Two years ago, my colleague Joe Cunningham wrote about the beautiful ad that Chevrolet did for Christmas with a man who is sad at the holidays because his wife has died. The daughter then lovingly has the wife's car -- which is under wraps in the barn, unused for a while -- restored, unbeknownst to the father, to surprise him and bring back those memories of the love of his wife he so misses. “It’s what mom would’ve wanted,” the daughter says.
It was a wonderful ad, at a time during the pandemic when we'd been through so much with lockdowns and a change in society and the White House,

It was like the previous one, where the children restored widower dad's 1966 Impala, with an old picture of his wife hanging on the rearview. That one made my eyes water every time I saw it, more so now since my wife and I are entering the "golden years" era. Both commercials very well done.

That was the most offensive ad I have ever seen. First, not one single protected quota! There were no rainbows or another inclusive character or symbol of homosexuals, lesbians, trannies and others. And they used 2010 pronouns!!!! All those 'him' and 'her' as if there were only 2 genders. Shocking. And the worse, a white male that was competent, loving and capable. Not the usual ad clown or behind his protected quota spouse and kids simpleton. Its as if Chevy wanted to advertise to 90+% of the US populations. Certainly no Diversity, Inclusion or Equality there! Glad the dealerships are open on Black Friday so I can go out and buy a new Suburban (also an offensive name).

Lovely, and a reminder to not leave out the memory-impaired during the holidays. They’re in there somewhere, you just have to catch the moment.

Is this a way to sell cars? Yeah, if only new Chevys were built like the '72 Suburban. By they way, no tears here, since that's not how Alzheimer's works. Again, liberalism mixes fiction into reality. Next year Granny will be shown protesting, while Grandad glues himself to the Courthouse steps in Saginaw protesting global oil production as video-vignette flashbacks to their hippie days at Woodstock are played.... so formulaic.

The granddaughter that saves the day...sexually ambiguous, neo-hippie with bell bottoms, but not even a SINGLE EV included,

It's a stunning piece of work, and absolutely beautiful. But I have mixed feelings.
I've been responsible/caring for my mother for more than three years as she is deeply in dementia, but otherwise in very good health now at age 94. It's an emotional and physical struggle for me as I feel pulled into such a dark hole where every day is Groundhog Day. She lives in a small memory care section in a nice facility as one of fifteen, and I am with her for several hours during dinner/sundowning time and afterwards. It's so depressing observing the others who manifest their unique behaviors related to this horrible condition, knowing none of them will ever get better.
I wish taking her to see familiar places would draw her out, as the ad shows, but I know it is fantasy of false hopes. It doesn't work that way. I'd love to know what went into the conception and creation of this piece. Was it done of good heart? What were the intentions? I can enjoy a little wallowing in a heartfelt visual journey, and do find momentary joy in it, but I also see where the company is, in a way, manipulating emotions.

One good ad can not erase the years of government controlled behavior and the buy-in to the EV fantasy being practiced by GM and the rest of Detroit. Chevy, Ford and that other naughty kid that just recalled 32,000 Jeeps that are prone to spontaneous combustion don't realize it yet but they will all soon be history. I hope all you union drones enjoy your raises because your future lies in fast food not cars.

My Mom had dementia and was generally upbeat and talkative when we visited the nursing home, she just didn't have a clue who my sibling and I were. Most of her chatter made no sense at all. There was nothing we could have done to make her snap out of it. It really doesn't work that way.

The boiled an entire lifetime down to the essence. Who ever these creative people are, they get it. I'm no fan of Chevrolet products, but they made one of the finest ever commercials. Well done!

Alzheimer's took my mom two years before she died. I had to watch the video away from all of the family gathered at my house. To say it was very moving would be an understatement. God Bless the folks who made this and forgive those who must broadcast their cynicism.

#6 is correct. Truth does lie in jest. Maybe this commercial is a fantasy of what America is/was. However, for a few brief moments in time it distracts us for the daily parade of stories of hate, envy, greed and stupidity.
When we weep watching this story, I believe we are reacting to memories of a country many of us remember.
We know when we are being forced to to drink from the "firehose" of DEI initiatives. America has never needed to be "fundamentally changed". The arrogance of such a statement is simply astounding.

My Mom recently died at age 88 with dementia. In the end she was just like the elderly lady in this vignette (my computer wouldn't play the clip of the original, I saw the newer clip). Just staring into space. She didn't remember me, (her son), or anyone else. If you haven't been through this with a love one, then you just can't know what it's like. No little jaunt through the neighborhood in an antique car would have brought her mind back from wherever the disease had taken it. This piece was well done, but it offended me.

I loved the ad, no matter the motivation or intentions behind it. It did bring tears to my eyes, even though I know it would have been unrealistic to expect the same outcome from my aunt who died with Alzheimers.
But, after my tears dried, I admit to having the thought - “Quick, someone take Biden for a nostalgic drive around all of the wonderful, exceptional things in America in an antique Corvette. Maybe that would remind him of how good things were before he and Obama set out to Fundamentally Change them and destroy America as we know and love her!”
Just don’t drive him past anything that reminds him of all the $$$$$ he has gotten for the destruction his policies have wrought.

Like others on this post, my Mom's last years were difficult. Memory loss is cruel. This ad was absolutely lovely. I don't begrudge Chevrolet for using it to sell cars. It also reminds me of how much love and gratitude I have for my sister, brother, and their families who remained in our hometown for the painstakingly loving care they gave Mom during those last years.

I teared up almost immediately. My wife died last January from CJD that she got form a Covid-19 jab she didn't need to have and she and I had already had the Wuhan flu. Anyway, CJJD acts like Alzheimers on steroids. I'm sure she knew who we were, etc., but was unable to speak, walk, and barely eat at the end.
What really got me was how similar her expression was to Tammy's until the granddaughter took her out for a spin. I just wish Tammy could have gotten out of her hospice bed and walked with me to her car so I could drive her around the neighborhood.
I have no problem with the ad being manipulative. Every ad exists to try to manipulate you to do something. In this case, it acknowledges the existence of what Richard Nixon used to call "The Silent Majority".
If the Biden (et. al.) regime keeps manipulating us, we won't be silent, we will stand up and yell what they said in "Network" "We're mad as Hell, and we won't take it anymore". And every day brings another manipulation and oppression, and a day closer to a catharsis, a catharsis enabled by the Second Amendment.
