BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana has become the first state to require that the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public school classroom under a bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Jeff Landry on Wednesday.
The GOP-drafted legislation mandates that a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments in “large, easily readable font” be required in all public classrooms, from kindergarten to state-funded universities. Although the bill did not receive final approval from Landry, the time for gubernatorial action — to sign or veto the bill — has lapsed.
Opponents question the law’s constitutionality, warning that lawsuits are likely to follow.

Supporters of the climate-activism organization Just Stop Oil sprayed paint on World Heritage Site Stonehenge and were arrested on Wednesday, just before thousands are expected to visit the historic structures for the summer solstice.
“Today’s action has come days after the Labour party’s manifesto has recommitted them to stopping all future licences for new oil and gas, should they form the next government,” reads a statement by Just Stop Oil. The United Kingdom will hold a general election on July 4, 2024.
Niamh Lynch, a 21-year-old undergraduate student at Oxford University, and Rajan Naidu, 73, began spraying orange powder paint on Stonehenge around noon,

So, this is all just kind of fun speculation, mind you. Brought on, of course, not by my twisted imagination - even I have my limits - but by a convergence of events and signs from the Heavens.
First, what was that rumble from the turgid bowels of the WaPo?
Was Taylor Lorenz hacking up another hairball?
Gads, no.
It's someone once mistaken for a respected columnist. And what she had to say was shocking in the extreme...but, oh, so tempting...
Democrats are wrestling with an age-old problem
Maybe Hillary Clinton could come to the rescue. DON'T PLAY WITH THEIR EMOTIONS THAT WAY
And then she does, logically and coldly setting up the scenario

There were congressional primaries in Virginia and Oklahoma on Tuesday, along with runoff elections for several Georgia House seats. Results are still coming in for some of the Virginia House seats, but in the Senate, Republican Hung Cao has won the primary and will face off against incumbent Democrat Senator Tim Kaine in November. Former President Trump endorsed Cao last month, writing on Truth Social, "A Combat Veteran and Highly Decorated Special Operations Officer, Hung Cao will be a tireless fighter to stop inflation, grow our Economy, secure our Border, strong support our incredible Military/Vets, and defend our always under siege Second Amendment."

Mere hours after it went viral that French courts had banned Israelis from the defense show Eurosatory, they have rescinded the ban. It's understandable, considering the shameful information about the ban that surfaced, but it's somewhat surprising to see someone actually backtrack their antisemitism. Let's be clear, though — France is no hero. There are obvious benefits for them in rescinding the ban. It was hardly a show without the 74 Israeli companies or affiliates that had been disinvited.
In fact, immediately after the ban garnered international attention, people started to call out the hypocrisy, considering Israeli technology was among some of the main attractions in the exhibition.

Over one thousand humanitarian aid trucks languished on the Gazan side of the Kerem Shalom border crossing, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Monday, adding that UN officials claimed that looting of trucks made the distribution of the aid too dangerous.
On Sunday, Israel announced a “tactical pause of military activity” along the road stretching from the Kerem Shalom crossing to the Salah al-Din Road before continuing north.
The IDF noted that the pause, which took place from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time, was part of a joint effort with the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) to increase the amount of humanitarian aid going into Gaza.

Earlier this month, someone set a police SUV on fire at UC Berkeley. An anonymous statement taking credit was posted on a site called Abolition Media. It reads in part:
This act was done in retaliation against UCPD, for their attack on students yesterday on a different campus and to retaliate against the University of California for its support for the zionist israel settler colony. More specifically – this attempt to torch a police car in front of the university was in solidarity with our Palestinian siblings assaulted by the zionist state in Rafah. It came from a place of love for Palestine, and love for revolution and liberation

WASHINGTON – The House Ethics Committee said Tuesday that it's expanding its investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz, R.-Fla., to include “additional allegations” that the Florida lawmaker sought to obstruct the probe as the panel looks into accusations of sexual misconduct, illicit drug use and more.
In a statement, the Committee said it had difficulty obtaining information from Gaetz during the course of its 3-year investigation. It added that the officials reviewing the case have issued “25 subpoenas and reviewed thousands of pages of documents,” related to misconduct accusations.
The probe into the Florida lawmaker has been ongoing since April 2021. The ethics committee is looking into a variety of claims

An independent scientist and accomplished businessman delivered testimony before the Senate Tuesday morning going into detail on why he believes the coronavirus originated from a lab in Wuhan, China.
Dr. Steven Quay, a scientist who authored a widely viewed Bayesian analysis concluding that the virus originated from a lab, testified before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and read a detailed opening statement dissecting the data backing up his belief that the virus came from the Wuhan lab.
Quay, who has a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and was on the faculty at the Stanford University School of Medicine, described “six approaches”

Top supporters of President Biden are fighting back against reports and polling numbers that show Donald Trump drawing unprecedented interest from black voters.
It’s a desperate attempt to quell panic not seen since a violinist named Wallace Hartley convinced his 8-man band to keep playing orchestral music on the Titanic.
Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), whose endorsement of Biden prior to the South Carolina primary in 2020 is widely seen as a turning point in the former vice president’s campaign by securing black support in that state, is in full denial, saying “Something is amiss with the polling.”

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, having solved all other problems afflicting the Windy City, has turned his attention to the most pressing issue his office has ever faced. Namely, reparations. On June 17, 2024, Johnson authorized spending $500K to study the matter.
Ahead of Juneteenth, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed Executive Order 2024-1, establishing a Reparations Task Force to develop a Black Reparations Agenda. This Task Force is an example of the Administration’s dedication to co-governance, and in partnership with members of the Aldermanic Black Caucus, the Mayor’s offices of Equity and Racial Justice and Business, Economic and Neighborhood Development, and other key City departments

Right-wing populist politicians should be “eradicated”, a leading member of the far-left New Popular Front election alliance in France said in a supposed slip of the tongue.
Clémentine Autain has come under criticism for appearing to suggest on national television in France a preference for violence against right-wing populist politicians for Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN) party. “If we could eradicate them all that would be great,” she said on broadcaster LCI as reported by the Entrevue magazine while stressing the need for a majority in the National Assembly for the leftist New Popular Front, comprised of her own leftist La France Insoumise (LFI) party, the Socialists, the green Écologistes,
