My father is one of three boys in his family, the middle son. His older brother is my Uncle Bruce. He and my father are approximately three years apart in age. They had formed a fast bond by the time their third brother came along, and the stories of Bruce and my dad’s childhood antics are legendary in the family. For example: One of my grandfathers worked as the manager of a small storefront JCPenney in western Kansas during my father’s childhood, back when JCPenney still maintained storefronts in small towns.
