The Washington Post’s national security reporter is unimpressed with Pete Hegseth’s 20-plus awards and commendations during his two combat tours, emails obtained Wednesday by Breitbart News reveal.
The Post’s Alex Horton, a national security reporter, pushed back Tuesday on Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s characterization of Hegseth, Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, as “highly decorated” for his military service.“Can you help me understand what highly decorated means in this release?” Horton asked Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s staff in response to an op-ed Tuberville wrote praising Hegseth.

Says the guy who’s NEVER served….
Morons.

Okay, I won't argue that many of the awards listed here are for simply participating. You get a National Defense Service Medal just for signing up these days, and I received an Overseas Service Ribbon for drinking lots of San Miguel Beer in the PI for a couple of years. Bronze Stars, though? The list doesn't mention "Combat V" for either of them but they definitely "jump out" of anyone's resume.

Says one who probably never served, in any military organization...a pox on him...

What I'm hearing from the non-special needs enlisted ranks is that they are very excited about him.

In the honor department I would put my money on the average no-medal enlisted troop over some big shot reporter any time.
I've seen hero medals given to people who didnt earn them, simply as a way to groom them for greater rank. I've also seen deserving troops put up for serious medals and turned down for idiotic reasons.
They look impressive on a uniform, but must be taken with a grain of salt. The uniform itself says more.

Being anywhere near a war zone is putting your life at risk. Enemy missiles can land on a military base. Helicopters crash. Sometimes a serviceman goes berserk and starts shooting inside the tent. All journalists have to fear is a paper cut.

Yeah. I wonder how much time this stupid reporter spent in the line of fire. Nothing JUMPS OUT.

The msm has put out the memo that today is "Destroy Pete Hegseth Day" , and they are certainly doing their best. Hang in there, Pete, and Pres. Trump. Keep fighting, and twist those RINO senator arms, Mr. President!

Bronze Stars are always good, but without the "V" for valor in combat, they are literally 'efficiency awards' for doing a good job running some program. NEVER a bad thing, but let's not assume that he was out dragging some wounded soldier to safety under enemy fire. If that were the case, there would be the "V" device. Since they are never mentioned, I assume that these are not part of the awards.
So, two good job, top performance awards. Nothing at all wrong with that.

"Highly Decorated", in this instance means he's not guilty of "Stolen Valor", as so many Democrats with "military backgrounds", are.
John Kerry, anyone?

Highly decorated, for this idiot reporter, means he has two Bronze Stars.

As #7 says, the uniform itself says more than then medals.
When you put on the uniform, you say you are willing to be on the target side of the bullets. None of us want to serve with the person who is there to actively seek the medals. (In fact, if there is suspicion that you WANTED the Medal of Honor, you ain't going to get it, no matter what you did.)
It's the hand you are dealt. Some people are tested more than others; how did you handle it? How does Walz's character of service compare to Hegseth's or Vance's? Ribbon rack be damned.
[Transparency here, the highest I got was the Meritorious Service Medal. For what was asked of me, and what I did in answer, I am well satisfied.]

Pete was awarded the CIB (Combat Infantryman's Badge). This is all he needs to prove his valor. The CIB is worn over all the other medals one may possess. And with good reason. He is a hero, like all soldiers who earned the CIB.

He sort of undercuts his own title as a "national security" reporter with such a stupid question.

As much as I object to the Hegseth nomination, his military service is not where you criticize him. As Secretary of Defense, he makes a talented television personality.
