Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is fast emerging as a top 2024 presidential contender capable of beating both Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, an early election poll suggested on Tuesday.
The new USA Today/Suffolk University survey shows that a majority of GOP voters want Trump to pass the torch to the 44-year-old Republican governor - despite having declared his own third White House campaign last month.
And while the ex-president trails Biden in a theoretical head-to-head rematch, DeSantis holds a narrow lead over the Democrat of about four points.

Washington - Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm announced a "major scientific breakthrough" Tuesday in the decades-long quest to harness fusion, the energy that powers the sun and stars.
Researchers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California for the first time produced more energy in a fusion reaction than was used to ignite it, something called net energy gain, the Energy Department said. The achievement will pave the way for advancements in national defense and the future of clean power, Granholm and other officials said.
"This is a landmark achievement for the researchers and staff at the National Ignition Facility who have dedicated their careers to seeing fusion ignition become

Twitter's former censor has been forced to flee the $1.1m Bay Area mansion he shares with his boyfriend after Elon Musk shared part of his thesis which suggested letting children access gay hook-up app Grindr.
Yoel Roth, 34, and his partner Nicholas Madsen, 44, moved out of their two-bed, two-bath property in El Cerrito over fears for their safety, the Washington Post reported.
The tweet said to have sparked the move saw Musk write: 'Looks like Yoel is in favor of letting children being able to access adult internet services in his PhD thesis.'
He shared a screenshot of part of said document.

Earlier today, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell discussed the greatest problem for the Republican Party as it exists with voters. Allowing people to vote is not in the best interests of the Republican Party. If the politicians could just devise a government system that didn’t need voters to support it, things would be much better.
As noted by Mitch McConnell, “Our ability to control the primary outcome was quite limited in 2022 because of the support of the former president. Hopefully in the next cycle, we’ll have quality candidates everywhere.”

The New York Times on Monday declared incoming Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman to be one of its 93 “most stylish” people of 2022, prompting backlash against the paper on social media, including by the Democrat’s wife.
“No, not [John Fetterman]!! Recount!!!,” the senator-elect’s wife Gisele Fetterman wrote on Twitter Monday, reacting in disbelief to the accolade.
The news outlet feted Fetterman, whose usual attire on the campaign trail involved a hoodie, basketball shorts, and sneakers, as a lawmaker that “is going to bring Carhartt to the Capitol,” a reference to the US workwear apparel company.

Winter storms are pummeling the United States, snow is piling up, temperatures are dropping, traffic is snarling and there’s always the threat of thunderstorms and thundersnow. Just like clockwork, the emails, tweets and Facebook posts start flowing. Maybe it's a joke, maybe it's a snarky critique, maybe it's a meme. The words change, but the format is familiar: If global warming is real, why is it so cold out? Scientists likely don't think that joke is as funny as another familiar climate change quip: Never argue about climate change – it always turns into a heated debate. But we asked

Cambridge Dictionary changed the definition of the word “woman” and critics are not happy about it. Christopher Rufo, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute, shared the new definition on Twitter. According to the dictionary, a woman is “an adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.” The dictionary includes two examples of using the word. “She was the first trans woman elected to a national office,” one example states. Another reads, “Mary is a woman who was assigned male at birth.” (Tweet) Attorney Marina Medvin reacted, saying, “Imagine

Grab the popcorn, it’s getting hot between former CIA head John Brennan and Twitter owner Elon Musk.
As we reported, Brennan was infuriated that Musk dared to criticize Dr. Anthony Fauci, saying that his “pronouns” were “Prosecute/Fauci.” But he continued that meltdown with a new tweet saying there needed to be a way to “prevent” people like Musk from being “politically destructive.”(Tweets) “Good people in democracies need a more effective way to prevent attention-craving, emotionally immature, & highly devious individuals, esp those of means, from being socially, culturally, & politically destructive,” Brennan declared. “We certainly seem to have far too many of them lately.”

Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York unsealed charges against disgraced FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, charging him with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and securities fraud, standalone charges of securities fraud and wire fraud, money laundering, and significantly, conspiracy to defraud the United States and campaign finance regulations. The eight charges form the bedrock of the attempt by U.S. prosecutors to pursue Bankman-Fried for his alleged crimes. Federal prosecutors say that Bankman-Fried had been engaging in criminal activity as far back as 2019.
