The Taliban urged the West on Sunday to look past their treatment of Afghan women and girls to improve foreign relations, according to The Associated Press. The Taliban upholds certain religious, cultural values and public aspirations that “must be acknowledged” to facilitate bilateral progress rather than continue to get stuck in stalemates, said Chief Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid. Mujahid made his declaration on the first day of a meeting that took place this weekend in Qatar led by the United Nations aimed at improving relations with Afghanistan.

A San Antonio, Texas, homeowner armed with a shotgun killed an alleged intruder who reportedly lunged at him just before 1:00 a.m. Sunday.
CBS Austin reported that the alleged intruder came to the front door seeking entry to the home, and the homeowner told him to leave.
