Here’s what we know about the Ohio train derailment

Original Article

“We basically nuked a town.” That was the assessment of hazardous materials expert Sil Caggiano in the aftermath of the horrific derailment of a Norfolk Southern freight train in East Palestine, Ohio, on Feb. 3. The train was carrying several cars of vinyl chloride and other toxic chemicals en route from Madison, Illinois, to Conway, Pennsylvania, before 38 of its 141 cars derailed at around 9 p.m. local time. Eleven of the derailed cars contained hazardous materials, per the National Transportation and Safety Board.

What we don't seem to know yet is why the train derailed.

When some "expert" equates a chemical spill with nuclear weapons.....he has flushed all credibility, in my view.

#1 Did you even read the story? In the old days, a brakeman in the caboose may have spotted this before it happened.

How many hot axel detectors were on the 20 miles of track before the wreck? Were they working and did they report anything? What caused the emergency brake application, the engineer or a break in the train caused by the initial derailment? Did any railroad employee do a run by inspection of the train prior to the wreck? Was the train more heavily weighted in the rear causing those loads to run in and push the cars ahead of them off the tracks? So far all I hear is lots of finger pointing and posturing with no real information.

I forgot to add the new craze called precision scheduled railroading which reduced manpower and left less time for track and equipment maintenance, the idea being to keep cars and engines rolling as much as possible to maximize profit. The railroads have gone pretty far in squeezing overhead from the system.

Norfolk Southern screwed up by cutting corners to save money. EPA screwed up by setting it all on fire. Biden screwed up by telling Ohio to go pound sand when they requested help. However, none of the above are the ones who got screwed. Very few of these residents can afford to abandon their houses and pack up and leave. If they stay, they likely will have shortened lives.

From the people in denial about 'Sudden Deaths.' FTA: Despite repeated reassurances, residents have reported unusual symptoms, like a burning sensation in the mouth, lips and tongue, that they attribute to the chemical spill. Reports of thousands of dead fish and other animals have also been common. However, a spokesman for DeWine said Thursday that no doctors who have seen these patients have attributed their symptoms to the derailment and its aftermath. “There’s usually another explanation for those symptoms,” Dan Tierney, the spokesperson, told The Washington Post. Yup., I'm sure there is.

#5 The answer is 3. There is a defect detector at Salem MM 69 where the video of the train was taken, one at Columbiana at MM 60.8 and another one at MM 49.8 at East Palestine, a mile before the derailment site. They probably spent an hour dragging a hotbox.

NTSB reported today that the final hotbox detector alarmed. The engineer was in the process of stopping the train when it went into emergency and the crew noted a fire at the derailment site. Sounds like they did what they were supposed to do.

Joe Biden acquired his job through a legal process. However, he did not earn enough verifiable votes to justify the certifications in six key swing states. This issue is addressed in my new book, but here is some of my reasoning. I have limited myself to one example of unverifiable votes for each of those swing states. Arizona At an Arizona Senate Committee hearing on January 24, 2022, we learned that precisely 95 percent of Maricopa County overseas military members (and their families) voted for Joe Biden. That is an amazing (as in phony) percentage, given that the overall county-wide vote was fairly even between Biden and Trump (51 to 49%).

The White House said Wednesday it moved one step closer to meeting its offshore wind energy goals by announcing the first lease sale for developments in the Gulf of Mexico. President Joe Biden set a goal of having 30 gigawatts of offshore wind installed by 2030, with another 15 GW coming from floating turbine installations by 2035. To reach that goal, the administration said it opened its first lease sale for offshore wind in the Gulf of Mexico. Three lease areas off Texas and Louisiana could support the development of enough wind energy to meet the demands of nearly 1.3 million average households, the White House in a fact sheet.

The Ukrainians have not only held their own, but have managed to liberate a good chunk of their conquered territory. They’ve been buoyed tremendously by a constant influx of Western military aid. I argue here, against a small but vocal conservative faction, that we should continue this aid. There has been plenty of unhelpful hyperbole on both sides of the debate. Prominent pro-Ukrainers have attempted to equate opposition to Ukrainian aid as opposition to democracy itself.
