As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump was nearly assassinated last night during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, by a 20-year-old Democrat donor named Thomas Matthew Crooks.
Trump immediately grabbed his neck after being shot while bleeding profusely from his ear. Video recordings of the scene also show Trump ducking down immediately after the initial gunshots were heard.
Secret Service agents promptly shielded Trump and guided him away from further harm. Despite being injured, a defiant Trump raised his fist and yelled “Fight!” multiple times toward the crowd.

It seems that local police officer saved Trump's life. His encounter caused the shooter to hurry his shots, thereby missing a fatal shot on the president.

That is unforgiveable in a police officer. He knew what the event was about and who was there. Just like the Sheriff's deputies at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High school in Florida. Take that man's badge.

It seems two police officers went to the building to investigate the roof. In order to gain access to the roof, one officer had to climb onto the back of the other. The officer was able to reach the roof line and peer over the edge. When he did, the shooter pointed the gun at the officer. The officer then ducked down below the roof line for cover. In doing so, he lost his balance and fell. It was at this time that the shooter started firing his weapon at Trump. So, while the officer was unable to stop the shooting, he may have caused the shooter to rush his shots.

So, while plausible it does reek of gross incompetence. Why did he not engage the shooter given the scenario? Shots would have alerted the SS CA team and maybe gotten Trump out of the line of fire sooner.
But there's definitely some stuff that doesn't add up about this...

1, the shooter did not miss Trump because of poor aiming. His bullet was millimeters away from Trump's cranium because he turned his head at the last second. Otherwise it was dead on. Where did a 20 year old with no military background get this proficiency. I am sure the FBI will be investigating diligently!

I don't get it. In order for the punk to "point his rifle" at the officer, he had to make a HUGE sight picture for the SWAT snipers on the roof across the way looking at him, plus, it greatly reduced his element of surprise allowing the ground crew enough time to get President Trump off the stage (hah). Those 'beat' cops should've been up there poking their hats on a stick above the roofline to draw his attention until Police snipers could neutralize the threat. No excuses, he failed too.

This is not true - it is not what happened. But then we always hurry to place blame and believe shoddy news coverage.

If he heard there was a shooter on the roof, went to investigate, why wasn't his pistol out, ready to engage the shooter?

If the article is correct, Crooks used a ladder to access the roof. His car was supposedly parked ½ mile away. Are they saying Crooks walked to the building carrying a ladder and nobody noticed? If not, it had to be an inside job because someone had to get the ladder in position for Crooks. If the article is incorrect and there was no ladder involved, how did Crooks get to the roof? Fly? Jump?

One report I heard says the shooter climbed up an adjacent building and walked across two or three roofs to his final location.

#7, That shot wasn't so difficult that one should assume extensive training must have taken place. A recreational shooter could easily have gained sufficient skills with an occasional trip to the range for a head shot at 137 yards from a prone position. Had that been offhand I'd be singing a different tune.

For a competent proned out shooter with a scoped rifle, 135 yards is like a golfer's tap in, a basketball player's uncontested layup. What #5 wrote is probably what actually happened. If those local officers caused the assassin to rush his shot, that might have been what prevented a mortal shot on PDJT. God's mighty angels surrounded him. Not only is President Trump in thankful prayer, millions of patriotic Americans are praying with him. Let's have a revival! Now's a good time for it.

Who is this mysterious officer? No one knows his/her name? Why is it being kept quiet, and therefore the subject of speculation? We knew the name of the sniper that shot the perpetrator almost immediately: Jonathan Willis.

The facts indicate that the officers were attempting to do the right thing. And if you've never walked on that kind or roof....it is slicker than heck and you can see the shooter having trouble crawling up the relatively low angle slope, and the slope in that lower 'tunnel' roof, where the officers apparently climbed up is far steeper, and I am not surprised that suddenly ducking down to avoid a rifle shot at 10-20 foot range would cause a loss of footing and a fall.
But #1 is correct, this encounter with police told the shooter that he was about to be shot by an officer, and he had to make his try in a big hurry. And I can tell you, in rifle shooting, hurrying at that range is going to greatly reduce your chance of hitting. Those officers probably saved Trump by preventing a very deliberate shot.
And as to the SS countersnipers....they may have been aware that officers were in that location and concerned about exactly who they were seeing....officer or bad guy, and trying to be certain not to shoot an officer....or some innocent fool climbing up for a look at the President without paying to get in. I am pretty sure that ROEs do not permit them to kill anyone that sticks a head over a building or wall, unless they see a weapon. And the rifle was probably laying flat on the reverse slope until just seconds before shooting.

Re #8, no, at that point the shooter was laying flat on the reverse side of the roof. And even if the countersnipers saw some movement, they cannot just kill any citizen who is climbing on a roof. They will need to see a weapon, I am pretty sure.
People are getting WAY carried away, and imaging that the cops can just shoot anyone and kill them on the slightest suspicion. And many forget that the guy was on the back side of a peaked roof, laying flat, and probably completely invisible to the Trump venue side until the last few seconds.

I still want to know how Crooks knew that that particular roof would be unguarded.
