New climate paper calls for charging big
US oil firms with homicide

Oil companies have come under increasing legal scrutiny and face allegations of defrauding investors, racketeering, and a wave of other lawsuits. But a new paper argues there’s another way to hold big oil accountable for climate damage: trying companies for homicide. The striking and seemingly radical legal theory is laid out in a paper accepted for publication in the Harvard Environmental Law Review. In it, the authors argue fossil fuel companies “have not simply been lying to the public, they have been killing members of the public at an accelerating rate, and prosecutors should bring that crime to the public’s attention”.

First of all, they have to prove that the climate has been damaged and that the oil companies were responsible for it. Almost all of these climate nutjobs are under the age of forty. Most of them are under the age of thirty. I'd like to take them back to the early sixties and have them look around at the environment as it existed then. The air was dirtier. The water was dirtier. Trash was everywhere, and people burned their trash (at least where I lived) in 55-gallon drums in the backyard. There were no garbage collectors who came around twice a week to pick up your trash. Trucks would come down our road where we lived twice a year to spray DDT to kill the mosquitoes. Being kids who were left alone to play outside, we would ride our bikes behind the truck and scream I can't see you to the other kids we played with. To us kids, it was fun to be in the cloud. All of us are now in our mid to late sixties and have no health issues. Imagine how today's kids and parents would react if a similar truck drove through the neighborhood today. Most likely the kids wouldn't even know a truck was there because they would be inside on TikTok or playing video games.

Waco - A defiant and incendiary Donald Trump, facing a potential indictment, held the first rally of his 2024 presidential campaign Saturday in Waco, Texas, a city made famous by deadly resistance against law enforcement. In an extraordinary display, Trump opened his rally by playing a song, “Justice for All,” that features a choir of men imprisoned for their role in the Jan. 6, 2021, deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol singing the national anthem and a recording of Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Ron DeSantis has pioneered a new strategy in dealing with the press. Namely, he largely ignores them. For years, outlets like CNN and The New York Times have relied on access to politicians they despise and constantly smear. And for years, Republicans have played along, believing they need the publicity in order to communicate with the American public. Even Donald Trump, famously adversarial with the press, has continued to give interviews to people like Maggie Haberman and Bob Woodward. DeSantis has chosen another path, not even bothering to give his political enemies, which the press obviously are, the free material.
