Electric Vehicles Bleeding Red Ink: Ford
Is Losing Billions on EVs

Original Article

Posted By: mc squared, 3/25/2023 12:42:20 PM

Ford Motor Company says its electric vehicle (EV) unit, “Ford Model e,” is losing billions of dollars, and should be viewed as a startup company. Model e has lost $3 billion before taxes over the last two years, and is expected to lose another $3 billion this year as the company invests in the new technology, according to a report by Associated Press. In 2021, Ford’s Model e unit had pretax losses of $900 million. And in 2022, that number was $2.1 billion. Ford reportedly believes Model e will be profitable before taxes by late 2026, with an eight percent pretax profit margin.

I'm not picking on Ford here, (although they are at fault for the loss of value) they're just the canary in the coal mine. We all know that when you're digging a 3 billion hole in the ground - keep digging.

We DON'T want 'em. Understand? To expensive. However, you might be buying one of their cars indirectly when FJB steps in to bail them out. (Ford is to big to fail because the American public is just so ignorant and they really don't know any better.) Leave me and my gas powered car and heat, and water heater and kitchen stove the hell alone.

Follow-up thought. Just wait until they build the 500,000 new charging stations Slow Joe promised. Oh wait, scratch that. They aren't building any new generating plants to generate electricity for those charging stations. Ooops.

If Ford isn't smart enough to pull the plug on this misadventure, they deserve to go broke. Toyota has already said "not so fast, boys...." and they're still in the black. Previous posters are right: nobody wants these damn things.

They will never work. We do not have the elements to make enough batteries. We do not have the charging stations. We do not have the electricity to supply the charging stations. We need more oil to make the plastic cars. I do not want an electric car!

Rented EVs a couple of times, because they are the cheapest to rent at our airport. My only complaint is the RIDICULOUS amount of time you spend charging them, the way they drink juice. Other than than they handle well and do have some cool features.

Economics 101: If part B of a company is bleeding money, part A of that company is having to charge more to make up for that. So anyone buying a gas or diesel vehicle from Ford, you are paying much more than you should to make up for these idiotic EV loses. Historically, Ford has stood for "Fix Or Repair Daily". What makes anyone believe that their EV's will be any different?!?!?!?!?!?

I want an electric car to use to run up to the store. Like a big golf cart. But not as a real car. Right now, my finances do not run to a hobby car. And then there is the century of infrastructure built up for gasolene cars that must be replicated. Gas stations are built for a 5 minute stop to refuel. I wonder how they would be built in a crowded city center for a 2 hour stop. Mere details for Big Bidet to sweep aside in his mindless trip down the flight of stairs.

I'm in the car business. I am an auto broker, so I help folks buy cars and avoid dealerships. I have been predicting the collapse of the EV market for a while now-they are just not versatile enough to justify the price. And as a pick up truck, or an 'off-road' option-forget it. They have no range doing any kind of real work or slogging through the back country. As a commuter, they have some value, but have been vastly overpriced. If you want one, wait, because the prices are already falling.

Even if I wanted an EV, even if I could afford an EV and even if it came with a Womb-to-Tomb warranty, I would refrain from making such a stupid purchase. EV's win in the great lottery of the Thar She Blows sweepstakes by becoming a boiling hulk of metal at a whim and stranding you far from home.

Hybrids, EVs and even turbo/smaller displacement engines are a result of ever increasing CAFE standards being forced on the manufacturers by the federal government. Tax incentives for EVs exacerbated the issue and drove prices up too. Costs of regulatory compliance are always passed along to the buyers.

Notice how all the EVs have big acceleration. Like a sports car. There is a reason. That makes them appeal to car enthusiasts. But I think the car enthusiasts are moving on to other vehicles because that is what they do. I wonder how an EV would sell that had the acceleration of a Honda Civic? So I think EV's are pretty much gone is 5 years.

These electric turkeys are getting slaughtered by the public. We don't want them! People around the world don't want them. Electric cars cars are being pushed on the public as a fraudulent way to 'lower carbon footprints.' The laws of thermodynamics belie this. The global warming hoax was hatched in the almost cold embers of the dying Soviet Union but eagerly snatched up by the Democrat Party as a means to a socialist transformation of America. Remember this law: If the solution for global warming (electric cars, etc.) was lower taxes, fewer regulations, and less intrusive government, the issue would vanish.

The Paris Accords had a date of 2100 to meet the goals and objectives, folks, that's still 77 years from now. Why this urgent push now? Hybrids were a fine alternative, and worked well. Are they really telling us that the people in China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and India (who turns out more engineers than anyone else), just don't see the same information and realize it? Do they think all of those people just don't know better, or are stupid? Or, do those countries see the actual data, and notice the Western Countries are following advice based on bad data? That they are willingly allowing the Western economies to rework their entire wealth, reducing their ability to continue to be the major power players they've been the past 100 years.

It's tough to sell EVs when the EV infrastructure doesn't exist and wont be ready for decades. Windmills take time to construct on corners of busy streets. No matter how good the EV sounds, if you can conveniently drive it like a IC vehicle, the EV wont sell.

At a Senior community in Florida where a few friends older than me have moved, (almost) everyone has a car and a golf cart. The garages are constructed that way. The cart is very useful for playing golf, running errands, visiting friends in the community. They never leave the community campus and reduce usage on the regular IC cars. That is where EV use should start and stop.

Toyota is noticeably lagging on EV's having produced the Prius for 20 (yes 20) years. Why wait in line to plug in when you can charge on the road ? Ford will catch on ... too late.

Re #28. I have a small second home in a small lake community. All 18 of us have at least one golf cart. Very handy for its intended use. All the roads are private so they don't have to equipped and licensed for public roads. Also handy for some because you avoid a DUI. So far, no one driven into the lake after a few too many cocktails. I cannot imagine an EV for anything other that use.

Ford needs to build what made their company strong and not bend to these Globalist whack jobs. An electric car might be great in a two car family for running errands but not for long haul or transportation, particularly in very cold climates and in areas of heavy downpours. Look what happened in Florida with the hurricane. It was a disaster with the EV's.

I tried to imagine how long that trip would have taken if I had to stop for an hour or more to recharge every 250 miles. If I could find a charger. EVs only work for commuters. Question 1: If green is the solution why isn't there a federal law already in place that mandates all ev's of every type must be powered by energy produced SOLELY by wind and solar? Question 2: Why hasn't big oil made a ruckus about a national policy aimed directly at putting them out of business? Answer: Because even greater quantities of fossil based fuel will be required to power the grid after 200 million electric cars, trucks, vans and buses hit the roads. What a scam.

The old cultural imperialism was supposedly greedy corporatism like Disneyland, McDonald's, and Starbucks sprouting up worldwide to supplant local competitors. But these businesses spread because they appealed to free-will consumer demand abroad. They were not imposed top down. The U.S. presence in Afghanistan collapsed in August 2021 amid the greatest American military humiliation in modern history. A billion-dollar new embassy was abandoned. Hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of new infrastructure at the huge Bagram Airbase was dumped. We still do not know how many billions of dollars of sophisticated new weapons were left to the Taliban and now are making their way through global terrorists' marts.

Black drivers in Florida are nearly three times more likely to be ticketed by police and sheriff’s deputies under a law that allowed law enforcement to cite drivers for loud music starting last year, according to a new analysis of traffic data and court records. The analysis showed that Black drivers received almost 37% of the tickets, despite Black people making up only about 16% of Florida's driving-eligible population. Law enforcement cited Black drivers at a rate of just over 11 tickets per 100,000 Black drivers, and cited white drivers at a rate of 3.9 tickets per 100,000 white drivers.

Trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney has said she has been having trouble sleeping since a backlash erupted over her partnership with Bud Light and questioned the psychological effects of being called a man thousands of times a day. Her comments came during an episode of the 'Dear Schuyler' podcast, hosted by trans athlete Schuyler Bailar and which released on Monday. Mulvaney suggested that as the trans debate in the US has escalated, transphobia has become increasingly blatant, resulting in an inhospitable 'wild west' for trans people.

Santos also is accused of lying about his finances on congressional disclosure forms and applying for and receiving unemployment benefits while he was employed as regional director of an investment firm

Joe Biden fundraised off of former President Donald Trump’s CNN town hall appearance on Wednesday, asking people if they “want four more years of that?” “It’s simple, folks. Do you want four more years of that? If you don’t, pitch in to our campaign,” the president tweeted Wednesday night. Former President Donald Trump steamrolled CNN’s Kaitlan Collins during Wednesday’s Townhall event in New Hampshire, dismissing her politically biased and outdated questions, effectively reducing her role as the moderator by speaking directly to the audience about the “gotcha” topics a visibly irritated Collins continually posed throughout the night. The highly anticipated townhall event, teased by Trump, boded well for the former president, despite Collins’s attempt to begin the event with a series of contentious topics and arguably outdated leftist narratives — from the 2020 election results to January 6 to accusations in the E. Jean Carroll case. Notably, Trump received a standing ovation at his introduction.
