Portland's progressive District Attorney Mike Schmidt has conceded victory to a tough-on-crime challenger after his policies were blamed for ruining the city.
Schmidt, who is the prosecutor for Multnomah County, which covers the Oregon city, conceded the race to Nathan Vasquez shortly after 7pm ET Wednesday.
Voter counts are ongoing, but Vasquez has secured around 54 percent of votes, with Schmidt trailing well behind on 45 percent. The Soros-backed progressive was elected with 77 percent of the vote in 2020 after touting a host of 'equity'-focused policies, in a county that has not voted for a Republican president since 1960.

Schmidt was a lousy DA because he followed the orders of George Soros, a bad guy. Good riddance.

It's a good sign Vasqeuz won. But 45% still voted for squalor, more murders, and open-air drug dens.

3, shrug, they get what they vote for. I live thousands of miles away. Not my problem. In fact they provide a magnet for people I don't want voting in my state to draw them away and concentrate all the stupid in one place.
Fence it, toss the key, done.

#2, the latest I checked was 54-46 for Vasquez. 46 desired to have Portland, OR remain a crime-ridden city with a Soros backed DA. They have gone bananas and it demonstrates the lawlessness that exists. It was a nice city now it'll take a long time to repair. When the weather gets better expect the 46 to burn and loot wearing masks.

I saw an article yesterday that reported a movement for many counties in Oregon to secede from the state and become part of Idaho because of the insanity perpetrated by wackos in Portland and other leftist bastions.

So the leftist white guy is defeated by a more conservative (registered as a Republican until 2017, then independent) Latino POC descendant of Guatemalan immigrants. Me thinks this upends a few narratives.

It is so sad to read about beautiful cities in the USA being ruined. I mentioned yesterday in another article about a show I saw in the 70's (?) titled Shazam. At the end of one show, the commentator made the statement "we rent everything from God" and these cities come to mind. I always try to return things in better condition than I received. Our beautiful cities come to mind and I sure wish they could be beautiful again. . .

Certainly the "no prosecute prosecutor" helped ruin the city, but Portland seems to have been a sewer of leftist insanity for a long time before he showed up.
I'd say he was just the latest and most obvious symptom of a deep, terrible rot in the guts of Portland.

Portland sank further into the abyss of insanity during the madness that began in 2020 using the suicide of George Floyd as an excuse. They have a lot of recovery time ahead of them.

I live 4 miles from a Portland and have lived in PDX in the past. Schmidt was the final nail in Portland's coffin. It was declining prior to him. PDX got its comuppance with him. Good luck to the new DA. PDX has more to do.

I know a couple who moved from central Virginia to Portland to be near their kids and grandkids. They’re libs of the pre-1990’s type. They lasted less than a year before moving back to the Shenandoah Valley.
