When Charlene Luo was looking for a condo to buy in 2021, she had two nonnegotiable requirements: one, enough space to host friends for dinner; and two, a gas stove with the capacity to install a powerful range hood. Luo, a data scientist, cooks every day and hosts a supper club from time to time in her Brooklyn apartment. She prefers a gas stove because she cooks with a wok, the deep, sloping pan that is the best vessel for preparing Sichuan dishes. Comments:

Libs keep saying they are not banning gas stoves, but CA and NY already have laws on the books doing just that.

Anyone with half a brain knows that ventilation is the key for any appliance within the home. My mother-in-law had a gas stove with a pilot light. I had always had electric and I could smell the gas when we went over there. I now have a gas stove with electronic ignition and nothing smells here. Users drive improvements. We bought our first house in 1984. Remember the "your house is losing too much heat!" Seal it up! They sent planes over the houses with infrared to identify the bad people with escaping heat. They measured the snow on the roof to see if you had enough attic insulation. Threats, threats, threats. What came next? RADON!!! A whole new regulatory industry. "Get inspected because RADON KILLS!" Buy detectors! "The sky is REALLY falling this time!" They finally admitted that sealing up your house tightly wasn't always a good thing. Houses need to breathe and a few cracks in the window sealant wasn't a bad thing. Heard a lot about Radon lately?

Re #1, her pilot light was faulty. I have had 6 pilot lights on the vintage gas stove in my kitchen and 1 in my water heater and another in a huge old gravity flow furnace. Never a whiff of gas. Gas is odorless; the smell is an additive so that a leak will be apparent. A burning pilot light should emit no odor. In most areas the local gas company will check it out free of cost.

Gas range tops are flat out superior in speed and control to electric, and especially in EFFICIENCY. Electric heaters waste 2/3 of the energy in the coal or gas used to make the electricity. Gas for a range top is essentially 100% going to heating the pan. Electric versus gas ovens......IMO, smaller difference. The electric broiler is handier than most gas broilers, but the oven itself....gas works very well. I cooked some whole wheat bread yesterday in a gas oven...came out great. I greatly prefer stove top cooking with nat gas or propane.

I seem to recall that Gov Gumbo stopped gas service to new developments in Nuyawk. When I grew up in the 50s gas stoves and gas floor furnaces and panel rays for heat were the norm. I only knew one kid with asthma. As #1 noted these new homes are wrapped tighter than Dick's hat band. It is more likely modern building materials, insulation and lack of fresh air that is the cause of any health problem.

Maybe those idiots in the government contemplating the ban should go to their favorite restaurants and ask the chef what they think about banning gas stoves. My guess is the chef would boot the idiots out of the establishment and ban them for life. Gas stoves are so much more efficient than electric ones are. However, the government can't shut gas stoves off as easily as they can electric ones. Control of population is everything to these nazis.

Take away a leftist's power to control you, and you have one unhappy leftist. Down the road I foresee toilets that have to be flushed 6 times. Already in some interstate rest stops I have seen "flushless" urinals, whatever that means. I have learned that we already have "green" dishwashers with a 3-hour cycle time. Yay!

#2 is correct. It’s impossible to use a wok properly on an electric stove. Back during my 40 plus years in the insurance business I got to inspect several Asian restaurants. They all used gas with the woks sitting in a sort of well so the gas flame could heat all sides of the wok.

PORT-AU-PRINCE - Haitians desperate for passports to apply for a U.S. migration program crowded local migration centers, according to videos shared on social media on Friday, crushing through small doorways and scaling the outside of stairways. Videos from Haiti's Lalue migration office and an improvised center at a sports facility in the capital Port-au-Prince show people climbing on railings of stairs and being crushed as they fight their way through crowds, clutching document envelopes. The Ivy League school’s Undergraduate Honor Code lays out standards for student conduct that all undergraduate students must abide by and prohibits students from plagiarizing or cheating, according to its website. Experts say it's possible the average price reaches $4 later this year. Here's what to know about gas prices heading into February: How much have gas prices risen? Three years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s not uncommon to see people wearing masks in public. I try not to judge people when I see someone wearing a mask; after all, the person may have a legitimate need to wear a mask. But what I’ve noticed is that there seem to be a lot of healthy younger people — teenagers and people in their early 20s — who wear masks often, and I have a difficult time understanding it. I’ve had a theory about this phenomenon for some time. I think some people like to keep masking because it makes them feel anonymous. I’m convinced that some people
