Appeals court denies Steve Bannon’s
bid to avoid prison

An appeals court in Washington, D.C., denied Steve Bannon’s attempt to avoid prison Thursday. Bannon asked the federal appeals court earlier this month to delay his imminent prison sentence on contempt of Congress charges. The court denied his request, noting that his argument “does not a warrant a departure from the general rule.” In a 2-1 decision, the judges decided that a stay would not be warranted because Bannon’s argument does not bring up “a close question or one that very well could be decided the other way.”

I understand that if the current House voted to remove those Contempt of Congress charges against Mr Bannon and Mr Navarro (who is rotting in jail), the penalties would disappear. So where is (and why hasn't it happened) the bill, which had better get every Republican vote in Congress to pass?

FTA, "Bannon’s argument does not bring up “a close question or one that very well could be decided the other way.” Gee how about the question of why the DC courts adhere to tow tier Just-Us? What abut the question why only Rebublicans get charged and jailed for contempt of congress when Dem AGs never get charged after Congress finds them in contempt? The DC Court of Appalls is continuing an age old tradition of upholding a two tier Just us system. By taking Bannon's case they run the risk of exposes that tradition of accidentally adhering to the constitution.

Will the Supreme Court Affect the Debate? 4 replies

The Supreme Court announced that it was adding another opinion day to its schedule -- Wednesday, June 26th. Among the pending cases is United States v. Trump, in which the court must decide to what extent presidential immunity shields the president from criminal prosecution for actions taken while in office. While the content of the discussions during oral arguments are not a perfect indicator of how the court will rule, Scotus blog sat through oral argument and concluded the court is likely to side with Donald Trump to some degree:

During his Friday broadcast on HBO, apparently Bill Maher started to catch on to the issue of fake media polling. Maher questions how Biden could be losing big percentages of his core constituency (by demographic), yet suddenly be polling ahead of Trump. It just doesn’t make sense.Bill Maher: “45% of Hispanic voters prefer Biden, compared to 39% for Trump. Last time, he won 59%. That was 2020. So, he’s lost 14 points there. He went to Morehouse, he said, ‘What is democracy if you have to be ten times better than anyone else to get a fair shot?’

Most of the time Fox News builds in plausible deniability; however, this time the notorious Fox News pollster Daron Shaw has gone full bananas on behalf of those who pay him to create polling narratives. Daron Shaw should be well known to CTH readers {Go Deep}. Shaw has been the Fox News poll manipulator and narrative engineer for over a decade. Knowing the Trump v Biden debate was coming, we knew Fox News would arrange some anti-Trumpism media narrative to capitalize on the predictable corporate theme. However, to see the Fox team make “Threats To Democracy” the #1 concern of voters, is just a talking point too far.

The Washington Post said Friday that newly named editor Robert Winnett has decided not to take the job and remain in Britain instead, another upheaval at a news outlet where a reorganization plan has gone disastrously wrong. The Post’s CEO and publisher, Will Lewis, announced Winnett’s decision to withdraw in a note to staff on Friday morning, and said a recruitment firm would be hired to launch a search for a replacement immediately. The financially struggling Post had announced Winnett would take over as editor of the core newsroom functions after November’s presidential election,

South America is doing the world a favor at the moment, but you have to tune in to reap the benefits. Just as South and North Korea and West and East Germany became perfect Cold War laboratory experiments contrasting the blessings of democracy and capitalism with the destructive drudgery of communism, the reformist government in Argentina and the Marxist-led ones in Colombia and Brazil are inviting us to compare and contrast. Hint: You won’t have to do much research to see which system is still the best.

Maher says so many annoying things in this clip, but his basic thesis is correct. After every war, millions of people end up moving because of the impact of the wars they are in. More than any other group, the Jewish people have been moved, ethnically cleansed, and killed over the centuries. But the only people in the world who never stop complaining and insist on kicking out all of the Jews “from the river to the sea” are the Arabs in the Land of Israel. His point on Mexico is classic. And yes, Maher is right – the Jewish people are here to stay.

Considering how much attention the American media get, it’s amazing that one piece of actual, unbelievable subversion keeps going on. That is the Al Jazeera network — founded, funded and directed by the terrorist-supporting state of Qatar. Last month, The Washington Post reported darkly that the Israeli government had shut down the Al Jazeera network’s operations in Israel because of its coverage from Gaza. WaPo portrayed this as a “dark day” for press freedom. In fact, there were a lot of good reasons for the Israelis to stop the network from operating inside Israel.

Recently, the entire media and public sphere exploded after some results surfaced regarding the ongoing EU Parliament elections, which saw the election of many nationalists and conservatives. If we separate the wheat from the chaff, in the end the results are quite clear: there are much more seats taken by conservative or right-leaning groups and a lot of seats lost by left-leaning representatives. Let’s look just at the preliminary numbers in regards to the EU as a whole: as of the writing of this article, the Renew Europe political group, which aligns itself, according to their website, with liberal democratic values and against “autocrats,” has lost 22 seats in the Parliament.

California has become a test case of the suicide of the West. Never before has such a state, so rich in natural resources and endowed with such a bountiful human inheritance, self-destructed so rapidly. How and why did California so utterly consume its unmatched natural and ancestral inheritance and end up as a warning to Western civilization of what might be in store for anyone who followed its nihilism? The symptoms of the state’s suicide are indisputable. Governor Gavin Newsom enjoyed a recent $98 billion budget surplus—gifted from multibillion-dollar federal COVID-19 subsidies, the highest income and gas taxes in the nation, and among the country’s steepest sales and property taxes.

The Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss a challenge to the abortion pill mifepristone means the drug’s future is now firmly tied to the 2024 presidential election. Anti-abortion groups said they were dealt only a temporary setback by last week’s ruling and are planning the path forward on how best to restrict access or get the drug removed from the market completely. The court left the door open to other legal challenges, including from a trio of red states in front of the same Trump-appointed federal judge who initially suspended mifepristone’s approval in 2023.

The Biden administration announced Tuesday it will be following through on plans to bar medical debt from being included on credit scores. “One of the most significant consequences of carrying medical debt is the harm it does to a person’s credit score,” Vice President Harris said in a press briefing. “Medical debt makes it more difficult for millions of Americans to be approved for a car loan, a home loan or a small business loans. All of which in turn makes it more difficult to just get by much less get ahead. And that is simply not fair.”

The Wall Street Journal reports that corporate America is backpedaling away from “diversity”: White-collar companies that once championed programs to recruit diverse employees are now tiptoeing away from them. PricewaterhouseCoopers and JPMorgan Chase are among those that recently removed or altered descriptions of their programs for underrepresented students. The shift came after an “anti-woke” movement took aim at U.S. companies and a Supreme Court decision overturned affirmative action in college admissions. Employers’ embrace of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives peaked in 2021, sparked by the death of George Floyd and the height of the Black Lives Matter movement a year earlier

As we previously reported, Joe Biden is taking a whole week off from being president to prepare for his upcoming debate with Donald Trump. The debate, which will be hosted by CNN, will take place on Thursday—assuming Joe Biden shows up. So far, nothing, not even Trump's conviction in the sham trial in New York City, has managed to give Biden the boost he needs to be ahead in the race, and the Biden campaign is clearly aware that this is a make-or-break moment for the Biden campaign. Earlier this week, CBS senior White House correspondent Weijia Jiang raised some eyebrows when she explained to Robert Costa,

The 1951 J.D. Salinger novel The Catcher in the Rye has long been one of the most controversial literary tomes, inspiring films and criminal conspiracies. John Lennon’s murderer, Marc David Chapman, carried the book at the murder and continued reading it while Lennon lay bleeding at his feet. He has said that he wished to model his life after the novel's protagonist, Holden Caulfield, identifying with Holden’s misanthropic world view. John Hinckley, after his attack on President Ronald Reagan, was found to have a copy of Rye, but the book did not have anything to do with his psychosis.
