A restaurant fired back at New York Times columnist David Brooks after he complained Wednesday on social media about the cost of his meal, saying, "This is why Americans think the economy is terrible." "This meal just cost me $78 at Newark Airport. This is why Americans think the economy is terrible," Brooks wrote with a picture of his dinner, which consisted of a cheeseburger, fries and what appears to be an alcoholic beverage. (snip) However, the restaurant (snip) pushed back on Brooks' post on Facebook Thursday. (snip) "Bar tab was almost 80% and he's complaining about the cost of his meal," it wrote.

To trust David Brooks' written word is fraught with peril. According to the Airport Restaurant, his meal was $17.98. The rest of his bill was alcohol that he consumed. Brooks drinks alot.

I love it when people push back on these liars. Businesses of all kinds are just trying to stay afloat. Gouging is unacceptable anytime but willfully lying about your bill to make a point is just disingenuous. Drink much, David? By the way, Americans know the economy stinks in more ways than one. Every time they fill up at a gas station it is driven home in real time.

#12 yes. This is what Brooks said about his first meeting with Obama: “I remember distinctly an image of–we were sitting on his couches, and I was looking at his pant leg and his perfectly creased pant,” Brooks says, “and I’m thinking, a) he’s going to be president and b) he’ll be a very good president.”

The cost of eating at a restaurant HAS gone through the roof, to the point where we dont go much anymore. And when you pay the bill you aint done, because the waitress expects another 20%+, since her boss is too cheap to pay her. One place we used to go has a sign that says the prices on the menu are wrong, but prices are rising faster than the meus can be printed. And forget my favorite, fast food chicken. It has risen so much so fast I dont even go in anymore. Its not worth $2 a piece, especially when half of it is wings and legs.

I will acknowledge that airport food is outrageously expensive but the rent the restaurant is paying is also outrageous. They either make a profit or close. That said, Brooks has stepped in it big time . Sixty bucks worth of Jack and cokes? That’s what? Six or seven drinks or so? I’m surprised they didn’t have to wheelchair him on the aircraft.
