A new reactor at a nuclear power plant in Georgia has entered commercial operation, becoming the first new American reactor built from scratch in decades. Georgia Power Co. announced Monday that Unit 3 at Plant Vogtle, southeast of Augusta, has completed testing and is now sending power to the grid reliably. At its full output of 1,100 megawatts of electricity, Unit 3 can power 500,000 homes and businesses. Utilities in Georgia, Florida and Alabama are receiving the electricity. Nuclear power now makes up about 25% of the generation of Georgia Power, the largest unit of Atlanta-based Southern Co.

We have and have had a nuclear powered surface and submarine fleet for decades. But nuclear power for civilian uses - oh no - we're all going to die.

Great news. Now, build 100 more, and blow up all those damned eyesore windmills. Coming across most of Iowa yesterday, we saw at least 100 of them, probably more. For every one that was turning, there were 10 to 15 not moving a bit. What a wonderful power "sources"....putting out maybe 6-8% of "installed capacity". That nuke station will put out about 95+% of rated capacity for the next 40-50 years, if cared for properly.

My little Georgia city has always owned a percentage of Plant Vogtle . It’s kept our utility rates reasonable for decades. We own a percentage of reactors 3 and 4 also. We were blessed with some smart, far-sighted leaders over the years. They also saw the need for monumental water availability and took care of that with reservoirs, etc. the author of this piece is obviously a liberal chick who doesn’t like nukes. Good for her....she will enjoy paying five times what we do over the coming years.

IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley had a lot to say about the decision this week by Attorney General Merrick Garland to make U.S. Attorney David Weiss Special Counsel in the probe into Hunter Biden. (snip) “Yesterday’s announcement was an admission by Attorney General Garland that they have not been truthful — the Department of Justice hasn’t been truthful with the American people,” Shapley said. If you read nothing else this week, read Victor Davis Hanson’s article in American Greatness detailing how Obama began “the most radical revolutions” in our history. As legal matters -- the lawfare waged against former President Trump and the Department of Justice’s pussyfooting around the Biden bribery took this week’s center stage, it’s useful to note his remarks on the weaponization of justice in this country. Here’s a sample: Administrations and their efforts to stock the justice department with supporters come and go. But in the last decade the Left has viewed the Department of Justice as a political extension of the party -

US Rep. Cori Bush pocketed $15,000 for teaching a university summer course on reparations, according to her financial disclosure report. The Missouri congresswoman — and longtime champion of offering cash payments to black Americans as compensation for slavery — earned the dough from George Mason University for co-teaching the class “The Public Pedagogy of Truth and Reparations.” The course is expected to focus on “truth telling processes” as well as “state sponsored violence against African Americans and other targeted groups,” the school said in a news release. Bush is a member of the Squad — a loose alignment of far left House members led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Queens).

'From what we’ve learned, we believe the Lahaina fires could have been prevented had proper safety precautions been taken,' said Gerald Singleton, a lawyer involved with the potential legal action, to the New York Times.
