Accused Idaho killer Bryan Kohberger grew up in an apparently average family with a “warm-hearted” mother, records and witnesses attest. Kohberger, 28, was arrested Dec. 30 at his parents’ home in Albrightsville, Pa., almost seven weeks after the stabbing deaths of University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, in their off-campus house in Moscow on Nov. 13.

From the financial data it looks like his parents liked to live higher on the hog than they could afford and then dump their debt. Not my kind of people.

I'd understand focusing on the parents if the killer was a young teenager who used a gun that was purchased for him by mom or dad, but that's not the case. Why is the media putting the accused's parents and sibling's lives on display?

I have to wonder how that conversation went. "Hey Dad, I have gotten myself in a mess by killing people. I am sort of freaking out. Would you come get me?" Dad had the money to fly to Spokane on short notice and gas up the car for a cross country trip. Perhaps bailing their son out from his troubles, regardless of finances, was a pattern for this family.

Re #2, they don’t look the type. My two bits say it was spent on their kids’ educatiions - including college housing and postgraduate studies. Dad is clearly blue collar. Mom and he do not dress or look like “big spenders”.

Re #4, je was going home for Christmas and asked Dad to come out and drive with him. I know Dads who’d be thrilled to do a cross country drive with their only son. We don’t have to crucify the parents.

There's a limit to how much parents should be held responsible for their childrens' actions. His parents probably knew he was weird and might have had mental issues, but lots of people are like that and don't commit murders. His parents were probably gobsmacked when he was arrested.

Until we know more of what this family is like - I say leave them alone for now. Of course no one in the legacy media questions (to their faces) the parenting skills of Joe and Jill Biden....

To answer your question about why the media would focus on the parents, it’s pretty simple. It makes money for them. They would do it to anyone to make a buck, but Paul Pelosi, of course. There are some who are untouchable. Look what power they have. Epstein, Maxwell, Bankman-Fried, and Biden’s boy are examples of how the media manipulates the narrative. We would have an entirely different country if the media had any integrity. Unfortunately, they are propagandists of their own leftist ideology and there is no honor among them.

Somebody wann 'splain to me what this guy's parents have to do with anything? I could understand if they were somehow implicated in the crime, planning, conspiring, aiding/abetting, etc., but so far there is nothing to suggest this other than the fact that his father drove out to pick him up. If that's supposed to be enough, then every perp's parents can be equally the subject of inquiry. If only the media showed such interest in, say, Joe Biden's involvement in the pay-for-play activities of his "smartest person I know" son, Hunter.

It's possible the family is pretty close to normal and just had an odd kid. But many mass killers had a troubled or strange past. The mother of Gary Ridgway (Green River Killer) bathed him until he was 14 years old and was very domineering. Ted Bundy was born out of wedlock and the family concocted a lie to cover it up. His biological father was unknown to all but his mother, which he resented. Most other killers had a bad childhood is some way.

The impression I have gotten from what I read is that he is probably on the autism spectrum. Social awkwardness, flat affect, etc. Not that that would make him a killer, but it might explain why he didn't know how to handle rejection from a girl or a social group. And it doesn't have anything to do with his parents, or with how he was raised. JMHO.

This explains a lot as to how this monster got so twisted that he felt compelled to butcher four students while they were asleep. Just the fact his own family felt compelled to disguise themselves tells me that they seem pretty sure he could have done the deed.

Mr McCarthy's party had taken control of the House – the US lower chamber – following the midterm elections in the autumn, with a slim 222-212 majority. Usually, election of the Speaker follows seamlessly, as a formality, with the leader of the largest party a shoo-in for the job. However, recent splits in the Republican party meant that did not happen until the 15th round of voting. In the 14th ballot, Mr McCarthy received 216 votes - one shy of the number needed for a victory - as a small faction
