Democratic senator Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.) is sponsoring legislation to tackle so-called shrinkflation, saying that corporations "prey on consumers" by stealthily shrinking the quantity of snacks, toilet paper, and other consumer products to pad their bottom line. Whitehouse also holds hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stock in those same corporations, according to a review of his portfolio.
In announcing his sponsorship of the Shrinkflation Prevention Act, Whitehouse cited a report from Senate Democrats that shames several alleged practitioners of shrinkflation, (snip) Whitehouse and his wife own between $303,000 and $910,000 in shares of the firms identified in the Senate report,

Recall that 3 years ago, this politician was a diversity advocate, while at the same time being a member of an exclusive "yacht club" that was greatly lacking in diversity. Do as I say, not as I do.

They need to work on getting rid of the moron who is causing the inflation by throwing money at everything that moves. Isn't it amazing that our electeds have such hefty bank accounts while earning around $200,000/year!

Sheldon, not the Sheldon for BBT, obviously hasn't a clue about running a business. Thanks to Dementia Joe's inflation, everything costs a lot more. Businesses don't eat their cost of goods sold. They are passed on to the consumer. And when marketing tells you that former large size Corn Flakes are not selling at $9/box, the corn flake producer will adjust and sell a smaller size that the consumer can afford. Same for McDonalds. Same for Wendy's. Etc. IOWs, this Sheldon is a boob.

Like Biden, and all democrats, he knows nothing about operating a retail business. He further doesn’t know that Biden’s inflation is causing all businesses to raise their prices. Idiot.

Shrinkflation has been going on for over seventy years, and now he says it’s a problem? Democrats are really stupid. Keep sizes the same and the price goes up. This jerk is calling for price controls, and we know how that works out. Stupid! Democrats cause the problem, and then they spend time trying to fix the bad outcome, instead of returning to the way it was before they changed things…like today’s inflation. This is a result of most Democrats never having had a real job and making a career of politics. I don’t know what world they live in.

I have been noticing this a lot lately, packaging stays the same size but the contents are less and less, and the price just goes higher, from ice cream, to protein bars to loafs bread.
I was almost out of bread, bought a new loaf at the store, and made a sandwich with the last piece from the old loaf and a piece from the new loaf, the new loaf of bread was easily one inch in diameter smaller than the previous.
We are getting screwed on both ends of Biden inflation.

OK Senator Jackwadhouse, pass a bill to force the companies to sell the same quantity in the package but to charge more to cover their increased cost due to Biden/democrat caused inflation at the wholesale level.

When the politicians ( congress/presidents ) of BOTH parties debase the currency with near limitless spending, THIS is exactly what happens.
Entities adjust to stay alive.

Fool doesn't know what he is doing, by outlawing shrinkflation he will make Bidenflation obvious to even Biden supporters.

Are those companies sneaking through our borders in an effort to cause a multi-city catastrophe?
More bread and circus to keep our minds off the filth in DC.

It is the US government that is preying on consumers. This is being done by government overspending and the Federal Reserve creating dollars out of thin air creating inflation. The companies are only responding. Sheldon Whitehouse has been senator since 2007 and is a large part of the problem and offers no solutions.

Whitehouse is another Ted Baxter come-to-life sort of characters. A pompous, obnoxious blowhard jerk who is also exceptionally stupid, literally dumber than a box of rocks.

As much as I don't like shrinkflation, I dislike meddling left-wing extremists like Whitehouse even more. Let the market respond to shrinkflation. Don't buy the product or buy it less frequently.
My local, well-known bakery shrank the size of it's cookies, and I remarked on it as I purchased a dozen. The response from the clerk behind the counter was some vague nonsense, "depends on the ingredients." I then sent an e-mail complaint, and got no response.
My favorite example of shrinkflation is Tillamook ice cream, which shrank the carton and charged the same price as before. I sent an e-mail complaint, and got a smarmy response..... but the unspoken bottom line was "we're gonna do what we're gonna do." I now buy Tillamook ice cream only when it's on sale at its lowest price. Still, I am paying more for less. Unfortunately, I am loyal to the brand.

The democrats invented shrinkflation to mask the actual inflation numbers caused by their war on oil and gas. A willing buyer and a willing seller is the basis of our free enterprise system. No legislation is needed, only far, far fewer democrats in any type of government office.

That's a huge spread, "between $303,000 and $910,000. Does he own $300k and she owns $900? I'm confused. But then, I'm not that invested with my six-figure way less than his six-figure salary.

Shrinkflation is a direct result of the COVID lockdowns. Businesses went bankrupt, supply chains messed with and government mandates. All that cost money. The current regime thinks that by making packages smaller the consumer won't notice but they have. Actions have consequences.

Shrinkflation is so bad, I went to the shoe store for some size 8 shoes. None fit had to buy size 9. I'm in my 60s, so no, my feet aren't growing.

I hate shrinkflation too but this goon is a much bigger danger to the nation. BTW, we occasionally buy candy and I noticed the Reese's peanut butter cups are getting smaller and smaller. Each cup is now just 0.75 oz. Cost works out to over $13/Lb.

#20 is correct. The Democrats are mainly trying to fool everyone with "Look, a squirrel." They've caused everything bad in this country, but still manage to keep their jobs.

OK, now that full box of cereal costs $12.50 instead of $8.50.
Happy now?
