The U.S. economy is expected to fall into a recession later this year, said a majority of economists surveyed in an influential semi-annual poll.
Fifty-eight percent of economists said they expect the economy to be in a recession to begin this year, according to the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) Policy Survey. The largest share—24 percent—said they expect the recession to begin in the third quarter of this year. Sixteen percent said they expect the recession to begin in the second quarter, which begins at the end of this week as April starts. Another 13 percent said the recession will begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

North Carolina-based First Citizens Bank and Trust has purchased Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), the tech industry favorite that collapsed earlier this month amidst an historic bank run.
The agreement involves the sale of all deposits and loans of SVB to First-Citizens, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) said in a statement late Sunday night. AP reports customers of SVB automatically will become customers of First Citizens, which is headquartered in Raleigh. The 17 former branches of SVB will open as First Citizens branches when business begins Monday. Regulators shut Silicon Valley down on March 10 when it had about $167 billion in total assets and roughly $119 billion in deposits.

At a rally in Waco, Texas, former president Donald Trump spoke to thousands of fans about what he believes are the biggest issues of the day.
If you were to pay attention to the news cycles and the American people’s biggest concerns, you might think Trump spent hours talking about persistent inflation, a minor financial crisis, border security, the fentanyl epidemic, China, Russia, energy independence, etc. None of that really seemed to be on Trump’s agenda Saturday night, however.
Instead, what we got was an airing of grievances from the former president. It was a rally focused on his personal enemies – the Department of Justice, Ron DeSantis, Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell,

I haven’t followed the January 6 prosecutions as closely as I probably should have. I thought it was obvious that the Capitol riot was the most overblown story of modern times. The idea that the protesters who entered the Capitol (mostly peacefully, as far as I could see, more or less invited in by Capitol guards) were mounting an “insurrection” was and is absurd, given that not a single one of them brought a firearm, and they made no attempt to harm anyone inside the Capitol. Some insurrection!
A big trial is now going on in Washington–the biggest, as I understand it

Israel's president has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "stop the legislative process immediately" after the PM triggered widespread protests by sacking his defence minister for objecting to judicial reforms.
President Isaac Herzog, the head of state who is supposed to remain above politics, said "the eyes of the whole world are on you" following Mr Netanyahu's dismissal of Yoav Gallant on Sunday.
Mr Gallant broke ranks as an increasing number of Israeli Defence Force reservists have been going on strike in protest at the government's proposals.

Democratic strategist Donna Brazile said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who has not announced a presidential bid, is “running on a 1950s America,” which she believes will benefit President Joe Biden.
Brazile said, “Joe Biden this Tuesday will start to Invest in an American tour where he’s going to spend the next two or three weeks along with his members of the cabinet and the vice president. Once she returns from Africa, they’re going to begin to talk directly to the American people on the anxieties and concerns that everyday Americans have.” She continued, “I want to say something on these culture wars.

Donald Trump's lawyer distanced himself Sunday from his client's escalating attacks on New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg as he weighs criminal charges against the former president.
“I’m not his social media consultant," Joe Tacopina said in an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” when host Chuck Todd pressed him about whether he would advise a client to attack a prosecutor personally. "I think that was an ill-advised post that one of his social media people put up and he quickly took down when he realized the rhetoric and the photo that was attached to it." Todd responded: "You're referring to the baseball bat thing, which, of course,

The new House oversight committee investigating the political weaponization of the Justice Department may want to bring on some additional staff and start putting in some overtime. Every new story that comes out about the FBI’s actions in recent years makes the Bureau look worse and worse. The latest story posted by our colleagues at PJ Media involves the ongoing “seditious conspiracy” charges being brought against leaders and members of the Proud Boys. The trial of chapter leader Zach Rehl was preparing to call a witness this week, but ran into a problem. Their “witness” turned out to be a confidential informant for the FBI who had been spying

WASHINGTON — Ron DeSantis may be missing his moment.
A number of the Florida governor’s donors and allies are worried his recent stumbles suggest he may not be ready for a brutal fight against Donald Trump. Some feel DeSantis needs to accelerate his timeline to run for the GOP presidential nomination and begin directly confronting Trump if he's to have any chance of thwarting the former president’s momentum. Others believe DeSantis should sidestep Trump altogether and wait until 2028 to run.

Former President Donald Trump trashed Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) at the first rally of his 2024 presidential campaign in Waco, Texas, on Saturday night.
Trump hit DeSantis on a number of fronts, including Social Security, Medicare, and the coronavirus pandemic, but his harshest criticism came on the issue of loyalty. Trump recounted that an emotional DeSantis approached him during Florida’s 2018 gubernatorial primary race against Adam Putnam and essentially begged for an endorsement to help land the nomination: But I’m a loyalist, and when a man comes to me, tears in his eyes, he’s at almost nothing in the polls, and he’s fighting somebody that’s at 42 [percent],

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis explained on Thursday that he is "more of an executive guy" in response to a question about whether or not he would join a potential ticket as former President Trump’s running mate come 2024. "I think I’m probably more of an executive guy," the governor told Newsmax. "I think that you want to be able to do things. That’s part of the reason I got into this job is because we have action."
"We’re able to make things happen, and I think that’s probably what I am best suited for," said DeSantis.
The leader was also asked if he would want Trump

Waco - A defiant and incendiary Donald Trump, facing a potential indictment, held the first rally of his 2024 presidential campaign Saturday in Waco, Texas, a city made famous by deadly resistance against law enforcement.
In an extraordinary display, Trump opened his rally by playing a song, “Justice for All,” that features a choir of men imprisoned for their role in the Jan. 6, 2021, deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol singing the national anthem and a recording of Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Some footage from the insurrection was shown on screens.
