Death Valley National Park has closed due to flooding as a result of the downpour brought by Tropical Storm Hilary.
The park, often one of the hottest and driest places on earth, released shocking footage of streams coursing through its arid land on Sunday.
The rocky desert landscape near Zabriskie Point was overcome with muddy floodwaters. Officials for the national park also warned the situation was likely to get worse.
'This video was taken near Zabriskie Point earlier this morning. Hurricane Hilary is forecasted to cause heavy rain for the next several days,

Over-hyped headline by Daily Mail. This storm was weakened significantly in the last 24 hours. I seriously doubt LA saw those kinds of winds.

Evil attracts evil. This is Biblical. Amusing that the Hurricane is called after their favorite witch, Hillary.

Oh the hilarious memes that are going to come out of this. The jokes are just going to write themselves.
Living in hurricane-ville here in Texas, I certainly would never wish a bad hurricane on anyone. They are not fun -- especially if you aren't used to them!!!! But having lived through several in my life, you have to laugh when its all said and done.

I don't know about anyone else but I think most of this scary weather is made up hype so the climate hoaxers can point the finger and say "see, we told you." We've had ten inches of rain on many a summer day and strong winds of 60mph or more occur regularly in the spring and fall. And I don't believe the day after day of over 100 degrees we are suddenly having. It's all to push their agenda.

This storm is a little more intense than the yearly "pineapple express" hitting SoCal...but not by much.

Nope, here in San Diego it’s been an mild rainstorm—we had worse last Winter. And I’m glad. Nice try, climate change agenda-ists! The local weather people are soooooo disappointed! The news was ridiculous the past 2 days!

If they have 80mph winds? Why isn't there video of 80mph winds?
EVERY hurricane has 100 people out film to show how strong the winds are...often trying to make it look as bad as they can, but there is always video.

Kinda reminds me of that part in the second Lord of the Rings movie where the Ents break the dam holding back the river and wash the filth from Isengard.

Beyond any over hype, this storm is nothing more than what any east coast state
see's several times a year. Dear California, Welcome to weather.
Brought to you by mother nature.

All the footage is "shocking". Looks like a lot of rain, although by most standards, 2 inches isn't huge. We got three inches here a month and a half ago. It mostly has to do with the normally dry desert area which doesn't often deal with what is for most places a fairly common rainfall level.
Desert areas are obviously normally dry, so they often don't have the same drainage and related infrastructure as other places where it is more common.
And I've seen photos of the LA River like that before, and this is exactly WHY it is there, and built with the stabilizing concrete liners on bottom and sides. Because it is periodically absolutely needed, even though it isn't every month, or even every year.
Hope people do well, but any time the weather is unusual, stuff gets messed up. And some people plan well for unusual weather, and others don't.

Tropical Storm Hilary is located over Compton now, with max sustained winds of 45 MPH. Most of the flooding is in the desert from Guerrero Negro through Death Valley.
Quake was moderate and several miles to the west (not close to any major population centers).

it's been constant rain here in San Fernando Valley since 9 a m yesterday. i expect there will be problems w/runoff in the many hills/mountains that surround us. i see from some of callous comments that many here are unfamiliar with and just ignorant about the dangers of flash floods crashing down from hills/stream beds.

Reminds me of 1992. Live in Louisiana. The state was in for really the worst storm ever. And predictions were way off as to where it was coming ashore.. Nat. news media kept saying storm was headed for NOLA. Watching the local weather predictors, it wasn't going to NOLA. It was headed for the coast between New Iberia and Morgan City. Dan Rather even showed up, I believe to show the nation what kind of low life lived around here. He camped out in a decrepit bar in New Iberia, with his TV crew. So here comes Andrew. My house was moving back and forth. Live in a one story brick house. The sound of the hurricane was horrible. So to make a short story much longer. I sympathize with those in CA that will suffer floods and mudslides. May they know that the media is manure with predictions. Please don't diminish the problems CA will have.
In some places destruction will be bad. Newsies are creeps..

Agree that this is just being hyped by the climate nut cases. A couple of weeks ago there was going to be a devastating storm in the DC area which they said would cause massive damage. The Federal Government closed early and sent everyone home as did many businesses.
I have family who live north and west of DC and most of DC’s weather hits them first. The day after the storm I texted one of them and asked about the damage - there was none. It was just a “regular storm” which they get all the time in summer.

Hysterical much? The storm was noteworthy but hardly a catastrophe. In all likelihood it won't rain again for months, so everyone will dry off by the time winter storms arrive.
