Many Republicans will be shocked to learn that Election Day 2024 happens long before Nov. 5. In fact, it hurts the Republican cause – and the elections of President Donald Trump and House and Senate Republicans – to focus narrowly on Nov. 5. The first election dates are Sept. 16 in Pennsylvania and then Sept. 20 in Minnesota and South Dakota. The next election days are Sept. 23 in Mississippi, and Sept. 24 in Missouri. There are 43 other states and the District of Columbia that follow with their early voting dates. Only Alabama and New Hampshire do not have early voting.

Even for those of us who have long been critics of the “hush money” case against Donald Trump and its dubious legal theory, it has been surprising to see that the prosecutors had no more evidence than we previously knew about.
The assumption was that no rational prosecutor would base a major criminal case almost entirely on the testimony of Michael Cohen, who was recently denounced by a judge as a serial perjurer peddling “perverse” theories in court.
The calculus of Alvin Bragg is now obvious. He is counting on the jury convicting Trump regardless of the evidence.

About what you’re about to read, it won’t be a statistical or scientific argument supporting or disdaining the theory that is global warming. No such skills exist to make either, but even if they did exist, the view here is that statistical arguments about anything involving personal freedom are loser arguments. Think back to the spring of 2020 and the coronavirus to see why.
Last week, something all too rare occurred: The House of Representatives passed excellent legislation with a broad bipartisan majority.
The Antisemitism Awareness Act, which Republicans backed 187-21 and Democrats 133-70, does far more than provide a critical tool in the fight against surging antisemitism. It’s a model of excellence in the fight against DEI and ESG, wokeism in general, the overreaching administrative state, and the erosion of free speech rights.
That’s why it’s surprising and disappointing to see opposition arising not only from antisemites – from whom it was expected – but from politicians, scholars, and pundits who normally side with freedom. Many of their critiques rail against a straw man:

Actress Jennifer Lawrence taunted former Vice President Mike Pence, calling him a closeted gay man at GLAAD’s (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) annual Media Awards event in New York City Saturday.
The show started Saturday with a bit of disruption, as one invited guest had to be escorted out of the venue after standing up and yelling about how GLAAD is “complicit in genocide” over the situation in Gaza. Here's something that the Washington Post's Allyson Chiu may not know: When the temps outside drop to -32 (good American Fahrenheit, not commie Celsius), even with an oil burner, baseboard electric heater, and the wood stove going, the house gets chilly. So, despite Ms. Chiu's recommendations, I'm not taking a cold shower to save the planet - not now, not in the middle of winter, not anytime. But that isn't the only thing she thinks we should do to reduce hot water usage.

I always thought “ironclad” meant binding, but to President Biden it apparently means a pledge that’s good until it becomes politically inconvenient to stick to it. On at least two occasions he asserted his (and our) commitment to Israel’s defense was “ironclad”: “On July 18, 2023, seated beside Mr. Herzog. “And as I affirmed to Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu yesterday, America’s commitment to Israel is firm.
