To say that the Biden administration failed to think through the consequences of confrontation with Russia over Ukraine might be the understatement of the 21st century. Western observers are shocked—shocked —to learn that Putin will ally himself with our enemies. Wrote the Daily Telegraph on July 19, “Desperate for new friends, Vladimir Putin plots unholy alliance with Iran and Turkey.” This isn’t desperation, though, but a trade-off that Russia has pondered for nearly twenty years. Putin always has had the option to turn spoiler and to use Russia’s considerable capabilities in military technology to make life miserable for America and its allies, most of all Israel. Goldman can write as much as he wants about how Russian Ukraine actually is. I know from years of working with many Ukrainian scientists and engineers that huge numbers of them despise Russia and do NOT want Russia controlling their lives or their children's lives. That is why they are fighting. The Ukrainians that I know see themselves as very much NOT Russians and don't want to be. Putin is a very dangerous person, and a total megalomaniac without the slightest moral compunction about killin millions, just like evil Joe Stalin.

Whereas Putin's estimation of the consequences of invading Ukraine was a masterstroke of genius? Does anyone honestly believe he expected to be in this situation 5 months ago? With Sweden and Finland joining NATO? And foreign businesses abandoning Russia? Defaulting on loans? Civil aviation choked off from spare parts. This misadventure will go down in history as a terrible miscalculation. Joe's mistake, IMO, was not sending the advanced weapons sooner.

I see commenters here have the monopoly mentality of which Goldman wrote. HISTORY! Lord Acton once mentioned it - but that is history and its lessons yet unlearned. Most Americans reduce everything to personal experiences and live anectdotal lives.

As concerns mount about a possible recession this year, White House National Economic Council director Brian Deese argued that a second consecutive quarter of negative GDP growth was technically “not a recession.” According to Deese, the “technical definition considers a much broader spectrum of data points.” He also emphasized the need to look ahead rather than “technical debates about backward-looking data.” CNN “New Day” host John Berman said, “It sounds like you’re anticipating what will be comments from some saying two quarters of negative growth in a row — that’s a recession.” “Right,” Deese replied. “And certainly, in terms of the technical definition, it’s not a

It is almost with an air of inevitability that the images and hyperventilating coverage of a group of Nazis will sweep across the media landscape with most any political gathering in Florida. The message of a DeSantis connection is clear, and the lasting impression of a growing problem of hatred in Florida is desired. That it is all built on a farcical premise and relies upon a group of stunted dolts is made obvious with any encounter of these "Nationalists Without A Country." This past weekend, the outfit Turning Point USA staged its annual Student Action Summit in Tampa, and the press was focused excitedly on one item.

Former LSU All-American Mondo Duplantis added another medal to his collection Sunday night when he took the gold with a world record in the pole vault on the final day of the world championships in Eugene, Oregon. Duplantis, the silver medalist at the 2019 world championships in Doha, claimed the gold at his second world championships to go with the gold he won at the Tokyo Olympics last summer. This one was a big one. Representing his mother's home country of Sweden, Duplantis broke his own world record when he cleared 20 feet, 4½ inches on his second attempt at Hayward Field. In doing so, Duplantis easily bested American Christopher Nilsen,

Former vice president and global warming activist Al Gore claimed in a pre-recorded interview Saturday that those who deny climate change are comparable to police officers who refuse to enter a school to stop a shooting. In an interview set to air on Sunday, Gore told NBC, “You know the climate deniers are really in some ways similar to all of those almost 400 law enforcement officers in Uvalde, Texas, who were waiting outside an unlocked door while the children were being massacred. They heard the screams, they heard the gunshots, and nobody stepped forward.” Following the Robb Elementary School shooting tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,

The skeptical philosopher David Hume is one of the giants not just of the Enlightenment, but of the whole history of philosophy. But that was not enough to save him from being canceled in his native Scotland. At the instance of “woke” students, who wallow in incorrigible ignorance, David Hume Tower at the University of Edinburgh was re-named “40 George Square.” Hume’s offense was that, while he opposed slavery, there is a footnote in a 1758 essay where he wrote that he was “apt to suspect the negroes to be naturally inferior to the whites.” Now comes the good news: the University’s donors are not as benighted

Since his elevation to the pontificate in 2013, Pope Francis has consistently echoed the globalist narrative that we make sacrifices for the planet in “reparation” for the “sins” committed against her. In just seven decades, America’s conventional (non-organic) farmers increased per-acre corn yields by an incredible 500% – while using steadily less water, fuel, fertilizer and pesticides – feeding millions more people. Among the many reasons for this miracle is their ability to control weeds that would otherwise steal moisture and nutrients from this vital food, animal feed and fuel (ethanol) crop. Long-lasting herbicides don’t just control weeds. They also promote no-till farming, which helps farmers save costly tractor fuel and avoid breaking up soils – thereby reducing erosion, retaining soil moisture, safeguarding soil organisms, and locking carbon dioxide in the soil (reducing risks of “dangerous manmade climate change,” some say).

The race is a re-match from 2018, with Gov. Brian Kemp (R) facing Stacey Abrams (D). While the race was, until recently, considered a "Toss-Up," Cook Political Report has now shifted the race to the "Lean Republican" territory. The World Economic Forum (WEF) is calling for the end of private car ownership in the name of saving the world from climate change by reducing the need for green tech resources. “We need a clean energy revolution, and we need it now,” the WEF begins its article. According to the WEF, critical metals, such as cobalt, lithium, and nickel — all of which are used in “clean energy technologies” — are in short supply. And while the WEF says recycling old tech that uses these metals could lessen the impact of shortages, it’s simply not enough. “The complication is that we do not currently have enough metals in in circulation

Author Jeffrey Frank has written two biographies of American presidents, one about Harry S. Truman and another about the relationship between Dwight D. Eisenhower and his Vice President Richard Nixon. He draws on that knowledge of history to argue that President Biden is doing a poor job preparing VP Harris to succeed him. Vice President Kamala Harris, who was a first-term senator from California before entering the White House, hasn’t been given the sort of immersive experiences or sustained, high-profile tasks that would deepen and broaden her expertise in ways Americans could see and appreciate. In the modern era, of course, a 68-day trip for a vice president would be laughable.

The leak rocked the federal judiciary, the American political scene, and led to an ugly campaign to intimidate Supreme Court justices, inspiring one assassination plot that thankfully went nowhere. Chief Justice John Roberts promised an investigation to identify the leaker, and the pool of suspects seemed relatively small — the justices themselves and their clerks. Almost three months later, though, the leaker has seemingly escaped detection and punishment. Are they even still investigating the leak? The Associated Press can’t even get an answer to that question from the court:

Experts said recently it was a possible crime that could result in him being sent to prison. The report noted Biden was registered as a lobbyist for domestic interests but not under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). In addition, Biden could reportedly face charges regarding tax violations and lying about illegally buying a firearm. Breitbart News reported Wednesday: The probe, which has been ongoing for years and debated for months among Justice Department officials, also centers on the Biden family’s foreign business schemes while Joe Biden was vice president.

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin suggested that abortion bans in some states could actually violate religious beliefs in a column on Sunday. Rubin introduced the subject by referencing a lawsuit brought up by the Jewish Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor against the 15-week abortion ban in Florida. The congregation argued that Jewish law "does not consider life to begin at conception or at 15 weeks" and refusing an abortion could violate their beliefs. Though Rubin questioned whether this would sufficiently infringe on "First Amendment rights and the state constitution’s free-exercise clause," she still considered the issue "important."
