House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has officially selected Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) to the House Intelligence Committee. This is despite Speaker Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) promises he would not let that happen, setting up quite the likely showdown between the two party leaders. Earlier this afternoon, Rep. Schiff responded over Twitter, with just the kind of response you'd expect. The tweet includes a letter from Jeffries to McCarthy making his case to name Schiff and Swalwell to the committee.

Comments:

I believe the ball is in your court Mr. Speaker. What say you? Or better yet, what are you going to do? We all await with bated (baited?) breath.

This should be a pretty easy battle for the Speaker, just following precedence of the prior Speaker. Hackeem and his hacks can go pound sand. Nan set the stage, McCarthy just needs to follow the same script.

I am hoping that by Jefferies nominating Schiff and Swalwell to the Intel Committee and McCarthy saying Nope to their nomination, it is seen as an invitation to reporters/journalists to actually do their jobs an delve into Schiff and Swalwell's records and the reasons that McCarthy wants to deny them a seat on the Intel Committee. If the journalists were honest (wishful thinking, I know), they would splash the truth about Schiff and Swalwell across the headlines and they would be driven from Congress.

# 4 Nope, the mainstream media will not touch Swalwell who would normally be denied any kind of classified security clearance in any other circumstance, other than some cursory dismissive comments because they don't go there, just like they avoided reporting on the FBI induced censorship at Twitter, etc., ignoring a big story.

Setting aside their criminal behavior, how could these two qualify to be on an "intelligence" committee anyway? It's not a proper fit. It would be like putting white members on the Congressional Black Caucus.

McCarthy should state how neither would clear a background check, and question why Jeffires would even consider such a placement in the first place except to be partisan. Then, reject their assignments stating national security concerns.

I do not profess to know the ins and outs but it seems to me that if McCarthy can deny a seat on a committee to a member of another party then when the d's are in charge again all committees will be 100% d members.

America's Civil War, which raged from 1861 to 1865, was by far the bloodiest conflict in our history. Original estimates put the death toll at about 620,000, including some 360,000 Union and 260,000 Confederate dead. More recent estimates of the carnage are even higher: 750,000 to 850,000. The Battle of Antietam on Sept. 17, 1862, at Sharpsburg, Maryland, still ranks as the bloodiest day in U.S. history, with nearly 23,000 casualties on both sides, including 3,675 killed in action. How does a country possibly recover from a calamity so huge?

The 1960s revolution was both anarchic and nihilist. But it was waged against—not from—the establishment. Hippies and the Left either attacked institutions or, in Timothy Leary fashion, chose to “turn on, tune in, drop out” from them. The current revolution is much different—and far more dangerous—for at least three reasons. The current Left has no intention of “dropping out.” Why would it? It now controls the very institutions of America that it once mocked and attacked—corporate boardrooms, Wall Street, state and local prosecuting attorneys, most big-city governments, the media, the Pentagon, network and most of cable news, professional sports, Hollywood, music, television, K-12 education, and academia.

If you are trying to make sense of how our nation has become so toxic, a good starting point is the Supreme Court’s 1964 decision in New York Times v. Sullivan. That case radically altered existing law so that, for the first time in our history, it was impossible for any “public figure” to bring a successful defamation suit. There can be no better example of the horrid effect of that decision than a recent race-based defamation against Governor Ron DeSantis. Recently, the DeSantis administration sent a letter to the College Board informing it that the State of Florida would not allow a proposed AP African-American Studies curriculum
