When Ron DeSantis is consulting renowned experts about whether or not to run for president in 2024, the man he is most likely to listen to is President Chris Christie. Well, not literally listen. He’ll instead learn from the potential prezzy who ended up presiding in network green rooms instead of the White House because he declined to run when he had his big – well, everything about him is big – chance in 2012. The Gov will also look to the lessons of President Mario Cuomo. These two guys hesitated and missed their window, just like there are some folks – Mitt Romney, John Kerry, Felonia Milhouse von Pantsuit

There is enough to deal with that are of high priority, without this speculation. Presidential runs go on for 2 years, so this looks like the back burner for now.

He makes a good case for DeSantis to run now, but there seems to be a glaring omission: Wouldn't a Trump/DeSantis election rivalry split the Republicans and leave the losing side with such bitterness that the Dems could actually win? Nixon waited, ran, and won. Reagan waited, ran, and won. DeSantis could do the same.

If DeSantis decides to run against President Trump in 2024, and manages to beat him in the primaries, a large percentage of the MAGA voters will see him as another back-stabbing turncoat and will sit home in disgust on election day. Many of the MAGA voters are no longer Republicans after watching Republican after Republican stab President Trump in the back after the 2020 election theft by Lyin' Joe bidet!!!! They will not vote for anyone that they see as an evil backstabber even if that means letting the Demon-Rats have it. Trust me -- if you don't understand the depth of disgust that so many MAGA voters have for the mainstream Republi-Can't Party these days, you had better take it seriously!!! And no Republican can win in 2024 with 40,000,000 or so conservative voters sitting home in disgust!!!!!
No, DeSantis is young, conservative, and very smart!!! If he serves as Donald Trump's biggest cheerleader in 2024, he will have the full support of the MAGA voters, as well as the support and monetary backing of President Trump, in 2028!!!!! He can bide his time continuing to serve as governor of Florida and continuing to build up his conservative credentials!!!

If DeSantis wants someone's advice about running for president, Chris Christie is the LAST person he needs to listen to.

I find it impossible to believe that MAGA voters would not vote for DeSantis if he was to win the 2024 Republican primary. Such a hissy fit would mean they were not really MAGA.
As the article points out the stars are aligning for DeSantis right now and may well be still aligned in 2024. What so many people don’t seem to realize, although the evidence is all around us, is that there are huge numbers of people that hate Trump with a passion that is implacable even though irrational.
Yes, the media would proclaim that DeSantis is Lucifer but there would be the ongoing record of his success as governor to counter the slander. It won’t be so easy to demonize him.
If DeSantis does run and Trump does as well I 2024 I frankly don’t know whom I would vote for and support.

It is DeSanctis’ time. He would be a fool to settle for VP. And risk everything? Time for a Presidential run. President Trump, bless him forever, paved the way but time for the young bulls now.

Disagree. DeSantis is not Christie. He is smarter and understands the country is as fragile as it ever has been, maybe even more so. He knows the stakes and I don’t believe he is willing to split the party for his own personal ego. We do love Ron. He is exactly what we need in 2028 to carry on the work of President Trump. The war will be manageable then and democrats will understand the meaning of the word, defeat. In 2028, DeSantis can move into the Presidency on his terms. He can keep the country going in the right direction which is as important as the clean up on Aisle 5 is going to be once Trump is re-elected.
What Kurt fails to realize is that country trumps ego. Sure DeSantis could make a credible run right now, but why? What good would it to for the country? Let’s get behind the guy who has been fighting since 2015 against the most lawless political party in the history of the country. If the election is free and fair, he wins. He brings back the philosophy of putting this country first which has always been his intention. I do love Ron DeSantis. If PDT chooses not to run, he would be my only choice. However, we have a warrior on a mission and we know he will follow through and will make this country great again. With Ron on the ticket this team is exactly what the country needs. I believe he knows it too. Let Trump finish what he started with his successor by his side and then DeSantis takes the reigns in four short years to continue the biggest turnaround that politics has ever seen.

Excellent article - thanks for posting.
My one clear disagreement with the writer has to do with Mario Cuomo. I don't believe he was ever a viable presidential candidate, and he knew it. He had some sort of personality disorder, which made him seek out fights, usually for no reason. (A friend from graduate school worked for Cuomo, couldn't tolerate loudmouthed Mario, shared some stories with me about Mario's inability to be reasonable.)
A Trump /DeSantis ticket would be great, as would a Trump Pompeo ticket. And if Trump chose not to run in 2024, a Pompeo/DeSantis (or a DeSantis/Pompeo ticket) would be fine.
We also have some good senators - Hawley and Cotton come to mind- but I worry about Sasse slithering his way into the picture.

Kurt is always a good read. Just because he's saying something that some may not like, we shouldn't kick him to the Curb! Right now, Gov. DeSantis IS the Super Star everyone is talking about. That could change tomorrow. The thing is, he won't change the way he's been governing. Those of us who live in FL have been very impressed with his decisions for our State. Would we hate losing him? Absolutely. Would we love to have him as President? Absolutely! We must win this election and I can tell you that there are a lot of MAGA folks who do not want Trump to run again. Too much Drama! Too much Baggage! These are people who backed Trump 100%, but are tired of the constant daggers coming from every direction going to Trump. Now it's the AG of New York. Who will be next? I believe Trump was the best President in my Lifetime. That said, I think DeSantis may just get to that Title if given the chance. We should keep our powder dry until after the Mid-Terms and then see what Trump decides. I truly don't think DeSantis will run if Trump does. However, if he makes that decision and Trump loses, would that then take away the momentum DeSantis has? And, can we survive 4 more years under Democrat Rule? I don't think so! So we need to get behind whoever runs, Trump or DeSantis. No more sticking the Republican nose in the Air and Staying home. That's just cutting off our nose to spite our face...again!

You have to look at the surrounding staff and experienced influencers. Chris Christie is ambitious and although somewhat above it all from the beltway, he is not to be trusted. Populist when it is convenient.
DeSantis would be better to take the cabinet position that allows him free reign to build on what he has. This is a war, we have a general but we need more and at this point he has not faced the gale force winds of the beltway and national media that will try to blow him over, or seek fortification from the establishment.

When people on this board see the Romneybot Bushie loyalists, in all their repetitive monikers, poke their heads up from the tall grass to announce their support, you should immediately reevaluate. If never Trumpers find this guy tolerable, someone is playing this.
Stay the course, Trump 2024, or his designee.

Sometimes Kurt whistles out his butt! What I see here is more of the same from a fairly strong Trump supporter. The gope is trying to establish a clash in the MAGA party. Remember how Ron has been aligning himself with the big donors from the establishment gope...the chambers, rove, big btards who want someone they can control. Take their funding, they control you. Trump is not controlled. I love DeSantis...but now for 2024. IF Trump does not run...OK. To challenge Trump will make Ron take an open stand against Trump...and that will not make 80 million people happy. Ron is strong now...sorta...but he will be devoured by the deep state and donors. And remember, DeSantis was headed to a no win for FL governor...and Trump endorsed him...Trump help him win. Enough.

Consulting anyone for advice from inside the beltway is a huge mistake from the get-go. If Desantis wants to run, do it as Trump's VP pick. Then run for president. I'd vote for either one, however, Desantis needs to stay out of D.C. when seeking advice.

Seems there are lots of Trumpistas with their shorts in a knot to even think about a possible future scenario that doesn't include their hero triumphant. Something to consider: FPDT will be far too busy battling the legal gnats and flies to run for President. The UNIPARTY will not allow Napoleon to return from his Elbe exile this time. His Grande Armee will be left on the beach with their leader likely led off in chains. The moment he files candidacy papers he will be indicted somewhere, perhaps he already has been under seal. He will get the most widely publicized perp walk ever. That FBI search of MAL was just a reminder. Nice foundation wear, Melania.
The UNIPARTY has far too big an investment in running PDT off in '20 to let it slip away. The GOPe doesn't want its "brand" destroyed, either. Mitch has already told the world that the party will NOT bail out Trump on any impeachment again. The handwriting is on the wall. FPDT can read.

I know several MEGA people who stand firmly behind Trump, regardless of election dynamics and circumstances. I also know several MEGA people who love Trump and are grateful for all he did for this country, but prioritize winning above everything else, including Trump. These people see DeSantis as our best chance of winning. I guess I fall in with this camp.

I'm supporting and voting for Trump. If Trump decides not to run I'll consider who he endorses. I'll be extremely disappointed if Trump does not run. He's will always be my first choice.
If Trump does not run the field is wide open as far as I'm concerned. Rand Paul would be my second choice after Trump..
If any of them stab Trump in the back they are off my list and there will be no way in hell I'll vote for any of them. I'll consider them part of the uniparty establishment.

Can’t agree with this article…
We all know the three I’s ~ Inflation, Immigration, and Inoculation ~ currently on the Nov 8th ballot.
We also remember being energy independent [a fourth “I”] and our American President being healthy, cognizant, and well-respected around the world just two years ago, despite McConnell and McCarthy.
Let’s first see if the two Mc’s can be wisely replaced after January 2023 before we vote in ‘24.
Vote then volunteer as an Observer in your precinct to preclude local evil. And keep your local True the Vote advised of where something looks suspicious, especially where there are Dominion machines possibly being tabulated again from Europe!
And pray harder, remembering the Bible President Trump had in the Oval Office, after those sisters off the Hebrides’ Islands years ago were so faithful in prayer.
