Last week, over at “Just the News,” the headline blared: “Trump leads Biden in 5 battleground states in New York Times poll.” Other than a feelgood rush, so what? The official date for the ‘24 elections is November 5, though Election Day has become a nugget surrounded by gobs of ballot-stuffing and electronic hijinks. November 5 is now less than a year hence. Whatever the polls report today won’t necessarily reflect outcomes then, even if they’re honestly tallied. Let’s venture that next year’s elections are held (yes, you read that right). The results, either way, will inevitably be disputed -- and not civilly, not if Democrats manage to lose. Between Trump derangement

A tool-kit dropped by NASA astronauts working on the ISS is now orbiting the Earth at 17,000mph and will be visible from the ground as it flies over Britain tomorrow.
The stray bag was accidentally lost by astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O'Hara while they were mending a solar panel on the ISS earlier this month.
Astronomers on the ground have now spotted the kit glimmering like a star as it precedes the trajectory of the ISS by several minutes, according to The Telegraph.

I'm not sure what changed over at NBC, but for the first time in years, Saturday Night Live actually produced a funny, relevant sketch.
In a move I don't think anyone would have predicted, the once-lauded comedy show took on the topic of men competing against women in sports. (X Video) Mimicking Netflix's "Untold Stories" series, the skit tells the story of Charna Lee Diamond and Ronnie Dunster. You have to watch it to get the full effect, but the brief summary is that things go badly when the tennis match starts between the two. A U.S. Postal Service (USPS) employee and two others were arrested for a scheme involving stealing over $24 million in checks from the mail and selling them online, prosecutors say.
The postal worker, Nakedra Shannon, 29, was employed by the USPS as a mail processing clerk at a processing and distribution center in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of North Carolina.
Shannon allegedly worked alongside two co-conspirators, Donnell Gardner, 27, and Desiray Carter, 24, to steal incoming and outgoing checks from April to July 2023. The co-conspirators then sold the checks through the Telegram channel “OG Glass House,” per the statement.

The Washington Post reported Saturday night (in Israel, Sunday morning) that a tentative deal had been reached in which there would be a five-day pause in fighting in Gaza in exchange for the release of at least 50 female and child hostages by Hamas.
No men would be released under the deal, and no male or female soldiers, according to the Post, which cited unnamed officials describing an agreement brokered by the U.S. and Qatar as intermediaries between Israel and the Hamas terror organization.
