A secret Sept. 1 meeting may have put Hakeem Jeffries on the map to replace California representative Nancy Pelosi’s role as top House Democrat, Politico reports. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York, who chairs the House Democratic Caucus, met up at Clyburn’s office during the summer congressional recess, according to the outlet. Jeffries became aware of a “quiet campaign” from California Rep. Adam Schiff for the speakership, inspiring the New York congressman to fly out to California and speak with Clyburn. At the meeting, Clyburn reportedly expressed his full support for Jeffries’ bid.

President Joe Biden has had a rough week, getting fact-checked by Twitter, delivering angry speeches while avoiding battleground states, and being forced to “moonwalk” away from his ludicrous claim that he would close coal plants all over the country. On Saturday, he was at it again, saying in a speech in Joliet, Illinois that protesters lacked mental acuity.
He was apparently triggered by the demonstrators outside the event who carried signs reading “Socialism Sucks,” “Vote Pro-Life,” and “Where’s Nancy.” His response: (Tweet/Video) I love those signs when I came in. Socialism.

In preparation for upcoming Tuesday’s midterm election, the National Guard will be activating cybersecurity teams in 14 states to assist in keeping election authorities’ networks secure from cyber attacks and from any malicious activities, Politico reported.
“The move is part of a wider effort to ensure the midterms are secure from cybersecurity threats, which have loomed large in recent years since Russian interference operations in 2016,” the outlet added.
During a press conference on Friday, Washington Air National Guard Brig. Gen. Gent Welsh said, “One of the things making a lot of this possible are states that’ve just decided to do it.”
Outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) endorsed Democrat Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) over her Republican challenger, Yesli Vega, just days before the midterm election.
Spanberger is a far-left Democrat running against Vega, former President Donald Trump’s choice to represent Virginia’s seventh congressional district.
