal began during a routine diaper change. “My husband explained to me that he was changing the diaper, and Kylen’s leg got caught in the onesie. This new data shows illegal aliens are hearing our message," DHS adds in a statement.

The far-left Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced in a press release on Friday that they were going to begin the process of closing down for good, despite a supposed outcry from millions of Americans. he Democratic Party is in sad shape, by its own self-report and in the view of most observers. At the same time, the party is seemingly more progressive and more dominated by progressives than it has been for a good long time. Are the two things related? Yes, they are—but not in the way most people think. The problem isn’t that progressives have made the party too progressive; the problem is rather that today’s progressives aren’t really progressive in the true sense of the term and as a result have led the party into a number of political cul-de-sacs that have nothing to do with progress and dramatically undermine its appeal.

Barack Obama wants you to think he had nothing to do with the Russia collusion hoax, but that lie is unraveling fast. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has declassified a trove of documents that expose how the Obama administration faked the January 2017 intelligence report to falsely accuse Trump of colluding with Russia. The evidence includes a 2020 House Intelligence Committee report, which confirms that despite no cyber interference from Russia, Obama pushed for a new intelligence community assessment (ICA) in late 2016 to shape a narrative that Putin was helping Trump. It was all part of a desperate attempt to undermine a duly elected president.

As RedState reported back in 2023, the senator claimed a Maryland home as his "primary residence" on a federally-insured loan document. By doing so, he secured a lower mortgage rate. The problem? He's a politician from Burbank, CA, who would not have been eligible to hold the elected offices he held from 2003-2025 if his primary residence were in another state. So one way or the other, it looks like Schiff lied.
