Portland's progressive District Attorney Mike Schmidt has conceded victory to a tough-on-crime challenger after his policies were blamed for ruining the city. Schmidt, who is the prosecutor for Multnomah County, which covers the Oregon city, conceded the race to Nathan Vasquez shortly after 7pm ET Wednesday. Voter counts are ongoing, but Vasquez has secured around 54 percent of votes, with Schmidt trailing well behind on 45 percent. The Soros-backed progressive was elected with 77 percent of the vote in 2020 after touting a host of 'equity'-focused policies, in a county that has not voted for a Republican president since 1960.

#2, the latest I checked was 54-46 for Vasquez. 46 desired to have Portland, OR remain a crime-ridden city with a Soros backed DA. They have gone bananas and it demonstrates the lawlessness that exists. It was a nice city now it'll take a long time to repair. When the weather gets better expect the 46 to burn and loot wearing masks.

It is so sad to read about beautiful cities in the USA being ruined. I mentioned yesterday in another article about a show I saw in the 70's (?) titled Shazam. At the end of one show, the commentator made the statement "we rent everything from God" and these cities come to mind. I always try to return things in better condition than I received. Our beautiful cities come to mind and I sure wish they could be beautiful again. . .

Certainly the "no prosecute prosecutor" helped ruin the city, but Portland seems to have been a sewer of leftist insanity for a long time before he showed up. I'd say he was just the latest and most obvious symptom of a deep, terrible rot in the guts of Portland.

Yet another Republican U.S. senator has caught former President Donald Trump's eye as he searches for a ticketmate to replace former Vice President Mike Pence. The New York Times reported Friday that Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton has jumped to the top of Trump's list. The 47-year-old Arkansas Republican was elected to the Senate in 2014 after serving tours in Iraq and Afghanistan with the U.S. Army. The pick of Cotton would be unexpected because it would be bland. Cotton joins other veepstakes contenders from the upper chamber including Sens. Marco Rubio, Tim Scott and J.D. Vance.

After a recent summit between new partners China and Russia, General Secretary Xi Jinping and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin issued an odd one-sentence communique: "There can be no winners in a nuclear war and it should never be fought." No one would disagree, even though several officials of both hypocritical governments have previously threatened their neighbors with nuclear attacks. But still, why did the two feel the need to issue such a terse statement -- and why now? Rarely has the global rhetoric of mass annihilation reached such a crescendo as the present, as existential wars rage in Ukraine and Gaza. In particular, Putin at least believes that he is finally winning

Washington— As he tries to secure his legacy, President Joe Biden has unleashed a flurry of election year rules on the environment and other topics, including a landmark regulation that would force coal-fired power plants to capture smokestack emissions or shut down. The limits on greenhouse gas emissions from fossil-fueled electric stations are the Democratic president’s most ambitious effort yet to roll back planet-warming pollution from the power sector, the nation’s second-largest contributor to climate change. The power plant rule is among more than 60 regulations Biden and his administration finalized last month to meet his policy goals, including a promise to cut carbon emissions that are driving climate change
