New video shows the terrifying moment an alligator lunged at a woman walking her dog by a lake in her Florida community, dragging her to her death.
The horrifying nightmare captured on video obtained by Inside Edition unfolded in front of a neighbor who frantically called 911 as she tried to help the woman. But it was too late.
Gloria Serge, 85, died after she was mauled to death by the 10-foot gator when she tried to rescue her beloved dog, Trooper, from the reptile's clutches on Monday.
Serge's pup survived the attacked, but the gator was later captured and euthanized.

So tragic.
Prayers for her family and friends.
Please people, stay far away from any lake or body of water that has alligators.
Lived briefly on idyllic Daniel Island SC and alligators sunbathed on the lake by our garage. Seven-pound Yorkie pup and I would walk the opposite way, even though there was a gazebo nearby with tables and barbecue grills, and often friends. We would walk around the long way, far from the water. There was also an eagle and hawks living in the nearby wildlife sanctuary that would ‘circle’ us while walking.
Even here in CA hawks and eagles are nearby. Have most of my life had a small well-trained dog to walk, always with a sturdy shoulder harness, as our first trainer instructed.
One afternoon about 4pm walking 3-year old, MissGoGoQadash in Monterey, stepped off a sidewalk to see a momma raccoon four feet behind us! Thankfully could quickly pull her up in my arms and back away, as she then headrd to the tall oak tree where her babies probably were waiting.
Another reason to pray daily and often for wisdom, safety, and The Good Lord’s protection for us and those we love…

The gator was well known and had a name???!!!??
WHY would you walk Fluffy so close to the water?
Sad, but completely avoidable.

I did not watch the video but I question the fact that it would be shown. Why? The family and friends must be devastated and to have the attack put out there where it can be shown to millions is bad judgment. Am I missing something? Losing a loved one it so hard but when it happens in such a violent way viewing it must be haunting. You could never get those images out of your head. My condolences to the family. I cannot imagine the horror that are experiencing. God comfort them.

Alligators are territorial. There are Life Guards at the beach. Maybe they should have Life Guards at the lake to look out for alligators.

When you live in gator country you best accept the fact that you are on their menu and act accordingly.

If you’re in gator country assume every body of water has a gator in it…and don’t get too close.

I live on an island not far from the one where poster #1 used to live. There’s a pond across the street from my house and there are also signs posted which say, “Caution, Alligators May Be Present”. We heed those signs.

I grew up in South Florida - 1970s and lived in an apartment on which we had a canal behind us. My brothers and friends would fish there almost everyday - tossed the brim back into the water as our Mother refused to eat fish from those canals. Back in the 1970s - alligators were endangered and you would have to go to the Everglades to see one - if lucky, BUT even then we were always told to stay a certain distance away from the edge of the water and certainly don't let your pets in the water. Sorry for this woman, but a preventable accident.
I just hate how everyone gets all emotional about the alligator - large predators see us and our pets as food - it's nothing personal. Now only if we treated serial killers, terrorists, BLM/Antifa, etc the same way as a WILD animal engaging in its natural behaviors.

A friend living in Lake Nona saw a ‘large’ gator emerge from the pond behind her house and ran to photograph it. Instead of slipping back it turned on her. The Sheriff’s people thoroughly chastised her.

YOU WALK A DOG NEAR THE WATER YOU ARE PUTTING OUT A DINNER BILL TO GATORS!!
Want to know the test to see if a Florida lake has gators? Touch the water. If it is wet, it has gators in it.

I don't understand why she wasn't keeping her eyes on the water. She probably could have moved far enough away when the alligator made its first appearance.

Sad, but it looks like a classic case of not being aware of your surroundings.

The alligators in Florida have lost their fear of people. This is due to the massive population explosion and over development. I lived in Florida as a kid and then lived there again in the 80s. These attacks were getting more and more common by the 80s. Be careful.

Years ago, while visiting a friend in Palm Beach, I noticed that people going out into the parking lot of the apartment complex where my friend lived would stop about ten feet from their cars and look under their cars before getting in. The small lake next to the complex had an alligator that killed and ate a dog of one of the residents recently. The complex hired a trapper to catch the gator, but at the time of my visit, hadn't caught it yet. There were small children in the complex, and the apartment complex had a fence built around the playground to protect the kids while they played. It was an interesting time spent with my friend on that trip.

Same as others, I'm not going to watch that video. But as a 41 year Florida native who has spent a lot of time on golf courses (and even got a reputation as a wild and crazy "Florida Man" for grabbing the tail of a 10-footer at the Silver Dollar Golf and Trap Club in front of three pastors from my church), I have learned a bit about alligators. You can bet that any body of fresh water in Florida is likely to contain alligators, which are opportunistic hunters. Walking a dog next to a lake is asking for trouble. What happened to this unfortunate lady is a rare occurrence, but not impossible. If you want to swim in Florida, find a pool. Last year a man retrieving a Frisbee from a lake in a county park was fatally mauled by an alligator. Just don't do it! Stuff happens, and it can get gnarly.

I do understand the desire to save a beloved pet, but going into the water with a 10 ft gastor, unarmed, is extremely foolhardy.
