Republican Kevin McCarthy has been elected as the new US Speaker after winning the 15th vote following chaotic scenes in Congress.
Mr McCarthy's party had taken control of the House – the US lower chamber – following the midterm elections in the autumn, with a slim 222-212 majority.
Usually, election of the Speaker follows seamlessly, as a formality, with the leader of the largest party a shoo-in for the job.
However, recent splits in the Republican party meant that did not happen until the 15th round of voting. In the 14th ballot, Mr McCarthy received 216 votes - one shy of the number needed for a victory - as a small faction

Thus ensuring two more years of zero representation in Washington. McCarthy is just another pathetic addition to America's leadership void.

Hakeem Jeffries’ remarks sound like a man who thinks he has been elected president, upstaging the election of Kevin McCarthy. Classless.

I listened to the first 20 mins of the Snake Jeffries, giving his stump speech.
No McCarthy fan, but the Communists know how to ruin everything.
Mc’s first order of business should be to strip him of committee assignments.

So, as so many of us cynics predicted, nothing will change. The R party is hopelessly corrupt, cowardly, and beyond redemption. Too bad. It looked like we had a good start there.

Please forgive the second post. One man tonight praised his party. The other praised his nation. I need not say which was which.

Do not trust Kevin, period, no joke. He is beholding to the K street crowd. Keep a close eye on what he does and doesn't do as speaker.

Recently, an abundance of criticism on a variety of issues has been aimed at President Trump which suggests the possibility of an organized effort to undermine him as he prepares to campaign for the 2024 presidential election. It is sincerely hoped that his longtime supporters will not fall victim to such an effort and take heart in his having kept his promises in the past and trust him to do so again. President Trump has steadfastly expressed his support and confidence in Kevin McCarthy as Speaker and it seems not only fair to President Trump, but respectful as well to take a wait-and-see attitude about Speaker McCarthy’s leadership in the House.
“A leader in the Democratic Party is a boss, in the Republican Party he is a leader.” (Harry S Truman) ~~ The transition between Nancy Pelosi and Kevin McCarthy will be an interesting contrast.

Re #8~ Opening paragraph was omitted. Should read:
Friday evening, prior to the final vote, President Trump issued a statement via Truth that is very optimistic and very encouraging about the intense negotiations that took place which will ultimately make “the Republican Party STRONGER, and more UNITED than ever before. OUR NATION IS AT STAKE. Stay tuned and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

#6, You hit the nail on the head. The two men’s comments could not have been more different. When Jeffries was speaking he reminded me of Barack Obama when he spoke at the DNC Convention in 2004 and I got the same smarmy arrogant politician vibe. McCarthy said all the right things, but will he actually follow through? I would like to believe that he will surprise me and rise to the occasion and fulfill the promises he made in his remarks. It was a very good speech because it put the emphasis on the country. As much as I may have grave reservations about him, I hope and pray he feels the weight of his office and realizes that he can be an agent of good and the much needed change in the House. May the mantle of responsibility to the American people weigh heavily on his shoulders and I pray that not a day goes by that he does not understand the positive change he can make as the leader of the House. He can be a positive force for good and I pray he goes down that road and rejects the status quo. The ball’s in his court.

Problem with McCarthy is that he is a warmonger. Most Republican and Democrat congressmen are too. War is not the answer.

This is how political business in DC should be conducted - much ado about everything.
McCarthy is now figuratively "wounded" and "bleeding out" someplace in the woods.

I'm glad there was a fight inside the Republican party over leadership and changing the status quo. Perhaps this will cause some change for the better. It is clear that the Dem sheeple still vote as they are told.

Well at least he is on notice that some members will continue to fight him if he does not live up to his agreement. One of those concessions, I understand, is his removal, so he will be walking on eggs so to speak. Certain members voted present and still not for him by name Time will tell

Everyone here is allowed your opinion, but keep this in mind, if you support Trump then your going to have to accept McCarthy. Trump supported him from the beginning and don’t think for one minute Trump wasn’t making phone calls to get the job done. I’m happy that it took 15 rounds, it showed that there is fight within the party. Concessions were made and I don’t believe they will be thrown out in the parking lot. There are things happening, small things that are being taken for granted. Twitter is exposing corruption, Pelosi, Cheney , Faucci and that little weasel from Illinois…gone. CNN dumping a bunch of corruption out on the street. I’m hoping and believing that we are slowly turning the corner. Oh yeah, Kari Lake may not be winning her trial but she is now headed to the Arizona Supreme Court, she just might win. In my 63 years of life I believe the corruption started they day they shot JFK.

Jeffries’ speech was inflammatory He is a rude hack. And of course, the close of Jeffries’ talk was all about him. Jeffries deserved to be soundly booed. At the least, GOP members should have turned their backs. Get along Kevin’s speech was measured and gracious. When he mentioned border security, I did not believe him. We’ll learn right away if Kevin is willing to play hardball. One of the first tests is whether McCarthy follows through on his pledge to not give committee assignments to Omar, Schiff and Swalwell. Cori Bush should also be kicked committees for her racist tweet directed at Congressman Donalds.

#21, the Arizona Supreme Court shot Kennedy? Who knew? {No offense. I know what you were saying :) }
As for McCarthy, he should be holding onto his speakership by a thread with conservatives watching his every move, ready to pounce at the first sign that he is selling out. He talks a good game but he never seems to deliver.

#21~ Among comments being about Kevin McCarthy becoming Speaker is a reminder of the meeting at Mar-a-Lago between President Trump and Kevin McCarthy on January 28, 2021. Speculation is that a plan was made and the “team behind the scenes” performed brilliantly to get concessions that “removed the unlimited power that Pelosi created and abused as Speaker.” If there is credence to that speculation, Speaker McCarthy may turn out to be a surprisingly effective and appreciated leader. Regardless, prayers are powerful and sorely needed on behalf of this country for its leadership and preservation as brilliantly established, through their own prayers for guidance, by America’s Founding Fathers.

For Heaven's sake, give the man a chance. I feel certain Gaetz & Borbert will be there every step of the way to cause trouble for him. I'd like nothing better than to smack that woman! Her appearances on Hannity showed her personality perfectly. Trouble all the way.
