Time to Choose What to Do About Ukraine

Original Article

Posted By: Judy W., 8/31/2023 8:42:59 AM

No one wants to hear about Ukraine again, but we need to talk about Ukraine again. The Republican debate the other week highlighted the problem. And the problem is simple. There are no good answers, but all the candidates are going to have to pick one anyway. This is one giant Slavic Schiff sandwich, and everybody’s got to take a bite. But there is no point in muttering about how if Biden was not such an incompetent half-wit who had humiliated us in Afghanistan Putin would never have invaded, or observe that Putin never invaded when Trump was in charge. We are where we are, the current situation is a mess.

Comments:

He goes through the four options he sees, and declares none of them good. This mess is all the result of the stolen election.

To say nothing of the spillover of those 4 choices into the Taiwan, North Korea, and Middle East theaters.

It was months ago…I observed that this spat was following the WW1 model, from which there were no winners, but millions of people died (war and pestilence), and the Archduke remained dead. We have not learned. The New Colossus cries « “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” « and I add, keep it far from us.

That area of the world has been fought over since forever. The USA has no critical national interest in the area. I believe we are only involved because our military and political leaders need to distract the country from what a horrible job they are doing. We shouldn't have gotten involved and should cease our involvement. There will be no winners, only losers.

OP, you hit the nail on the head. My only thought is was this present situation one of the reasons for the unity of purpose we saw in both parties to prevent Trump from winning. How’s that for a tin foil comment?! Was the conflict on the radar prior to the election and the Uniparty knew what Trump’s response would be. They have done worse things to achieve their evil agenda. I am for a cease fire during negotiations. Both sides will gain and lose but that’s what happens in these kinds of situations. Force the parties to the table and have a come to Jesus meeting. Russia does not invade sovereign countries and Ukraine will not be a member of NATO. Furthermore, make it clear that the US will not be funding anymore wars in the region. We have carried Europe’s water for eight years or so and all that stops now. We will be partners but we will not bear the brunt financially or militarily again. Take it or leave it, but we are no longer the chumps of the world. Our focus is on the USA.

Beyond all that will the Democrats be able to rig the 2024 election and get enough voters to keep Biden in office by promising abortion on demand, overtime pay for everyone, and another move to cancel at student loan debt? That’s the question, as if that happens Biden will suck up enough taxpayer’s money for the military-industrial complex to keep the Russia-Ukraine War Going to the last Ukrainian.

Ukraine is what it is largely because the usurper in chief baldly told the Chinese ambassador that we were going to invite Ukraine into NATO soon. Vlad had already ripped off three provinces from Ukraine and the VERY LAST thing he was willing to accept was Ukraine in NATO. So Vlad did what he does and invaded. He thought Ukraine would fold up like a cheap hanky, but NO, the usurper in chief, who happens to be owned by Ukraine, came to the rescue and so here we are. DJT was never owned by anybody and would never for a moment have allowed any of this farce to start. But when you have stolen elections and usurpers in office.....

My opinion as well, #5. As OP notes, there was a fifth option which was to prevent the Great Election Fraud of 2020 from happening in the first place in which case a Trump administration would have had a much better chance of keeping a war with Putie off the table. Of course, Amerika's neo-cons and elitists wanted no part of this or Trump. A sixth option was briefly in play which involved a negotiated peace about three months after Putie attacked Ukraine. But of course, biden the cheater and the elitists despised this option, too. Fast-forward to today - given KS's four options, yes, all four are bad, but a negotiated cease fire and brokered peace agreement is the least bad and more Ukrainian young men get to live. As of now, 300,000 to 400,000 have already died. Despite this loss of life, a negotiated peace remains a pipe dream - for now. Given the determination of the Ukrainian people, the meat grinder option is more likely to prevail until which time Ukrainian military runs out of soldiers and ammunition, recognizes the futility of going on with the war, and is forced to surrender or Russia somehow collapses into financial, economic, or societal chaos as a result of the war. I don't see the latter happening. Putie (or his successor) is banking on the former.

The US and all other civilized nations have a very critical interest in the Ukraine/Russia war. It is obvious how viscous, barbarous, heinous, and violent Russia is. They have killed thousands of Ukrainian civilians and destroyed billions of $$ of infrastructure and dwellings. Russia has been invading, taking over, and plundering neighboring nations since the WWII. They are barbarians with nukes. They threaten to use their nukes. Russia is a threat to civilization. Russia must be stopped. The people of Russia know this war is unjustified and they are against it. But the government has all the people suppressed with oppressive laws and harsh punishments. Free the Russian people from this tyrannical Mafia government. Now is the time and opportunity to exhaust the Russian nation of its military ambitions. If they aren't stopped now, its just a matter of time until they start another war that may turn out to be WWIII. Stop Russia Now!

After 9/11, Ukraine committed 5000 troops to support us in the GWOT. Ukraine was not obligated to do that. They backed us anyway. And we gave them written assurances of security in return for surrendering their nukes. I dismiss any course of action that involves leaving an ally out to dry and showing that our word, once given, isn't worth the paper it is printed upon.

At long last, wake up and notice the moment. Hear the argument. Anti-Trump legal scholars have been arguing that the third clause of the 14th Amendment, a post-Civil War measure barring Confederates from holding public office after participating in an insurrection, can be used against Donald Trump. Attaching a broken boxcar to the back of this moving train, an Aug. 25 essay at Politico casually compares the case for 14th Amendment disqualification from the presidency to the disqualification of southern congressmen during the Civil War.

Wherever we drive nowadays, we see electric vehicles (EVs) amid the normal internal combustion cars and hybrids. (Snip) The modern Left has a dream – that soon, very soon, every vehicle in the world will be electric, running on a heavy, cobalt-laden, lithium battery that needs to be charged up somewhere with electricity derived from an out-of-sight coal plant. The EV’s current average, we are told, is eight hours to a “full charge,” whatever that means. It might be a couple hundred miles, maybe less, maybe more. Some chargers charge faster, some vehicles take longer. We rarely see the EVs charging up while we fill our normal cars

On July 7, 1919, the U.S. Army embarked on an experiment: It sent a motorized convoy of 81 trucks, staff cars, and scout motorcycles across the country, in part to see how it would go and in part to argue for a system of national roads. It took them 62 days to drive from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco. The convoy more or less traveled the route of the Lincoln Highway, a mostly aspirational national road assembled by a private organization funded by car and tire companies. Normalcy meant reining in federal spending, and Harding established what became the Office of Management and Budget in the White House. Normalcy also meant a restoration of civil liberties. Wilson’s administration jailed critics of the war, including socialist leader Eugene V. Debs, who ran for president in 1920 while serving a 10-year prison term. Harding commuted Debs’ sentence—and invited him to the White House. That same day, Harding commuted the sentences of 23 others jailed by Wilson as well.

The number one problem Joe Biden faces going into his re-election bid is the economy. It stinks. A majority of Americans think it stinks. Almost every previous presidential election was based on the voter’s perspective on the economy. Ronald Reagan’s question still haunts all incumbents: “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?” The pandemic and the economic fallout from business closings, supply chain disruptions, and $5.2 trillion in government spending — which led to a painful spike in inflation — have made the Reagan question somewhat irrelevant. The economy has come roaring back to almost where Trump left it. But people’s perspective on the economy is still clouded.
