Remington hasn't made guns in Ilion for a couple of years now. All of their machinery was taken south by the people who bought them out. It's just taken this long to close the plant. The northeast has lost all of their gun manufacturers except for Colt; they're still in Connecticut. Their guns sell for a couple of hundred bucks more than comparable models made by other companies, and they're not as good - old machinery and union labor, you see, along with the inevitable high taxes and antibusiness environment of blue states.

At one time, New York was friendly to manufacturing businesses, and also to gun manufacturers. Gun makesr are NOT welcome, and most manufacturing is also not welcome in this Commie, destructive Welfare State.

There are only about 300 employees left in Ilion...but they still equate to the village's largest employer. United Mine Workers is the Union at the (former) plant. The company and it's merged subsidiaries have been broken up several times, Marlin's plants in Conn. are also being closed and moved south. Yet the federal govt already owns several of Rems largest plants that are money makers, it's ammunition operations. Remington merely "Manages" them.(Fascism)

Re #4, Marlin was moved about 10-12 years ago to Remington, and now all of Marlin was moved from Remington to Ruger in a new plant in North Carolina, and high quality Ruger made Marlins are on the market again, been available now for at least most of a year. Gun makers have almost entirely abandoned the high tax, high union wages areas of New England for the SE and midwest. All of the ammo plants are now in the midwest and south. Hilariously, if the Left wants to start Civil War 2.0, the tables will be exactly turned, now the North has no gun making or ammo making capabilities, and the South has it all - just the opposite of the first time this was tried. The northeastern states are pretty much a rustbelt these days for most manufacturing. A few old line makers still hold on, some tool makers in Ohio and such, but most of all manufacturing has been driven south by unions and taxes, general anti-business climate. Gun makers also had the "we hate you" from the populace at large, but when they move to the midwest and south, people FLOCK to work there because they are hunters and shooters and LOVE to be associated with their favorite companies. I spit in the direction of the NE. I haven't been north of Maryland in many years, save a couple of plane changes at JFK airport 15 years ago. I don't plan to ever go there again. Nasty people, terrible places, and in most of them my Constitutional Right to be armed it blocked, illegally, but they still do it.

Smith & Wesson recently moved its headquarters and most of its manufacturing from Massachusetts to Maryville, Tennessee, a bit north of the Great Smoky Mountains NP. These hoplophobe states are going to lose all of their firearm production, plus the jobs. Alabama, Tennessee, and other states that honor the Constitution are the beneficiaries. Businesses go where they are treated with respect. Blue states aren't good for business.

From all I've read in the last few years, if you want the best (for the money) home defense shotgun, reviewers who have shot nearly all of what's available prefer the Mossberg 500 series. Well made and reliable. The Remington 12 gauge shotguns aren't bad by any means, but people who know prefer the Mossbergs. Me? I would want Ricardo Tubbs's sawed off 12 gauge Ithaca Model 37 (from Miami Vice) with the vertical forward grip and the slam fire. Cool! Not efficient, but awesome. Of course, that shotgun's been outlawed, but unconstitutional laws can be changed in an instant.

Re #11, look up the Serbu Super Shorty. IIRC, it transfers as an NFA firearm, but is classified as an "AOW", and that is, again, from memory, only a $5 transfer tax. I visited Serbu years ago, and handled one....cool, but IMO, not terribly practical. But...if really want one. He primarily makes .50 BMG rifles, but this was a side gig. Not sure if he still makes them now that Remington has become.....a mess, and probably hard to buy the guns from the factory in a partial condition that he probably was buying them. May not be available now, not sure.

I’ve been a Disney fan my whole life. (snip) A newly released report (which I've embedded at the end of this column) of the first comprehensive audit of Disney and RCID shows the scope of Disney’s power and influence and how the company used RCID to benefit itself with little to no concern for the region as a whole. The report clocks in at a whopping 72 pages, along with a table of contents. I’ve read it all, and the following is my summary of Disney’s shocking power and how it used that level of control to line its pockets and avoid accountability.

The liberal crazies, from actor Rob Reiner to the once conservative but now ideologue-for-sale Joe Scarborough, have their knickers in a knot over the potential that America may drift into “fascism” upon the possible election of former President Donald Trump in 2024. How deliciously ironic that these leftists express concern over phantom fascism in the future as they look the other way while their Grand Poobah, President Joe Biden , is laying out a clinic on fascist tactics. This is the same Biden administration that has actually brought criminal charges against its political enemies. Trump never did so, even though he had ample opportunity and justification against Hillary Clinton.

The 1st U.S. District Court of Appeals upheld Florida’s congressional map on Friday, reversing a prior court's ruling over concerns that the map violated racial representation requirements as outlined in Florida law. The previous ruling claimed that the congressional map reduces the ability of black voters to pick a representative in northern Florida. However, the appeals court determined the ruling had placed a “racial segregation mandate” into the Florida Constitution that did not exist. “The constitution cannot demand that all voters are treated equally without regard to race and at the same time demand that voters are treated differently based on race,” the ruling said.
