During breaks from his deployments in the Afghanistan war, Craig turned to smoking cannabis to alleviate stress, just as he had done as a teenager. However, one evening, things took a turn when he barricaded himself and his two young daughters in the master bedroom. “He thought the house was surrounded by terrorists,” Jennifer Thomas, the girls’ mother, recounted (snip) Military police took Craig to a psychiatric hospital, where he was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 26. Story continues below advertisement Craig’s story is one among an increasing number of cases, primarily involving men, where cannabis use has contributed to a schizophrenia diagnosis occurring in one’s 20s.

Not surprising. Young brains are changing massively year by year, and putting some garbage like this into this delicate system is likely to mess it up. This "legalization" idea is a hideous, horrible mistake. It will enrich some, and cripple many. A very bad idea.

Onset of schizophrenia in men in their early 20s is more common than people think. We were watching this trend over 20 years ago when marijuana was not as potent. There was no obvious connection to marijuana use.

Poster #3 is quite correct. Schizophrenia most commonly doesn't begin to show up until the late teens or early twenties, cannabis or no cannabis. While I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that the drug indeed causes psychosis, the study, at least as presented, suffers from a "chicken or egg" weakness: does the cannabis cause an increase in schizophrenia, or is there something about the schizophrenic or pre-schizophrenic brain that leads the sufferer to attempt self-medication with illicit drugs?

Re #5, excellent point. In any "correlation analysis" the key is identifying the correct direction of the causality "arrow". Yes, if A is accurately correlated with B, then the next question is which way the causality arrow points. Does A cause B or does B cause A? Sometimes it is obvious, many times it is not obvious. And your point is excellent.....do schizos seek out drugs because their brain is messed up? Or does taking drugs mess up your brain?

It’s my understanding from earlier articles that the potency of THC has gone up by 800% since the 80s. This would be a result of marijuana growers selective breeding to increase the potency, and I guess increase sales. I spoke recently with a friend who is about my age or late 50s who was in recently the Netherlands and he and his wife decided to smoke a joint. He said they both got so paranoid that they had to go back to their room till it wore off. He never had that problem when he was younger. I have no doubt that this article is absolutely correct. I too, have a close family member that got very heavily involved in weed in his teenage years. He’s a complete wreck today.

I know of two retired military noncoms who temporarily "LOST IT" while trying delta 8 gummies. These guys are full fledged middle aged adults. Nothing young about them, battle hardened dudes. Both of these guys IMMEDIATELY put that stuff down and haven't touched any cannabis products since. They saw where they were headed and didn't want to go there. One needn't be young with the new variations of weed. This stuff is seriously dangerous to anyone who uses it.

The high potency stuff smells like skunk. The pot of the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's didn't smell like that. I was of the opinion that it should be legal until they changed it to the skunk smelling stuff. I'm done. Ban it.

High-potency or not, cannabis is considered a gateway to harder drugs. Large doses can cause confusion, hallucinations, paranoia and difficulty for the body to fight illnesses. Marijuana, when smoked, contains more than 2,000 chemicals that can stay in a body for up to a month; marijuana can harm the heart, lungs, brain, sex organs and can lead to asthma, memory loss, cause panic attacks, lung damage, brain damage, slowed reaction time, change in sex drive, a central nervous system (CNS) depressant effect, death due to impaired driving, false beliefs, unfounded fear or distrust, decreased immunity to illnesses, lack of energy and motivation, loss of interest in activities/work/school, difficulty concentrating/learning, contains more cancer-causing agents than cigarettes and can be come addictive.

What a stink. It was snuck in there , no one knew such a facility was coming until the building started, we fought it and lost. I urge anyone who has one being built close to them to fight it hard. The position of Hungary in the Ukraine vs Russia conflict has been consistently pragmatic. Ukraine is NOT a NATO country, and when the USA essentially demanded that all NATO member states join in a unified mission against Russia, to promote the specific interests of the United States, it never made sense. Hungary has maintained a consistent position that NATO is a defensive partnership that should not seek conflict and war outside its member state boundaries.
