Disney's newest animated film, "Wish," fell short of expectations during its opening weekend, following a year-long pattern of box office fizzles for the company celebrating its centennial of movie-making.
"Wish" took in $19.5 million in box office sales during its Thanksgiving weekend debut, with $31.8 million earned over the 5-day period, domestically. The film was expected to earn between $45-$55 million its opening weekend, CNBC reported. (snip) The Disney film followed five other theatrical releases from the studio in 2023 that have failed to attract audiences like in years past.

Disney executives are high fiving each other because their mission is no longer to entertain their audience and thus make a profit, but rather to push the LGBT agenda.

It is not simply that Disney is 'woke' or has lost its mojo. It is much worse. Disney has lost its automatic box office reputation which once preceded any word of mouth advertising and enhanced box office sales from day one. On the contrary, Disney films now are expected to be busts and few of us want to be the guinea pigs who are willing to risk wasting time and money while ending up regretting our purchase. I am not sure Disney can ever recapture the magic.

Instead of going to see Wish, I have been watching the reviews. Haven’t
seen one yet that didn’t say it was a flop. Popcorn helps!

All I saw was that the heroine is, of course, a person of color. Disney spent 5 years producing this?

no sense to bother forking out for expensive theater tickets and concessions when you can just wait for it to be released on the streaming platform where the entire family can watch it for the $10 monthly subscription fee.

I doubt very many people want to sit and watch a Disney infomercial. No matter how good the animation is. Disney is pretty much a lost cause.

"Over at our place, we’re sure of just one thing: everybody in the world was once a child.
So in planning a new picture, we don’t think of grown-ups, and we don’t think of children, but just of that fine, clean, unspoiled spot down deep in every one of us that maybe the world has made us forget and that maybe our pictures can help recall.”

Disney is really living their new mission as stated in their latest statements to investors. Social issues and Social Justice might just take precedence over profit. The Disney Board of Directors and Executive Management Team is ignoring their fiduciary responsibility to their investors to be fiscally responsible and get a good return on their investment (make a profit!). They should all be removed by the stockholders in a stockholder revolt!

I took my grandchildren to see Dreamwork’s Trolls: Last Band whatever. What a cluster. And gay flags and rainbow color schemes for hair, walls, clouds and outfits were thrown in for no good reason although we all know why. It was so horrid and overstimulating that I thought it might make a good replacement for waterboarding at Gitmo and L’worth. But no racial overtones. Apparently accusations of racism can be quelled when you draw animated purple, pink, yellow, orange, green and blue skinned toy trolls, who also look like they were knitted, in place of humans. Clever. Well, okay. Weird and stupid.

Read on another site that Disney has only had ONE movie turn a profit this year (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) out of 13 released and the company will lose $750 million.

Even those few who are not repulsed and disgusted by the content of recent Disney movies, I hear that taking the family to a theater these days can be a hundred-dollar event. In the Biden economy that's a non-starter for most people, even if they accidentally release a good movie.
