"This would be the greatest regulatory overreach in American maritime law" — that’s how Frank Hugelmeyer describes a proposal by the Biden administration to limit the speed of all motorboats over 35 feet from Florida to Massachusetts. "Not only are they creating a serious safety issue, they are creating a massive negative economic impact."
Hugelmeyer is president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), and he is just one of a growing number of voices expressing outrage over the proposal put forward by the U.S. Commerce Department under the auspices of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
"It’s stupid," said Jeff Angers, the president of the Center for Sportfishing Policy.

10 knots is barely moving in open waters. I'm sure they can devise some kind of sound to ward off the whales. Can't whales hear for miles?

Right Whale migration routes are for the most part in INTERNATIONAL waters . I would love to know how many Right Whales have lost their lives to boaters. As an aside lets make sure cruise ships and Coast Guard ships are restricted to under 35 mph and don't forget the drug runners. Pure B S

No one is home. The man who's the putative POTUS is gonzo; daft; lunatic. He isn't just senile. He is insane.
Those around him pulling all the levers are evil, are haters of the USA, haters of us. They are happy to see the rapid descent. No patriot is allowed to weigh in... no democracy there, not even a scintilla. This truly is a seditious cabal.
Meanwhile the collaborators in McConnell and others take up the rear and wave off those who might offer resistance.
This is how bad things are. And POTUS runs amok, promising billions and billions while robbing the people of the treasure of the Republic. He is insane. Listen to that demonic laugh; look at that sneering, twisted mouth condemning fellow citizens; watch the babbling prolixity uttering inanities.

Does this impact freighters? Many of them went to the east coast for unloading since the west coast is thoroughly screwed up. Slow those freighters down!
Democratic political strategy: If it is bad for the US, do it!
Republican political strategy: Follow Democratic lead.

What are right whales, anyway? Is it white whales? All whites are under attack.

This is reminiscent of Atlas Shrugged where the government regulated the rail and steel industries.

Remember when Jimmuh Carter single handedly destroyed the yachting industry and thousands of jobs? I do... This is absurd, but hey, most boaters are white Republicans, right? Who cares?

Notice how they say "the Biden Administration". It isn't Joe, because Joe spends his time trying to find the bathroom. It's the wackos pulling his strings who are trying to destroy everything good.

Why don't they do what they really want to do: Ban ALL means of transportation and recreation , except for the political elite.
I bet John Kerry will still be able to run his yachts as fast as he wants.

Who in NOAA came up with this bonehead idea? Because 5 whales have been killed by boats in 15 years they want to impose that speed limit within 100 miles of shore line. The odds of you winning the lottery are greater that another whale being killed by a boat. Based upon NOAAs logic, why shouldn't all highways and surface street speed limits be set a 10 mph as well. There are more traffic deaths than whale deaths. This shite must stop.

Awww gee..."Three letters...J...O...B...S!" They will hire thousands to place millions of speed limit signs throughout US Territorial waters, every coastal policeforce will get armored highspeed patrol boats to hand out tickets...camouflaged of course so they can create speed traps,
maybe a whole new federal agency JUST to give boat speeding tickets, and check seat belts, sobriety, kiddie seats, pollution controls, turn blinkers...
Apparently the don't keep up with actual boating news...SAILBOATS now do over 10knots regularly, some 30knots +

#8, it was George H.WW. Bush who agreed to a luxury tax on yachts, expensive cars, expensive wrist watches and the like.
Jimmy Carter did lots of damage to the American economy, but I don't think he caused the yacht buildrers depression.

At 10 miles an hour, a boat is literally plowing water. The boat sucks gasoline, is less maneuverable, and just wallows in the water. A properly trimmed boat, at the proper speed gets on plane and skims on top of the water.
I can tell you, no one on the open water will abide by a speed limit.
