As Friday’s shutdown deadline looms over Congress, the House overwhelmingly passed a two-step temporary-funding bill on Tuesday that can partially fund the federal government through the beginning months of 2024.
With a final tally of 336–95, the stopgap bill was met with support from 209 Democrats and 127 Republicans. Only two Democrats, Representatives Jake Auchincloss (Mass.) and Mike Quigley (Ill.), and a substantial 93 Republicans dissented from their political parties. The bill now heads to the Senate, where it is also expected to pass.
The latest continuing resolution, which Speaker Mike Johnson (R., La.) proposed over the weekend, provides funding for some federal agencies until January 19 and others through February 2

Good. Now roll the printing presses, congress critters. I am sure you can print fake money faster than I can. Look, critters, we are on to your government shutdown garbage. But just suppose you find a way to salvage the US dollar from its all but certain demise.

Wasn't McCarthy thrown out for funding the government with a Continuing Resolution? Why isn't Matt Gaetz jumping up and down like a jack-in-the-box demanding that Mike Johnson be cashiered? Year number one under House Republican control is another failure as far as the budget is concerned. Any reason they should be put in charge with next year's elections?

Thanks for balancing the budget like you promised when you burned the house down, mutt gates. Oh wait! You’re busy filing an ethics complaint against your high school enemy. After that you’ll balance the budget. Of course, that’s what you meant- you’ll do it when you get around to it after you settle some scores.

What's even more frustrating about this is their attitude. They're hiding behind the media's shutdown charade, using that as an excuse, whereas the real reason for the rush is so that these "servants" of ours can begin their 6-week + paid vacation (after just having the month of August off) .

They’re all incompetent compromised dishonest hacks feeding at the public’s throat. Lying dishonesty and mendacity are a qualification for office.
They all— Democrats and Republicans and Independents— need to be taken out like the trash.
Caveat: somebody is electing these weasels.
As long as civics and ethics and faith are quaint old concepts made comedic by the Liberal Intellectual Mandate we’re doomed.
One wonders if one is alone in being disgusted and a little angry.

@#3 - Don't blame Matt Gaetz. At least he tried to do the right thing. Had McCarthy been left in place we'd be exactly where we are today as he would have done the same. If you need to blame, then blame Johnson for caving. We all want Congress to do the right thing, but Gaetz is only one person. Would you rather he had done nothing? At least he tried - there are just too many scoundrels in DC.

When it’s not your money that you are spending, it’s easy to vote for these bills. Johnson can’t turn this mess around on a dime. I don’t like this, but I still think Speaker Johnson is leaps and bounds better than Kevin “I’ll elbow you in the kidneys” McCarthy. The rot goes deep and it is going to take time to get it out. I hope to see a more conservative direction in the future. I am willing to give Speaker Johnson a chance.

God, I despise the republican party. Republican, democrat. Democrat, republican. Two wings of the same vulture. That vulture is tyranny.

Wow, Kevin the cheap shot artist, could have done this without all the drama. Gaetz was right to remove him. Unfortunately, there are no honest people left in the repub party to replace him.

Well played...now it's the Senate's fault if there is a default.
