On the 15th ballot over a series of four days, Rep. Kevin McCarthy finally won the coveted title: Speaker of the House.
'That was easy, huh?' McCarthy began in his victory speech - shortly after South Carolina Representative Mike Rogers had to be held back from attacking Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz.
The two Republicans almost came to blows over Gaetz's refusal to back McCarthy during the 14th vote, costing him that contest, with the violent clash coming as tempers frayed over the mammoth voting-process.

The list of "concessions" McCarthy yielded to are hardly controversial from a conservative viewpoint. They are standard conservative base items and about dm time. If it took 14 votes to get them fine with me.
You know he won't do move the ball one inch to the right beyond the concessions.

Please tell me what makes McCarthy soooo special that he needed to humiliate the Republican party with 15 rounds of voting. Is he the Republican "Heismen trophy" winner ready to lead us to the Championship .....or the 'owner's' favorite son (US Chamber, K St Lobbyists, etc). And while you're at it, let me know why there was zero consequences for leadership --- McConnell, McCarthy & Ronna Romney -- for their failure in at least the last two election cycles.

Does anybody believe McCarthy will follow through with the promises he made? He's been a RINO hack for so long now, it'll be exceptionally difficult to change his allegiance from K Street to America.

Matt Gaetz is my Representative...... think I’ll send him some money today. McCarthy is a mistake. Time will bare that out.

The definition of insanity: doing things the way they have always been done, and expecting different results.
Trump has been our only attempt at change, and so much changed in four short years!
The Uniparty is jerking us back into line, and many republicans thoughtlessly comply.
"Mr. Gaetz goes to Washington." And they held him under water in the swamp.

It seems Mike Rogers has gone full NAZI, "If you don't vote for whom I choose , I'm gonna kill you!" What an ass! He most certainly doesn't belong in the Government of the United States.

We need to form a new party and find some way to exclude the Swamp Critters, or at least limit their power.
Either that, or we need a new Revolution, and exile or execute the Swamp Critters who have harmed us, for so long.

They will issue a subpoena, a liar will testify and the DOJ will totally ignore it. That is how a swamp stays in power. Expect corruption and you won't be disappointed.

The headline is a farce. I do not like the outcome but this was the first actually democratic process to occur in congress for years. Fascist prefer backroom deals and no debate. Omnibus anyone?

I appreciate the Representatives who held out for some long overdue changes to how Washington works. It took 15 votes to accomplish this. So what? Republicans have never marched in lockstep like the Democrats do. This can be good and bad. There wasn’t one Democrat who would dare not vote for Jeffries whether they liked him or not.

I saw a lot of people talking to Gaetz after the vote, but I didn't see any confrontation that required someone to be held back. Who did Gaetz want as speaker? That's one thing in watching I never heard. I think people were getting frustrated because the 20 or so who were holding out seemed to be happy with the concessions that McCarthy agreed to, and Gaetz and Borbert holding out seemed to them to as if they were throwing a tantrum. They got what they wanted from McCarthy, so move on.

When the Country most needed an Iron Fisted AG we instead ended up with a limp wristed and compromised Bill Barr. The holdouts forced an issue where we will soon know whether we have an Iron Fisted Speaker armed with Conservative MOA or a limp wristed Lifer RINO who owes His Soul to the CO. STORE!

Farce, clown show, grandstanding… where are the conservative journalists telling the truth that the majority of freedom loving Americans do not want business as normal and ‘release the kraken’ moments but actual law making based of fiscal conservatism, ie, no more money to Ukraine and build that flippin wall now? Grr so tired of rinos

Democrats put Republicans in jails. Jan. 6 is an example. Republicans hold hearing and punt. Will this change? Probably not. McCarthy will continue to be his candy-ass RINO self.

Notice in the video it’s the GOPe that start swimming around McCarthy like sharks, and the “violence” came from one of them. I know God promised he would never destroy mankind with a flood again, but gosh, DC is so close to the water.

Folks, Mike Rogers did NOT have to be held back from attacking Gaetz. The fact that there's a picture of the sergeant-at-arms HOLDING him back and that many of you take that picture as proof of Rogers' intent is why political discourse is so toxic these days and the dumbing-down of America is so easy. Believing what you're told to believe, whether by outright verbal lies to your face or graphic insinuation.
If you actually watched the proceedings like the T-Tucky nerds did way late last night, you would know that Mike Rogers simply - and calmly . . . with no malice evident on his face or in his body language - came down the aisle and was leaning in to say something when he was weirdly grabbed from behind by this guy who also put his hand on Rogers' face and neck. It looked totally unnecessary.
But I'm not as psychically prescient as these wise DC insiders, pundits, politicians, and pontificaters are, so maybe what's captured in this one still image really is about what one man might do instead of what one swamp system wants people who didn't watch it live to believe.
Have ya'll heard about the violent J6 protesters?

Note to Daily Mail - It wasn't 4 days of farce. This how procedures work in a constitutional republic (cr) - or how things are supposed to work in a (cr), but of course you wouldn't know anything about that living in the socialist hellhole that is Great Britain.

After this debacle that was bound for failure from the outset, let’s hear no more about “party unity”. The whole idea is laughable. Hope Gaetz likes his new cubicle in the Ford Annex basement. Stupid, stupid, stupid politics.

No Daily Mail, the attempt to get an honest conservative as speaker of the house was not a farce. Two things that are farces though are: 1. The Daily Mail rag that purports to report news, and 2. The "Royal Family" is and has been a farce for decades/

I want to know what happened to Marjorie Taylor Greene! She's part of the Freedom Caucus and didn't support them in their fight for fiscal responsibility (1.7 Trillion Dollar Omnibus Bill, the last straw). Is she a McCarthy Toadie? She lost my respect for not being part of the Terrific 20. Courageous Rep. Lauren Boebert made MTG look bad and part of the Swamp.

LOL, #29 . . . if you classify as "failure" what the Founding Fathers would have classified as successful implementation of the system of representative republicanism they established in the first place, maybe Politburo-style "unity" would be more to your liking - the Sino-Soviet model of unity where the designated nominee gets 100% of the vote. Every time.
