Ex-president Donald Trump has vowed to fire US government employees who fail a proposed civil service test.
The real estate mogul made the pledge in a campaign video released over the weekend that hit out at last year's raid on Mar-a-Lago.
'I will require every federal employee to pass a new civil service test, demonstrating an understanding our constitutional limited government,' he said. The 76-year-old said they would be forced to answer questions on 'due process rights, equal protection, free speech (and) religious liberty.'
In a thinly veiled reference to the removal of documents at his exclusive Florida residence,

They should be fired, if they belong to a union. Civil service jobs should be changed to at will jobs, like other Americans.

Most federal employees if they are honest know the entire civil “servant” (what a ridiculous word in this context) system must be cleaned out.

President Trump, do not tell your enemies in advance that you will destroy them when you regain your power. You will fill them with a resolve to go to any extreme to defeat you.

It was JFK, or so I recall, who ordered that Federal employee unions were to be recognized and negotiated with. The damage caused thereby is incalculable. President Trump should reverse that error.

I was a federal employee over 33 years. I got hired in 1974 after scoring well on the exam in place then. The exam tested if you could read with comprehension, write good English, and perform decent quantitative analysis. The exam was subsequently tossed out by courts because our dear minorities couldn’t pass it. Guess how that turned out.
I always remember Churchill’s comment that civil servants are neither civil nor servant.

Reduce government to the size of a rural elementary school in South Carolina. Federal, state, and local.

I love PDT's creative thinking. The testing system has to be cheat-proof.
Next requirement: They have to put the devices down and work.

The test should be given in cursive. I swear half the problems with the msil is that delivery personnel cannot read cursive.

He would first need to revoke President JFK's Executive Order, which allowed Civil Service Unions. Good luck running on that platform.

And which civil servant will write the new test? I agree with 4, and wish PDJT would follow the wisdom of Sun Tzu: “Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.”

What a practical and useful idea. Get rid of all of the Affirmative Action hires, which looks like around 80% of the government stable of misfits, and hire those who might have a chance of knowing what they are doing.

It will never happen.
Trump is promising something even he cannot deliver.
Affirmative Action has killed Civil Service, The best he could possibly do is not hire anyone who cannot pass the Civil Service test.

I recommend the 10% rule many corporations follow. Employees compartmentalized by department or section level groups (larger than 10) go through annual review of performance and are ranked. Bottom 10% are let go. Only selective hiring of top talent up to 3- 5% is permitted - not necessarily in the same department. . Even though it is slow, over the years the force reduction becomes meaningful while gradually improving the quality of the workforce. A show stopper however is that the 10% who are let go could turn out to be 90% minorities.

The cynic in me says this won't work. The courts would shoot it down. Also, the lefties in government that infringe on due process, equal protection, free speech, and religious liberty know exactly what they are doing and would pass a civil service test with ease.

This is one of those statements that Trump haters will bludgeon him with as lie #6,987. Those who understand Trump will know this is a shot across the bow, telling the agents of the Deep State that he is unbowed. Will he actually fire that many people? Who knows? Hope so.

I suspect that the government has in its employ the same number of excess employees as Twitter had before Musk took over. About 80% of the Twitter employees either quit of were fired once Musk took over, and the company runs just as well if not better. Musk stated that Twitter had so many employees, many of them did absolutely nothing all day and contributed nothing to the operation of Twitter.

It's about time that the civil service knows what their jobs are....so WE can eliminate the dead weight and the unions that keep them in power...and classified documents need to be scrutinized by a small group of employees instead of given to everyone who has served and is now on staff at news media positions...so they can leak information at will...like comey and clapper and the others....WE need to drain the swamp....

To do what Trump wants, he would have to get the Congress to pass a new civil service law requiring the test. In over four decades in dealing with the current federal civil service I have found that about half of the civil service employees do almost all of the actual work, are honest, and hard working. The other half are simply dead wood, many of who got their jobs and subsequent promotions through politics, remain politicized, and who use every excuse to get out of actually doing the work they were hired to supposedly accomplish. Chances of Congress passing any new law that would adversely impact the civil service employees up to the level of super bureaucrats who support their political positions are very slim.

More importantly, judges should be tested. That would be a giant cleanup within the judicial system.
If a judge answers in accordance with the constitution but then gives a decision which violates the constitution, immediate firing should be imposed and all illegal decisions be reversed. If a judge gives a wrong answer, then there is suspension until a rectification is completed. Judges have a job of simply applying the law not issuing decisions based upon political preference. The justice system has for many decades been corrupted by socialists implementing harmful and hurtful results on the people. Stick to the constitution and life will flourish. Having small-minded, self-serving, socialists neutered would be glorious.

Every year I have to pass many training tests like ethics, security, harassment etc. Just part of the job but I don't think anyone gets fired for the tests, they do get fired if they do not follow rules taught in the training.
