Agatha Christie's novels are the latest works to be rewritten to eliminate verbiage that has been deemed insensitive or inappropriate, it has emerged.
Several of the passages in the author's Poirot and Miss Marple mysteries have reportedly been reworked or stripped altogether from new editions of the books.
Publisher HarperCollins eliminated text containing 'insults or references to ethnicity', as well as descriptions of certain characters' physiques, The Telegraph reported. (Snip) New editions of Ms Christie's novels, reviewed by the newspaper, showed that editors have made 'scores of changes' to her books.
The novels, penned between 1920 and 1976, were stripped of sections of 'unsympathetic' dialogue, apparent insults and character descriptions.

What next, officials mandate that all previous copies of her books, copies with "offensive" language, be burned?

What are they going to re-write next? How about some of the Greek classics or Shakespeare?? There are lots of "offensive" things in those.

Most of the people who would be offended by the original writing cannot read in the first place.

Who are the few being offended? Don’t buy the new books. If you want to read Christie's works, look for the old editions. I don’t need these young twerps to sanitize anything for me!

What’s next? The Bible?
This is beyond outrageous. Imagine how the writer’s would feel to know their works are bastardized for the sake of the delicate flowers who cannot tolerate harsh words or sentiments. Disgusting, truly.

I guess 'insults or references to ethnicity' must be like mean tweets. They hurt the poor delicate flowers and they are unable to function as normal people. Meanwhile, these same people have a liar, cheat, corrupt, senile president and that doesn't bother them, who knew?

Look at it this way.
The value of the older editions of Agatha Christie's novels will go up.
There would be a market to print the older versions since so many would be turned off by the newer ones.

They've already tried rewriting the Holy Bible, which failed miserably. But we all know the definition of insanity is doing something again and again always expecting a different outcome. These "Cancel Culture Zealots" are wading into EXTREMELY dangerous waters. I believe we should all be aware of exactly WHO these people are who are pushing this leftist "woke" narrative. Give us their names!

Re #11. Some years ago, some publisher rewrote ‘The Hardy Boys’ books. Not only to write out ‘offensive’ words but they dumbed down the prose and took out the big words that might confuse the semi-illiterates trying to read them. The result was some sort of ‘see spot run’ version. Not long after that another publisher came out with the originals. Since I had lost my originals, I bought the old ones. They still read well.

I love Agatha Christie because she transports the reader beck in time to the old English estates, dinner parties, Tea Time, and mystery. Each of her characters has their talents and quirks. Her mysteries are clever and not too easy for the reader to solve. She also exposed the attitudes of the aristocracy toward foreigners, servants, and the common folk, which was foolish, arrogant and not often pretty.
Who are these people to change a syllable in any of the stories of the woman who has sold over 2 billion books and who remains popular more than 100 years after her first novel?

Nothing can escape the totalitarians, not even Agatha Christie. In one of her mysteries a police inspector (in the most respectable and admirable way) refers to Miss Maple as his Old Pussy. I suppose this will have to excised to appease our betters.

Have we looked at book sales?
Liberals write, but can't move books.
They all end up in the $0.50 bin.
Liberals who are so easily triggered aren't reading at all.
They listen to music and watch jacka$$-type videos.
Ironically, the triggered class would hate the "Oscar Wilde" Mystery book series.

This isn't the first time. Christie's novel "Ten Little Indians" (made into the movie "And Then There Were None) was originally "Ten Little [N-word] after the children's counting rhyme. I have no idea what they use now since both "Indian" and the n-word are now verboten.

They do the same with everything else. If they don't like the definition of a word, they change it. If they don't like what History says, they change that too. These revisionist need to behave.

Note to Harper Collins: Modern audiences have no interest in Ms. Christie’s books, not because they are not good, but because modern audiences have no desire to read anything at all, much less classic literature. Their illiterate minds simply cannot grasp anything outside of social media and Marvel Comics movies. A smart publishing house would understand that and not waste the money to rework pieces that their target, “modern” audience wouldn’t read anyway. All they will do is alienate the audience FOR Ms. Christie’s work. Get woke, go broke. Stupid.

In "Cards on the Table," Agatha Christie wrote '...stupidity is unforgivable and punishment always the result.' How could that be re-written? "Unwise people have negative consequences?" Read the novel, that wouldn't work. But stupid people don't read novels so maybe that passage will be free from a politically correct edit.

And I would urge the offended to gtfo.
