KYIV, Ukrain – The United States is offering Ukraine security guarantees for a period of 15 years as part of a proposed peace plan, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Monday, though he said he would prefer an American commitment of up to 50 years to deter Russia from further attempts to seize its neighbor’s land by force.(snip)egotiators are still searching for a breakthrough on key issues, however, including whose forces withdraw from where and the fate of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, one of the 10 biggest in the world. Trump noted that the monthslong U.S.-led negotiations could still collapse.

Better not be with ground combat units. Something’s not right with this. How about the EU put their big boy pants on for a change as this is a European issue

If this story is true—and, we are only hearing from Zelenskyy and the AP, at this point—let’s hope someone in the Trump administration, or a subsequent Republican administration, is prepared to renig on the deal. I don’t want to be involved with this corrupt country, its dictator, or its allies for another 15 years.

Any promises from any government, including ours, are not worth much. If thats the deal there is no deal.

I looked no further than the last sentence of the lede, "Trump said, "... could still collapse." Is there a total for our donations to Zelensky's Ukraine? I saw a figure of $500 B. Before that, I saw $200-300 B by the Biden admin. What do we get out of it? It's not a NATO matter. Putin made no moves against us. $300-400 B would well serve our military. Do we still get $500B from rare-earth finds? Which has lost a lot of value since we found our own. How much is a 15-year security guarantee going to cost? Do the Ukrainian crooks get amnesty for the theft of US$B? they embezzled from their countrymen and us? I think Putin is on to President Trump's Moby. All he has to do is reject it; meanwhile, he continues - it seems to have worked for him so far. They were close to a settlement once when they didn't have all this help; let them try again. The same goes for Zelensky; he keeps ripping up the deal, too, to keep the money flowing. If we have an issue with Russia, then let's keep our money and weapons and deal with them directly; otherwise, dump this costly mess; it's a quagmire.

We need to make Zelenski pay for anything he gets from US, or he gets nothing. I prefer nothing. We the People are done with propping up governments and people who turn around and hate US for it. Let that stuff go! Let those all white folks in Europe figure it out.

Or - Z could be lying. Trump can promise nothing beyond the end of his term because democrats are waiting in line to dish out a lot more money.

The USA "guaranteed" their territorial integrity, in writing, in the 1990s, and convinced them to give Russia the multiple tens nuclear armed missiles that they possessed after the Soviet Union broke up. And since the missiles were built in Ukraine, they would have had the ability to maintain and use them without Russian assistance.
They were stupid to buy that deal, and they'd be stupid to get suckered a second time. No matter how absolutely sincere Trump is, he can't control what the next three presidents will do, or more likely FAIL to do.
