Biden’s Department of Justice has slapped a whopping $700,000 fine on Covenant Transport Inc. and the affiliated Transport Management Services LLC, both stellar examples of Tennessee’s robust transportation sector.
The recent decision by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to impose a $700,000 fine on Covenant Transport Inc., a Christian trucking company based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, raises significant concerns about the overreach of federal power and the disregard for the realities faced by businesses in regulating their workforce.
The DOJ, under Joe Biden’s regime, claims this measure is to resolve alleged violations of the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) by Covenant and its affiliated entity, Transport Management Services LLC.

Fined $700,000 because they wanted to make sure they were incompliance with the law?
It is against the law to employ illegal immigrants, you can be subject to an I-9 audit, fines up up to $10,000 per illegal employee and if found employing 10 or more can get you 10 years in prison.
With this fine the US government is saying to companies commit felonies or we will fine you out of business!

It is illegal to hire illegals. And the company would have huge liability exposures if an illegal driver should be involved in an accident. Stealing ss numbers, or using a made up ss number is also illegal, and the company will get a letter from the SSA to correct any discrepancies within a short period.

Hypothetical question: If this was a secular trucking company would they have been slapped with the same fine or any fine at all? Asking for a friend.....; the current DOJ seems h*llbent on making life difficult for Christians.

Looks like there's a contradiction in law. Damned if you hire an illegal alien. Damned if you don't because they have documentation (not necessarily all of it).
Get ready for more trucking accidents involving illegal aliens.

Hmm. FOLLOWING the law to not hire ILLEGAL aliens is LEGAL. Don't pay, and file a lawsuit.

I'm so old I can remember when the feds required us to obtain proof of citizenship before hiring any employee.

Just throw this incident onto the heap of impeachable offences of the Biden regime - he will never face earthly justice. Unfortunately I think we're getting beyond the capability of "legal" means to rescue the "Nation of laws, not men" from corruption.

Lose/lose. Get fined for hiring illegals. Check their status and get fined for that too. Somebody at DOJ enjoys jerking Christians around. Or one of Covenant's competitors has influence in the government.

The Department of Jackals strikes again. It's illegal to hire illegals until it's illegal to not hire illegals. That seems to be whenever the Dept. Of Jackals decides. The United States of America exists in name only. The heart has been ripped out of the Constitution. When will this end?

I must have missed something. I've had to jump through hoops to prove my citizenship for every job I've ever had. Thats despite being as white as a snowman and speaking with a midwestern accent with some southwest mixed in.

So..... what became of the great E-Verify program that the Feds ballyhooed so much, a few years ago?

I can think of few better reasons to just shut down the company and 'go galt' than this travesty.

I suspect the problem is because it is a Christian company. Bidet doesn't like Christians, he has made that plain as day.
"E-Verify is a United States Department of Homeland Security website that allows businesses to determine the eligibility of their employees, both U.S. and foreign citizens, to work in the United States. " Wikipedia
Conversely "Federal law allows WORKERS to choose which valid, legally acceptable documentation to present" & "Employers MUST allow workers to present whatever acceptable documentation the workers choose and CANNOT reject valid documentation that REASONABLY APPEARS to be genuine and to relate to the worker."
So if employers hire illegals they get in trouble BUT if they don't they also get into trouble. Talk about oxymoronic.
