The Trumpification of Elon Musk

The relentless attacks on Elon Musk since he purchased Twitter should be familiar to most Americans. It’s exactly what Democrats and their media and corporate allies did to demonize Donald Trump. The McCarthyite formula is simple: Claim you are defending high-minded principles (Democracy! The rule of law! Civil discourse!) to justify efforts to delegitimize someone you’ve identified as a political opponent. Democrats denied Trump’s presidency from day one; Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden themselves declared for years that he had stolen the 2016 election. In the name of election integrity, Democrats turned a bogus conspiracy theory cooked up by Clinton’s campaign about Russian collusion into years of official investigations that

Let's stop being so naive. It's not the left or the "commie Dems", but the entire political establishment that is after those who threaten the UNIPARTY scheme by exposure. So long as the American public is ignorant, or in a state of denial, the game goes on unabated. That existential threat was the reason for PDT's four years of dodging kitchen sinks, from rape allegations to twice impeached. It's the reason Musk is being undermined. Both broke from the pack. Both are celebrities. And now both are giant targets. A major difference is that Musk has a giant megaphone in Twitter, and UNIPARTY crowd knows it. It is the dominant force in its market, and replacements fail because they don't have the established reach. No one gives a damn what has been and never were celebrities are doing deserting Twitter. Where are they going? Back to oblivion, if that lucky.

Re naivete, not sure who poster is referring to. I don’t think of LDotters as being naive. Anyone who has been here for years - some of us for decades - has no interest in so-called “celebrities” nor the MSM. The point about targeting of those who buck the Uniparty is valid, but most here understand that as well. Poster would probably be better-received if he didm’t talk down to the forum. Superciliousness is a turnoff.

#2 - "Not being sure who (I) was referring to" apparently didn't hinder directing your remarks my way. The repeated meme from J. Peder Zane and others is that our current political situation is a partisan product of "Democrats and their media and corporate allies." Others will pile onto the RINOs. Believe what you will. That's America. (It seems you and I are in general agreement regarding the political state of our republic and national political establishment as it involves the major parties and their patrons.) Speaking of longevity in this forum, I have been active in this forum for decades myself, through the Bushies, McCainiacs, Romneybots, and now Trumpistas. Each in their respective era demanded full assent. Some left this forum as a result. Like you, I give an opinion. You're entitled to yours, and entitled to ignore mine for whatever reason, including my superciliousness. That's America, too.

Since early voting commenced in the Georgia runoff between Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker, the corporate media has made much of the former’s funding advantage as if this is somehow unusual for an incumbent seeking reelection. Far more newsworthy are the sources of Warnock’s cash. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) shows that Warnock has received individual contributions totaling $65.2 million, of which 88.8 percent came from out-of-state donors.

President Biden's rented Secret Service vehicles burst into flames in a parking lot Monday, just one day after he left his Nantucket vacation. Biden spent Thanksgiving on the ritzy Massachusetts island with his family last week. The Secret Service rented five vehicles from Hertz to carry the president and his family, and all five of them caught fire in the parking lot, according to footage first obtained by the Nantucket Current. Footage shows firefighters spraying down the smoldering remains of one vehicle's engine block. The five vehicles included a Chevy Suburban, Ford Explorer, Infiniti QX80, Ford Expedition, and a Jeep Gladiator.

Did the midterm results give Joe Biden a boost for a re-election bid? The Wall Street Journal’s James Freeman made that case sardonically shortly after the expected red wave made barely a ripple in national results. Democrats, expecting to get blown out, had been arranging Biden’s retirement … and now have no standing to push an LBJ strategy for 2024:Here’s the deal: The comeback kid from Claymont can now argue that his leadership prevented the kind of midterm drubbing frequently suffered by the party of a first-term president. Initial data from the November 2022 general election indicates more than 25,000 Georgians may have voted illegally in the general election. And the problem appears poised to repeat itself when voters cast their ballots in the state’s runoff election for senator on Dec. 6, 2022. Absent a win by a substantial margin by either Republican challenger Herschel Walker or Democrat incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock, litigation, with the potential ordering of a new election, seems likely — a scenario that would have proved disastrous to the country had control of the Senate remained in play. In a complaint filed earlier this month with the Georgia State Board of Elections, Mark Davis,

The AP hasn’t gotten around to correcting its headline over the story reporting the word of the year according to Merriam-Webster. At the moment the headline reads: “What headline? ‘Gaslighting’ Merriam-Webster’s word of 2022.” That “What headline?” can’t be right, can it? This must be the AP’s “Mush from the wimp” moment. Speaking of mush from the wimp, I give the Biden administration credit for the rise of “gaslighting” to prominence in 2022. However, you will find nary a hint of the administration’s possible contribution to its popularity in the AP story. I pride myself in not having used the word so far in 2022. It has become a mind-numbing cliché.

The Georgia Supreme Court Wednesday reinstated the state's ban on abortions after roughly six weeks of pregnancy. In a one-page order, the high court put a lower court ruling overturning the ban on hold while it considers an appeal. Abortion providers who had resumed performing the procedure past six weeks after the lower court ruling will again have to stop. The order said seven of the nine justices had agreed to the decision. As a tactical concern, the House GOP’s decision to open an investigation into Biden family corruption is questionable. It promises limited political return. It would serve Republicans, and the country, far better if the House focused on a hyper-politicized Justice Department that targets the political opposition, labels concerned parents “domestic terrorists,” and ignores violence aimed at pregnancy centers, for starters. None of that, however, means there isn’t sufficient circumstantial evidence suggesting Joe Biden not only lied about knowing his son was favor-trading on the family name with corrupt autocracies, but that he was a beneficiary of those business dealings. Indeed, precedent says we Republicans have a duty to “democracy” to investigate.

Now that the Republicans have eked out a majority in the House of Representatives, one midterm mystery remains: Who will Georgia send to the U.S. Senate? Because incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock couldn’t convince a majority of Georgia voters to reelect him on Nov. 8, he must face GOP challenger Herschel Walker in a Dec. 6 runoff. Democratic angst over the rematch was such that they sent controversial Clinton attorney Marc Elias to drag Warnock over the finish line.

Don’t be fooled. In the promotional interviews for her new book, The Light We Carry, Michelle Obama insists that the book is simply her personal “toolkit” about how she deals with the challenges of “uncertain times.” No, The Light We Carry is not a self-help book. It is Michelle’s crafty attempt to position herself to be the Democrat nominee for president in 2024. In fact, it is Michelle’s second autobiography, a follow up to her wildly successful 2018 memoir, Becoming. As it would have been awkward for Michelle to write a second self-promotional autobiography entitled “Becoming Part II,” the new book is released under the ruse of a self-help guide.

The Labor Department approved the rule last week, just two days before the Thanksgiving break. A reparations committee in California has suggested that descendants of slaves in the state could be compensated $223,200 each for 'housing discrimination'. The nine-member Reparations Task Force was formed by California Governor Gavin Newsom as part of the country's largest ever effort to address reparations for slavery. A focus of the California task force has been 'housing discrimination' - it has been estimated that it would cost around $569billion to compensate the 2.5 million Black Californians for setbacks between 1933 and 1977, according to the New York Times.  That is more than California's $512.8billion expenditure in 2021 - which included funding for schools, hospitals, universities, highways, policing and corrections.

The judgment would be in keeping with the purpose of acquiring the returns, which Neal has said is examining the way the IRS audits presidents and considering legislative reform to the program, Pelosi added.
