Elon Musk Rides to the GOP's Midterm Rescue

Elon Musk, the mercurial trillionaire, is planning another massive cash binge on behalf of the GOP's midterm campaign that might just be enough to keep the Republicans in power in the House and Senate. In 2024, Musk dropped a cool $260 million to help elect Donald Trump. No word on exactly how much Musk is willing to shell out this election cycle, but it will only add to the Republicans' massive cash advantage over the Democrats for the November contests. "GOP super PACs and committees have a $300 million-plus advantage over their Democratic counterparts — and that doesn't include the $400 million sitting in Trump's MAGA Inc. super PAC," reports Axios.

I'm glad he's doing this. The Republican establishment cannot be counted on to help Republican candidates where it matters, which is probably one reason Virginia is in the state that it's in.

Less than 100 days before the midterms, voters are agitating for wholesale change in Congress and looking to the Democratic Party in hopes of making that happen. Democrats lead Republicans on the generic ballot by 8 points among registered voters, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. Democrats also continue to hold a significant advantage in voter enthusiasm and have a 20-point advantage in preferences among those who say they are extremely motivated to vote. More Americans say the country would be better off (38%) than worse off (33%) if Democrats were to take control of Congress this November, with 29% saying it wouldn’t make a difference.

About a third of Democrats and Democratic-leaning adults identify as democratic socialists, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. They’re some of the party’s staunchest supporters, but many are also raring for a party overhaul at a time when democratic socialists are seeing new momentum at the polls. Building on New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s victory over Andrew Cuomo last year, candidates describing themselves as democratic socialists have secured the Democratic nomination in several US House races around the country, including defeats of incumbent Reps. Adriano Espaillat in New York and Diana DeGette in Colorado.

The diplomatic breakthrough, brokered by his Board of Peace alongside mediators Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, will pave the way for a new Palestinian government in Gaza, Trump said. "Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. This is a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY," Trump said in a Truth Social post.

Anthropic said Thursday that several of its advanced artificial intelligence models broke out of an isolated testing environment, accessed the open internet and independently hacked multiple companies without the AI-maker’s knowledge in three separate incidents dating back to April. In a review published on Thursday night, Anthropic said an unreleased, internal research test model, as well as Opus 4.7 and Mythos 5, were involved. Mythos was released last month to a limited audience of tech companies and cybersecurity researchers, also known as Project Glasswing.

The Seattle Storm apologized after the team’s co-owner Celeste Keaton harassed two teenage fans during a home game over their opposition to trans-identifying males participating in women’s sports. Keaton was fined by the WNBA and suspended from the Storm’s next five home games for berating two teenage girls at Tuesday’s game against the Indiana Fever. The girls were wearing “XX XY Athletics” shirts and holding signs expressing support for Sophie Cunningham, a Fever guard who has spoken out in support of fairness in women’s and girls’ sports.

Spain's socialist government is presiding over a manmade disaster. Stunning images and videos have surfaced of Algerian and Moroccan migrants overrunning the coastal city of Ceuta. Fox News reporter Bill Melugin remarked on the disturbing videos. "This takes me back to Del Rio, TX in 2021 w/ the Haitian surge. Similar images," he remarked. The U.S. military began conducting airstrikes against Iran late Wednesday in retaliation for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacking a U.S. base in Jordan the day before. The U.S. forces began firing at 8 p.m., according to the U.S. Central Command. The IRGC fired five missiles at U.S. forces in Jordan on Tuesday evening. Hours later, the U.S. and Saudi Arabia launched strikes on Iran-backed militias in Iraq, raising the risk of returning the region to all-out war. The fresh round of strikes comes as President Trump warned Wednesday morning in an interview with Fox News that the U.S. will

Google’s crimes include such infamies as ranking its own (free!) flight search services above similar competitors on its search pages. In response, on July 24, President Trump tweeted on Truth Social: The European Union is at it again and, as usual, taking direct aim at GREAT American Companies! ... The establishment has been going all out to weaken Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Democratic Senate primary. They haven't just been backing Haley Stevens with everything they have; they even forced Democratic Party candidate Mallory McMorrow out of the race to give Stevens a clearer path to victory by ensuring the anti-El-Sayed vote could coalesce around one strong candidate instead of being split between two. Needless to say, it hasn't worked. The latest poll numbers show that El-Sayed has been growing in strength and Stevens is slipping.

Last week, Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s short stint as a faux president ended with an embarrassing acknowledgment that he could not, as promised during his campaign, arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. So, this week, Mamdani the Grocer made a reappearance, with details on the five city-run grocery stores that he will open. But rather than deliver discount groceries, Mamdani is selling New Yorkers a bill of goods that will cost them millions.

Dem strategist Mark Penn took to X during the wee hours Wednesday morning to warn the public about "the lie of socialism" represented by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, but it's really a cry for help over what's happening to his party. Before we get to that, however, you need to understand just what a colossal screw-up Mamdani’s pied-à-terre tax really is. Because if what Penn says is correct — and apparently it is — it’s a colossal screw-up by design. And an oh-so-bitter taste of what New Yorkers are stuck with for the next three-and-a-half years. In a piece headlined "Welcome to Socialism,"

What a cowardly and shameful final chapter for Dr. Anthony Fauci, who pleaded the Fifth 111 times in the Senate Wednesday even though he has a pre-emptive presidential pardon that gives him immunity from prosecution. In the history of Congress, only a couple of mob bosses have invoked the privilege more. “On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer, based upon my rights, under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution,” the Machiavellian career bureaucrat said over and over in the nearly three-hour hearing before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. But Fauci’s silence rendered him a villain more powerfully than his usual sly deceptions. Shameful, too,

The issue of illegal aliens being detained while awaiting their transport out of the country is destined to eventually hit the Supreme Court.Several courts of appeal have split on the issue of whether illegal aliens can be detained during processing out of the country with some saying yes and some saying, no. The Nineth Circuit Court of Appeals weighed in today and also said no, with a rather goofy and odd reason in their opinion. [Court Ruling Here] The 9th CCA doesn’t like the term “illegal alien” so they use the politically correct term, “unadmitted aliens” to describe non-Americans who are in the country illegally.

The courts will decide whether the last-minute, blanket pardon that the autopen gave Anthony Fauci (Doctor Death) allows him to legitimately invoke the Fifth Amendment. Next week, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs will hold a vote on a contempt resolution against him. While the legal complexities unfold, this is self-evident: Fauci is beneath contempt. During his testimony before the same committee today, Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), had the temerity to claim that Dr. Death saved lives. Stevens holds a slim lead over Rogers in a direct matchup, with the Democrat congresswoman drawing nearly 46 percent support to the Michigan Republican’s 45 percent. Another nearly 9 percent of respondents remained undecided. Moreover, the statewide poll of likely voters notes it has a margin of error of four points, meaning Stevens and Rogers are essentially tied in the hypothetical Senate race. “This race is a toss-up,” the Glengariff Group noted in their survey.

Feasibility studies for a high-speed rail project began in 2006. By 2018, the first section was completed and opened, seven years after construction was started. Where is this bullet train? Not in California. It’s in Morocco. California voters approved in 2008 a ballot measure for a “safe, convenient, affordable, and reliable alternative to driving and high gas prices” by a 53%-47% margin. Golden Staters were sold a train that would require a $10 billion bond and cost $33 billion to complete. Within a dozen years it would be ripping up and down the state at 220 mph, ferrying passengers between San Diego and Sacramento.

Good policy, it is said, makes for good politics. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and his Senate GOP colleagues find themselves in a serendipitous moment, having before them a tremendous opportunity to serve the nation’s interests while simultaneously benefiting their party’s narrower political interests. What is the opportunity? Simple — stay in Washington until they pass a budget resolution to make possible the passage of key elements of the SAVE America Act.
